Im of the opinion that AVCR isnt that hard to fit yourself

its the SAFCII thats hard

ide just get both and get both installed at the same time

Why do you say the SAFCII is hard to install knore?

I've got one in the mail and I was intending on doing it myself (installing that is, I'll leave the tuning to the experts)

You've got me all worried now...

avcr is easy to install and tune your self - but its crap.. only single soleniod. Get a HKS or Greddy.

SAFC is easy enough to install, but not tune yourself.

Thanks dAVE.  As I thought...

Benefits of duel solenoid over single solenoid?

Not sure how it works but I know it makes boost come on better. There are many threads about this on the forums. Also price wise, you can get a greddy profec B for 450 new and it has duel solenoid... you just dont get the riced up screen, but the HKS EVC 4 has that .. and alot more classy than apexi.

While we are 1/2 on the topic here, i've got a S-AFCII in the mail coming over and i've read the wiring diagram on the apexi website, it doesnt seem hard to install and i think i could do it myself.

What i wanna know is after i directly install it can i drive the car without it being tuned, like does it have a base map or still use the exisitng ecu's A/F ratio untill its tuned?

If i do this it will save me $$$ on the install and ill leave the tuning for the experts

Thanks

Matt

MJ,

So long as you can install the unit ok and set it up as per the instructions (ie cylinders, tps, afm settings) you will be fine.

The SAFC will be effectively zeroed out and wont make any changes to the air flow signal.

This is exactly what I intend on doing with mine until it goes on the dyno...

NismoGirl:

You wouldn't happen to know if Gavin tunes the SAFCII's would you? Approx price? He uses Dysons dyno doesn't he?

Your gunna have to start compiling a price list for him... j/k

Thanks for that strutto, i shouldnt have any drama's setting it up, but if i do i guess thats what these forums are for hehe.

I'm thinking of getting Gavin to tune mine too....but i suspect he will be pricy as he will have to use someone else's dyno. Whats the name of the workshop that Gavin uses's for the dyno? could be easiest just to goto straight to that place?

Cheers,

Matt

P.S sorry for the hijack

He uses Dysons dyno doesn't he?

I just asked the same question re the dyno... I believe he uses Dyson Rotarys dyno but I could be wrong...

I don't want to bag the workshop but I wouldn't let the guys at Dyson tune mine... Same way I wouldn't let Gavin tune my rotor if I had one... (Not that thats gunna happen)

I've seen some of his (dysons) tunes and haven't been overly impressed...

P.S This is like the biggest hijack I've been in ever... And it doesn't seem to be stopping either... :D

    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
