catch an earlier bus or train

How important is your licence?

(assuming it was by a radar gun) You can contest this in court and have a good chance of winning but it will cost you for $$ for a good lawyer. I believe the standard method is to ask the police for the guidelines of use, a certificate of compliance and a certificate of callibration for the radar gun. I essence you are challenging the accuracy of the gun and the procedures used by the user. (all of which I have been lead to believe the police are reluctant to produce)

There are specialists in this area and their advice should be sought.

Good luck with the first one. The new units must be calibrated every time before they can be used. The only chance you may have is that where the officer was positioned in relation to where you are may have given an inaccurate reading.

if you have a bucket full of cash you can still beat it based on their methods of calibration

i had similar thing police provided a piece of paper saying it was calibrated that day or the day before and i had a specialist tear them apart just a letter from the specialist cost me $800 the whole ordeal went on for 1.5 years and cost me like $1600, but i didn't have to miss a day off work and i was proven innocent which to me was worth it as i too was looking @ loss off license

Yeah sure mate, I can guarentee that no person will ever recieve a fine for breaching the speed limit by 2km/h let alone get branded a hoon for it but why let facts get in the way of a good rant :P

The poster admitted he breached the speed limit by 18km/h, doesnt deny it. Hes not a bad bloke nor is he a criminal, but the fact of the matter is he has breached one of the rules of the road by more than just a trifling amount. It is good to see he is more concerned with accepting responsibility for his mistake and going about trying to get his licence back.

Pepsinator I am off work for a few days sick, I know a lot of this stuff off the top of my head but unfortunately not exact numbers etc. When I get back I will see if I can find out some more details for you re this matter and avenue of appeals and/or what happens when you get your licence back.

the italics mean sarcasm. just so you know.

Self explanatory.....just saw that you realised what i meant....its all good

i cbf'd reading all the post but if you have a job just get ur boss to write a letter saying you need your car to get to and from work and you can usually get is... 3 of my friends have done that and hhave to stay on their p1's till 21(with curfew),20 and 21 lol, but at least you can keep driving

I HAS I HAS !

i got done for 80 in a 50 but they didn't have proof of the speed and did me for "exceeding speed in built up area" which was 3 points , then i got done for no p plates in my dads work car when i went to get dinner, and the cop at the time said the usual shit that "its up to motor reg to decide" , and well 100% of the time they disqualify you.

i got a letter of disqualification in the mail a week after i paid the fine saying id lost my license and that it was a breach of my probationary conditions.

i took it to court and had a letter from my employer and the judge was forgiving and understood what had happened and gave me my licence back

only shit thing is im on 1 point for the next 2.5 years but i don't see it being a problem as i learnt my lesson when i got done for 80 in a 50 and now i dont

speed anywhere no matter what.

Pritty much the same deal for me there mitchamus, got done for doing 80 in a 60.lost the licence and apealed it for work and went to court and pleded my case and got it back with 1 point. Im also the same as you mitch, i dont speed any where for anything. its seccond nature to me now seems i have been doing it for what feels like an eternity.i think its actually made me a worse driver tho. its made me that paranoide ill litrally look down at the spedo every 3 secconds or so.

But what really shits me off is my gf who speeds absolutly everywhere atleast 10 - 20 kmh over and in the 4 months or so we have been together NOT ONCE has she been done by a speed camera or radar.since she has been with me iv drilled it into her that its not on but she still does it,it just doesnt get through no matter what i do. Beleve it or not shes actually the better one out of her friends. One of them is by far the worse driver i have ever seen and im at a loss to how the F*CK she got her licence. once she managed to spin out of control at a right hand corner from a standstill on a dry road and end up in someones front yard. Shes never been done for anything ether. I cant wait for the day they get done and have to go through the same shit.

End rant.

EDIT: Oh and mitch i would be looking into what conditions are on your licence too. i thought after my 2.5 years were up id be moving onto my full licence......until i got a letter in the mail the other week saying that there are changes to P1 and L licence holders about using hands free kits and stuff. Now to my understanding i wasnt on P1 or P2 or anything like that as i got my licence long before that stuff came in and when i lost it and got it back that all happend long before it came into affect too. I tryed ringing motor reg to sort it out but after being on hold for an hour and a half i gave up. My licence runs out soon and if i have to be stuck on P2s for another 6 months ill be severly pissed off!

