I love Jimboomba..grew up there...Went to school in Beauy!

Thinking of moving back out there cause i just got made redundant ;)

I consider Jimboomba the sticks.. lol

I went to Beauy too..

I used to live out Mt Barney way out near flanigans.

Worked at a couple of the Horse Studs out there..

Loved the fact that you could jump on your horse, Moto, car etc and just cruise around anywhere you like..

Oh and the local pub was pretty good too..

I miss the good old days..

Depends on what you mean by the sticks I spose. I consider Jimboomba the sticks

Shut up and GTFO?

Anything outside of a 7k squre of Brisbane, 4000 is the friggin sticks.

Being a Melbexican I do love it more BUT! Although the salaries are more, the living costs are more. I put more money in my pocket living and working in Brisbane than I would down south.

Brisbane will only keep evolving for the better – the 40kph speed limit change in the CBD is the first step towards perhaps a major change in years to come… Think European Cities

You did.....I probably know you then??

There are some pretty decent roads around here eh Ro :D . I've gotten used to the driving now. My sense of a long journey has been warped by working so far away from home lol. I used to travel 1.5 hours to work on the Tweed Coast everyday so now anything under an hour feels like a short drive lol :D

Yeah man there are some more that you might be interested in knowing as well.

Oh damn...small world...I have probably heard of your family as well?

Still have a gokart in the shed I do, needs a new clutch though. I remember planning to put a V-twin on it at one stage. The paddock has tracks still worn in it from 10 years ago.

I has too, still has a fair way to go. It is getting better.

I love Brisbane I'm 25 now and lived roughly 21 years of my life in Brisbane.

This might shock some of you but I grew up until about the age of 13 and had not seen ANY race aside from caucasian. Not that I am racist. I moved away at 18 for uni then back then away lol....

Holidayed in almost every capital city except Darwin and I love Brisbane, mind you Perth feels very similar if you mixed Brisbane with the Gold Coast. Similar mindsets, no one is in a rush, good culture. Perth from above, and on ground, is what Brissy should have been so easy to get around as the entire city is thatched with square highway cross=sections.

I live in Toowoomba now and everytime I goto Brisbane I always get choked by the smog, its pretty bad these days, but the night life and all the action makes it worth it!

I like the northside a lot better than the south even though I've lived on both, race gangs and robberies put me off the southside. Hate the hills of the westside, plus way too many uni bums.

My major problem is the cost of living down there these days, plus all the southerners that move up here and main roads has no idea what they are doing!

Have lived in Brisy and the Gold coast for 5 years.

Must say living on the Gold Coast brings alot of disadvantages such as lack of employment, lack of services such as 24 hr pharmacies, dodgy hospitals, almost non existent public transport and the amount of "Oh look at me" people that live in the area. Born in bred in Syd, I have lived in melb and larger US cities and in comparison you could hardly call Brisbane a city. Some country towns are bigger and more exciting. :ermm: With every servo in Brisbane selling Syd newspapers (telegraph), it shows just how insignificant Brisy is. BTW why are the bogans in Brisy so close to the CBD?, shouldnt they be living in the sticks? ;)

Brisbane has a traffic problem? LMAO, dont think so!. Drive in Syd or Melb for a week that will change your mind. :(

There is also the unexplained phenomena of the timing of events such as the EKKA, it sounds like a drug party. It resembles a royal easter show but in August :whistling: or Riverfire which is boring as bat shit. When I walk through the CBD I see coppers trying to catch jaywalkers which is wrong in any CBD, people and traffic have only one pace.... f*#Kin slow!... that would explain why you get the traffic you so call. There are not many roads you can really enjoy without being hassled, tho MT Nebo is def one of the best.

Raising kids in Brissy well QLD is not a wise decision, I'll be moving down south when the kids are ready for school. QLD education comes second last in the nation. What puts the final nail in the coffin for Brisy is NYE. ;) Experienced it in once up here and was shithouse, f*#k all fireworks and the partying didnt go till dawn. If you want to have a big NYE go south!.

My god.. I think you should wear a NSW State Of Origin jersey and GTFO!!

Indeed they do! I've spent some time driving in Sydney and Melbourne, and although their traffic is heavier it flows much better than in Brisbane. Contrary to the earlier post, traffic here is hideous, especially when you consider that Brisbane has a much smaller population. As far as road surfaces go, ours aren't great but they are improving, slowly! Except for Toowong, it's still atrocious :P

Other than the obligatory whinge about traffic I'm pretty fond of Brisbane. I like the "big country town" feel (though unfortunately town planners saw it that way for a while there too), and with the exception of a few stiflingly humid days we have a great climate. We're close to a lot of nice beaches, close to some nice inland mountains, and if you know where to look there are some nice cruising roads. We have some decent racetracks, though you'll need to travel a bit. There's plenty to do unless you're still in the "zomg must party for days" mindset.

