hey everyone, picking my new ceffy up this friday and got a few questions for use!

quick run down of the car

rb20det with the usual mods

stock turbo running stock boost

fmic

3 inch turbo back

pod

bov

ebc

alloy rad

oil catch can

carbon clutch

hsd coilovers

17 inch alloys

body kit ( unknowen brand, think its a monkey warehouse )

boost, oil and water temp gauges..

the car is in good condition other that the front bar being cracked, not sure if it can be fixed or if its easier to just get a new one. body has a few stone chips as you would expect.

engine wise its very good other than it has a boost spike problem. im not sure if the ebc is hooked up wrong or if its somthing else. i know you get spikes with bleed taps but only a few psi but this thing spikes 5psi.....

anybody know why it could be doing this as its the first thing i want to fix before i do anything to the car?

also like most cefiros it was auto but now is a manual and it has that beep beep beep thing when you put it in reverse, what wire do you cut to stop this?

going from the list of mods already done to it what would be the next thing to do? it will be getting a full survice after i pick it up and the injectors cleaned by a racing buddy who works at mike vine turbos.

im not to sure about the carbon clutch as sadly the missus might have to drive it the odd time, what would be a good clutch setup for the street thats easy on the left leg?

fuel pump is stock so was thinking about a wallbro intank with a fuel reg!

how hard and what mods would i need to do to get around the 170-180kw mark?

i live out in the sticks and closest cops are a good half hour drive so dosnt have to be 100% legal as ive got a screamer pipe lined up for it...

Probably your EBC, the factory tubo setup takes around 1000-1500 rpm to get full boost under most acceleration.

The reverse beep is from the time control module? thingy or one of the modules under the collumn, cut that and you get more problems, your main ones being your alarm will be inactive, HICAS will go off its chops, no auto-door locks when you start moving, no interior lights, etc

its one of those things most people cut not realizing what else they take out with it.

Plenty of factory similar RB20 clutches around, if you want balls, keep the hardcore clutch, you can compromise between heavy duty clutch and easy pedal with a bigger cylinder, Nismo make one and you can get it off SlidingPerformance.

Check your tank and give it a good clean before the new pump, obviously, no point getting a flash pump and running a small bit of rust through it.

Search this forum, been covered dozens of times of where mods take you, keep in mind our Cefiro's are identically setup to R32's, so just search for RB20 mods, same when looking for aftermarket gear, dont get shafted because you used a rare name.

Dont go doing too many illegal mods, cops might be a while away, that means the pits are a while away from you if they do actually go out there and slap you around with a yellow.

Boost spike will most likely just be a tuning issue with the boost controller, they are abit fiddly to set up.

No need to get a fuel reg even with an aftermarket fuel pump.

Should be able to see those power figures with a bit of boost and maybe an SAFC to tidy up the tuning. Maybe consider an RB25 turbo?

ive been thinking about a rb25 turbo, whats a safe boost level with them? i know the rb20 ones are only good for about 13-14psi before they start falling apart. also read a thing about the hypertune hi flows, seem like good bang for your buck!

i have a 25 turb on my rb20 r32, goes sweet, i run it at about 12psi everyday and it pulls nicely - good bang for buck

i think at 15pound mate the stock injectors tend to max out,

check out the forced induction section, there is ample info there :)

    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