I'm no expert in these matters, but I would've thought the notice was pretty self explanatory

Jack, it all comes down to getting cuaght at the wrong place in the wrong time.

You always see people doing huge speed runs on various roads at various times of the day and they never get caught, yet another person might be going 10k over the limit and get pinged straight away.

    • This is the territory of the "Stage 1/2/3 Golf GTI/R" or otherwise off the shelf tune with (relative to before) minor mods. It's easier now. Downpipe and Tune and boom, big increases. Stage 1 OEM+ is where it's at. This is where the niche evolved into and it's really easy to see why. It's rare to even NEED to consider changing turbos or going to aftermarket ECU's or building bottom ends for more power. Stage 1-2-3 will get you a LONG WAY. Civic Type R turbo GR Yaris/Corolla Anything with B58 (MKV Supra/x40i) Anything BMW in General Anything Audi in General Any turbo AMG RenaultSport Turbo offerings Korean Elantra N/I30N Ecoboost Mustangs Focus RS? List goes on. I would argue in the future it won't even need to go on... M3P is pretty rapid out of the box...
    • There is a way, but it's not with the same cars. You need to find the same vintage of car, that we had. Realistically, that was an affordable car with aftermarket parts around. So what people need to find is a car that had a decent base in its day, and can be modified. They're looking for a car year make of 2010 to 2015 really... Aus could have done it if Holden didn't fold as V8 commodores were cheap, and if Ford didn't get expensive thanks to COVID, then you could cheaply play with FG Barras. Realistically, those are just a bit heavier, four door skylines. I'm sure the US and UK have similar cars they could find.
    • Haha I do that.. thats when it chirps..The bit point for me is almost non-existent. Otherwise I stall it. But yes, in terms of performance, the clutch is solid af.
    • Greg speaks wisdom. These dirty old Datsuns are only value when they are cheap. When they are not cheap, there is no value. Sounds contradictory, but it's true. We are now 20 years past the hey day of modifying cheap 90s JDM cars for small amounts of money. This is a different world. If you are rich and can afford not to care about what is effectively wasting money on an old Datto shitter, then I have no reason to argue against it. But if you are wanting to experience what we all experienced back in 2005 (and I bought my car last century!) then there is no way to do it.
    • Short answer: No. Medium answer: No, because you still need to conjure the things out of thin air to bolt them to a NA to make it a NA+T. Long Answer: No - The things you need to conjure - meaning a turbo, intercooling, manifolds, exhaust, intake/manifold/piping, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, AFM (?), ECU + Wiring (woo, N/A loom fun) have to come from somewhere. You could have many scavenged these things from an OEM car that someone had upgraded from and use some of these. This will be cost prohibitive now, especially so in the USA. You'd probably pay the same for newer, upgraded components that are better than old OEM stuff from 25-30 years ago. None of these big ticket items are re-usable for the N/A car. Why not buy new and upgrade while you're there? The only real consideration is turbo and fuel sizing and determining whether you want to stay within the bounds of the OEM engine or get into rebuild territory. These limits ARE lower with a N/A motor and especially N/A gearbox at the starting point. And if you're gonna upgrade those then you may as well consider having them built to begin with. Because everyone here knows you're never far from that next engine rebuild once you start making the power you want... The cars you see on the internet and SAU etc have been built over decades. If you're really clued in... you would sell your US car to somebody for what you paid for it. You would then scour AU JDM pages or SAU and buy a car like Dose's on this forum with your powerful American Dollar. This will save you so much money in the long term. Importing it could be tricky. Or it might not because USA. I have long said the only reason 90's Japanese stuff took off was because a) Japanese people had Japanese cars so that is what they used b) Australians could import these cars to Australia with very minimal changes and use them on the road here c) Neither country had well-priced access to US or EU Sports Cars. I don't believe the JDM scene would have taken off in Australia at all if we had EU priced EU BMW M offerings, or more especially the AUS V8 Scene would never have existed if we had the multitude of US cars like Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes at the prices you folks do. After all - Do the math. I would say put a V8 in your R34 and that's the smart way forward. It is. I did it. I know this from my own experience. But at that point there's no reason to simply not buy a C5 or C6? It would be simpler and easier and cheaper and bette-
