I reckon I'd be happy to sleep in that spa for the weekend!

Every track day I go to is more expensive than that. Getting to this one will be the expence :P

I guess it's all relative but we pay around $80 for a (1 day) superprint at Oran Park with the NSW Road Racing Club. I think it's $140 for the upcoming day/night sprint there.

The enduro at Oran Park will set us back around $280.

And private practice at Eatern Creek (where the Arsehole Racing Drivers Club rips everyone off) is only $120 a day from memory ($90 for arseholes :P )

Anyway can't wait to drive Phillip Island- whatever it costs!

$175 for PI seems ok? isn't the next SAU OP track day $200 and it's south circuit and not the full GP circuit?

I don't think I've ever paid $80 for a trackday but I would sure like to!!!

Are you coming down hillbilly? Bring the S13!

I'm starting to feel the urge. can't I just buy another car in melbourne like last time to save me driving all that way down there.... lol

actually having just sold the RX7 AND had my property sale went through there should be a few $ spare for some love for the S13. I'm thinking tidy up all the brakes, some cams, some more tuning, oil cooler, some more booooost. get the backlash sorted too as the whine is starting to piss me off.

hmmm....

Geez - we can have days here at Sandown for $250/day no worries. And PI costs twice as much to hire at $17K/day.

Do the maths on how many cars you would need at $80ea to break even just on track rental costs! LOL

ahh I don't want to get bogged down in it...but $380 for 8 sessions of 3 laps (48min) is pretty poor value compared to an SAU track day 8x15min (120min) sessions for $200. Infact $8/min for Phillip Island vs $1.60/min for SAU day....

I've still entered, just saying its pretty steep - supersprints give little track time compared to an open practice day or a race meet.

Private hires/ corporate run track days are a different matter and I appreciate they definitely cost more when insurance, instructors etc etc etc have to be taken into account when setting prices. And the grid sizes at these events usually means you get maximum value for money.

As Duncan says the PI entry cost won't stop us competing but may push this event out of some people's budgets, especially when you consider as a national event it will be attractive to interstaters.

Once you add time off work, transport, food and accomodation (not to mention budget for things going wrong!) to a higher than usual champ round entry fee (for us NSW people at least) it starts to get prohibitive for the grassroots competitors that supert sprints are aiming to attract?

But I'll bring some tape to divide the bed up and he better not cross to my side :bunny:

Hows about I bring black sheets,,,Kel you bring white tape and at half time I'll blow a whistle and you two change sides. :P:P:D

The cost for me is slightly irelevent this time,,,I haven't raced her in so long I actually have a little better budget than I would normally have. I have a new set of slicks sitting here and I might just buy 4 more. Top ten for me would be great!!!.

Does anybody know how much a garage costs?.

Neil.

LAst time I looked it was about $150 but you can fit 2 cars in it length ways. They are lockable and your car would be very safe there overnight.

yeah good point. you do get a shitload more track time at a private day like the SAU days. but I was just saying I think $175 per day is not so bad for a PI super sprint. from memory the EC supersprints are usually around $160-$180 aren't they? and OP GP maybe $140 or $150? it's about right. and like you say they are very poor on a $ per lap basis but still good fun. :)

This years NSW state rounds costs are E/C $165 + 25 for garage,,,O/P G/P $160 + 110 for garage,,,O/P South Day/Nighter $110 + 110 for garage.

Me being the sly bastard,,,E/C $145 + 20 for garage (ARDC member discount),,,O/P garages change for me as to who is at the desk,,,Jeff has charged me $110/$50/nothing. One person who should remain nameless charges me $50/nothing/2 beers. Another just charges $110 like it or lump it.

Yes I know you don't have to get a garage,,,but my lovely wifey insists. I have to say though it's as funny as watching non-garage hirers either roasting/freezing/soaking wet or being blown away by the wind. O/P was so bad once last year,,,shelters were being blown everywhere. Now that can get expensive.

Am I assuming correctly that it's $150 a day?. Somehow I don't think I could talk Duncan into a garage at $150 a day even if we can accomodate 2 cars per garage.

Neil.

Yep, $150 per day.

Neil.

2 weeks ago i was down there for The Marque sports meeting.

Holy crap it was cold, then hot, then wet, then windy , But mostly all 4 at the same time. Porsches looked very comfortable in the garages.

The Mini's managed to get 3 in the garage end to end LMAO

They have increased the paved area behind the garage by 2 times the old size last year. So even if you brought one of those car tents with you its quite civilized.

Reading up on the classes, whats peoples take on the below?

Standard

Tyres must be legal for use on public roads. Tyres marked “Not for Highway use”,

“Racing Use only” are not permitted in this category.

Modified Production

3.2 Only Road Tyres are permitted to be used. Tyre sizes with respect to width

and aspect ratio are free.

so modified cars can run road legal semis??

absolutely :bunny: unfortunately for me I'm only running kumho v70a because that's all i've got handy, not buying a set of new tyres just for this....I'm sure some will though.

    • Sadly I can confirm if you are actually seeking to drift, you will quite easily spin up one wheel. Even if you're going in a straight line. I am not entirely sure of the metrics/terminology here but there's only a certain amount that the helical will actually spin both wheels. I've seen it on video with my own car where two lines of smoke switch over to just one after you really get in to it. Unlike with a clutch diff where you can keep your foot planted until the car regains grip, in my experience with the helical you want to be utilizing traction control allowing LIMITED slip or lifting (partially) when you start to spin up both tyres with a Nissan helical. Which makes them pretty sub optimal for drifting duty. That said... this is probably a helical on numbers alone. Just put the Kazz in
    • Let's just fix the problem by f**king the rest of the gearbox.
    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
