hi guys just got a few issues and ima get to the point.. i have a r33 s2 stock turbo,r34 smic,full 3" stainless steel exhaust system and stock ecu,boost control, running on 10psi..NOw i can only buy a power fc or upgrade my turbo..SO i went with the power fc......now my issue is how much power will i get from it and is this even possible?....if i dont buy a fmic will the r34 smic be enough? if so how much boost can it handle with the new ecu...

R34 GTT SMIC is good for up to about 200kw atw, at that stage you will be at the stock turbo's limit...

Tunning the PFC might give u some extra kw but not much.

Basically theres nothing wrong using PFC with your current setup, its just that if you are not planning on modding it further (bigger turbo, injectors etc etc, also you need a proper FMIC at that stage), then the PFC is kinda not needed & a piggy back would do & save u some $$$.

EDIT for the boost on stock turbo, most people say the limit should be 12psi. But I will just stick with 10, don't want it to go BANG!

a well setup GTST even with the PFC and stock turbo is amazing

once it is tuned correctly and setup the car is completely different to drive

you should be able to hit 200rwkw with stock turbo and PFC

but i would seriously change to a FMIC, the SMIC will just heatsoak itself when you are going hard at it repeatedly

Spot on although depending on the stock turbo's health i wouldn't be trying to push for 200kws but is achievable like Paul said.

i was thinking of getting a fmic but i dont want any lag and a late turbo response..

FMIC is a must IMO "if" you are considering more mods later (turbo, injectors etc) and you will not notice a large change with response after fitting a FMIC and running a stock turbo.

IMO giving the rarity of genuine PFC's for R32's i would snap it up while you can and look at fuel pump (an ABSOLUTE MUST) FMIC then turbo upgrade when you can afford it. Depending on how it drives now why not leave the stock ecu in there and with the money you would save from tuning the PFC spend on the rest of the set up and do it all at once :cool:

agree FMIC is a must have, i wouldnt even bother trying to get power with the stock SMIC

sure it will make power and work, but youll get heatsoaked in the ass on repeated power runs on the street

if you fit a FMIC and tune the car along with boost and exhaust changes you wont loose any reponse

as part of the complete change, it wont be noticable, the negilible throttle variance is negated once you tune the IGN maps

if you fit the FMIC and change nothing (i did this on my car at some point) then difference is only noticable and thats the throttle to power response time. the time from when you touch the pedal to the time the engine makes power or "responds". i would put it down to an extra maybe 200ms in response time? its noticable, but hardly anything. and like i said, once you do the other stuff, its negated.

theres no late turbo response - just throttle open variance delay (if you can call it that?)

Absolutely agree with Paul. i can tell you from first hand experience its an amazing difference between stock computer and power FC on 10psi with stock turbo. The extra torque and mid range is amazing, really does feel like a different car to drive. Well worth it in my opinion.

Get a FMIC mate, It will make a big difference. You can get 2 options even get a intercooler going to your return stock flow or you can get the intercooler where you cut a hole in the engine bay.

It all comes down to what you want the car for, if your happy with around 200rwkw and the only thing your going to do is a quick run from the lights now and then the setup you have with the pfc and 34 smic is fine, but if your planning track days or prolonged thrashing then a fmic is a must, and if your in vic then a return flow fmic is recommended.

With that said though at 200rwkw you have reached the limit of you smic, injectors, afm, fuel pump and ecu so a bigger turbo will require an update of these parts as well.

Personally i would go the ecu, drive it around till the bug bites for more power then update in this order:

1) fmic

2) fuel pump

3) afm

4) injectors

5) turbo

im in the same boat. Had the 34SMIC and was running between 10-12psi. Remapped ECU. exactly 200kw ATW. But it developed engine ping issues and suffered during the day mainly, 200kw with that intercooler seems the absolute max it could handle... Finally pissed of the r34SMIC and got JJR Return flow front mount. Fixed the ping entirely. The car obviously needed it. Seems to have sorted a few issues.

Thats all well and good that it keeps up but think of it this way, its nearly 20years old. For the sake of $200 id be going a fuel pump over a FMIC cause the last thing you want it to do is crap itself or lean out once you start winding a little more boost into it while tuning :thumbsup:

if the fuel pump fails its not an issue as the engine will just stall

its only an issue if the pump cant keep up

at 190rwkw at 0.80bar (11.6 PSI) my stock pump was leaning out

so i installed a GTR pump and retuned it to 0.85 bar which is 12.3PSI

so it does pay to upgrade the fuel pump

you could use a 50hp fuel pump and still max the injectors, they'll max really early tho as the pressure wont be there to flow anywhere near 370cc

I guess i come from the school of do it once and do it properly, a $200 fmic kit is not doing it properly in my books.