In response to a post above, if you're worried about your kids' education then, as mentioned, simply be selective about the school you send them to. You always have a choice, even if it means a bus/train ride or a longer drive. In a perfect world all schools would be excellent, but they're not, regardless of state. Sydney newspapers are sold here because it's a hub for commercial and financial activity, not for a lack of anything newsworthy on Brisbane's part. I've seen Brisbane newspapers sold in Sydney newsagents too, so what?

But yes, I really like Brisbane. It has its problems but for me, they are far outweighed by the positives.

Lived in syd and bris and dont like either, the people piss me off the most - everyone is so smug and fake why cant we just be normal?!? Brisbane has idiots running the place hence we have such a bad traffic problem for our small population. They build bicycle paths and walkways every where because our pedestrian and cyclist traffic is far worse *note sarcasm*. They got rid of our best inner city public transport system aswell the Trams!!!!! we need a monorail or something above or underground no more buses!

I would love to live in europe, germany mainly it is so organised everything runs like clock work and nearly every girl is hot over there without their head up their own arse....

Dont get me wrong we have the best beaches n stuff here but the people are just.... sigh

I think ur hanging around with the wrong kind of people if you find the people bad...

As for NYE and the nightlife... if you live on inthemix.com you will find not much else going on in sydney ALL the time... if you have a finger on Brisbane's pulse... you'll find the action :)

the nightlife... if you live on inthemix.com you will find not much else going on in sydney ALL the time...

Thats coz ur spending too much time on the net and not getting out enough.

In Brisbane when one night spot turns out to be a dead rubber you dont have many choices. :D

Its back to the sticks for you hick boy :D

Being brissy born and raised, I have a certain affinity to it. I love my home city and there isn't another place on earth that gives me that feeling when I get off a plane, than when I get off here.

Yes, that might be the stifling humidity but it feels like home none-the-less. The only town I'd trade it for is Cairns, flew up there a few weeks ago and was mightly impressed with how well it's going.

I lived in Sydney for a short while and in various places in NZ (which is a damn good place as well), but I won't be taking off my Maroons jersey anytime soon.

Tackling airport drive and the gateway every morning and arvo is the only thing that shits me about it, but it's getting better (be it a bit slow) but we'll get there in the end. I do agree with Alf on one point though, NYE in brisvegas does suck balls, Sydney NYE was utterly insane, loved it and rate it as one of the best NYE of my life, Brissy you can't even get a drink behind a bar without waiting several thousand hours (on NYE).

But on all of his other points, I tend to disagree.

I bought a house south of brissie, as I think long-term it's one of the best places in Oz to live.. FNQ is great too but only if you want to live a more relaxed life. Lived on the Goldcoast for 6 years or so now, and if you don't like lack of culture, never move to the Coast. It's fully of morons! While I like the natural beauty of the coast, the majority of the people there are low lifes which I've come to despise. They also seem to be very selfish, and lazy people who just don't give a shit about anybody else.

I do like the fact you in Brisbane you can afford to live within 15km of the city for much less than Sydney or Melbourne. I would never be able to afford a free-standing house in Melbourne 10km out. Traffic is bareable, although in some areas it's terrible if you hit right in peak hour.

If you want an ourdoor lifestyle nearly 12 months of the year, it's hard to beat Brisbane for that, Melbourne is ok for 3 months of the year, but the rest you really are restrained.

One problem in SEQ there are too many oldies up here, this is why the city is dead during the week at night. Also needs more varieties in bars and clubs though, it's all very bogan, even the places that make out to be classy. It's also very "white", which I think it needs to improve on. Brisbane is starting to become more multicultural I've noticed which I think is a good thing. Brings in many different aspects, and improved restaurants and ideas. Hopefully that continues.

I love brisbane. Not sure why though. I hate the traffic, really hate the public transport, hate the useless politicians that run the place. Love everything else though.

As many have said we got beaches, mountains, driving roads etc all pretty close. Also we have two race tracks now :D.

People are mostly great, just steer clear of the bogans.

I've been to sydney and the lasting impression it left on me was "Dirty", I couldnt live there.

Perth is nice, but insanly boring. It's like the city just shuts down at 5pm.

lol Alf, I used to be a big playboy in Brisbane, and I rove on the internet no matter where I am... 3G is a wonderful thing. If you don't have many choices I say again your finger is missing the pulse.

Predator, if you hit the city you will find lots of young people pub chubs.... come to the valley, Family, Empire, Press Club, Met is ok too, Fringe, now lets not forget the most classy Cloudland.... mind, you do have to be a fan of HOUSE, ELECTRO etc to enjoy these venues =P

The thing I love about the traffic is I can drive quickly in it in Brisbane, no one hestitates they just go... I also always seem to find my way around even if I am randomly lost, I eventually find a main road and away I go...
