Hi,

Can anyone tell me which is the actual protocol used by the V35 in regards to its diagnostic codes?

I have just received a scanner OBD II compliant (including the VPW, PWM, ISO, KWP 2000 and CAN protocols) but when i plugged into my car got a comms error.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cristian

I now there are all sorts of incompatibilities in the ODBII arena .... for example the Blazt USB ODBII device from the USA will look at a V35 ECU and can clear error codes, but cannot display any of the sensor outputs in Nissan Datascan 2 (which is what I want my CarPC to do).

Chris Rogers is the expert in this area - PM him.

well, i have tested 2 separate scanners in obd2 mode and both cannot connect to the v35 althugh one scanner has the ability to select the nissan protocol and can access all error codes for engine, abs, airbag etc.

So now i have 2 handheld scanners but only one really works with the v35 :P

Well i have found my answer. According to the service manual, the v35 uses the SAE J1979 protocol, so if you are looking to find a handheld scanner or a laptop program ensure that they read this protocol.

  • 1 year later...

sorry to bring up an old thread. but i'm looking for a personal scanner. something for the Check engine light. I gathered from this site that the american OBD2 code readers won;t work or erase codes on the v35. so can you guys please direct me to site that i can buy one that will.

I realise you are trying to do this on a budget - launch diagun - basic package. that will access EVERY aspect of that car. kinda handy if you need to punch a new key into the car.

toss that into google. it should net a distro/retailer in your area.

if you have the pin code then yes it will do the keys and the remtoe entry as well. diagnostics is what I bought mine for in the first place. at $3899 though I do not see many lining up for one.

    • Hi Fred, Are you still on here, I'm looking for 4 of these rims?
    • Looking back, I’m pretty sure I over-torqued the magnetic drain plug because I was trying to fully crush the copper washer. In hindsight, I definitely should’ve used a torque wrench. Either way, I ended up switching to a regular drain plug so I don’t have to deal with this kind of issue again. Big thanks to everyone on the forum for your support—I actually talk about you guys to my friends and coworkers
    • Curious to why you're not getting Jesse to do the exhaust, seeing that he has just done 2 GTRs with Aes valves.
    • What extra parts are you thinking you'll need to run e85 compared to e30?
    • I'm not aware of e30 in Australia, but I'm pretty sure e85 is still around. You really want a setup with an ethanol sensor so you can run any mix of ethanol depending on what you can access. Fuel Check NSW app shows 14 site in sydney metro with e85. What are you adding, will you put in bigger turbs too? Apparently the wastegates are pretty small and can't bypass enough as you run more boost.  I'm sticking to 1.3 bar with 98 on the standard turbos with my tune on advice from the tuner, and boost drops significantly in the top end; apparently larger turbos with larger wastegates are needed to get anywhere meaningful from there.
