^ so Jason, do you know if it's possible for a Police Officer to just put on the yellow sticker that an Emissions Test is required!? :D

As far as I know, yes only the pit inspectors can say that you need to have an IM240 test done.

But you all know what the cops are like.....

Did any of you toss-pipes actually read the articles on the DPI site when this first came up?

It only needs an IM240 test if it meets the criteria, ie, pre-89, aftermarket emissions influencing equipment, ADDED turbo's, etc

So all you guys with stock R33 GTSTs really have nothing to worry about.

As for swapping and swapping back - retard? you'll get another yellow, more wasted time and money!

You're not clever, just fork out some cash, and get the setup you WANT legalized, then you dont need to pass the pits every week.

Also, not every modified car needs an IM240, only Skylines, you guys should know that by now :D

Relax mate, and yes i have read the criteria on the Dept. of Transport website. However even though there is the criteria to abide by, it doesn't mean that the pit inspectors will follow it - refer to my previous post about the guy with the stock-standard XR6-Turbo....let me repeat STOCK-STANDARD.

You all know, you might get lucky with your "lightly modified" skyline over the pits or you might be unlucky, but at the end of the day, we all know it's ultimately up to the inspector you get...

What a raping :D It's ridiculous to think everyone will be able to afford anywhere near what they seem to be pushing through at the moment, I really hope it does get pulled because if a change of exhaust is all it takes to have to go through this experience then a whole lot of cars & people are in trouble...

And Nic, pull your head in & don't make stupid abusive or offensive posts in the future please. Yes you have a point to consider but you're not going the right way about getting it across.

THEN go to the pits

and if the pit inspectors think your car requires an IM240 test THEN you'll be required to do the test

how to fix the problem;

when you get a yellow sticker... change your emission modifications (as well as all the other illegal sh*t you have)... go to pits and pass

swap-over parts to how it was before the yellow, easy!

Pretty much man, as far as I understand it.

I hit the pits last thursday, I think, and I'd fixed my entire list of broken hinges etc. but forgotten one bulb, and had acquired a dodgey tyre placard, and my inspector was actually really good about it, and nearly passed me. But the upshot of it is, that he did spend the entire time teasing me about the IM240 test, but by that point I all i had left was an exhaust. So, once you get your first list it seems to be that you're set from doing it.

I didn't get asked to do it, and my car's pretty hoon-looking, exhaust doesn't clear 35mm (which they only thought to mention on the second inspection, and is what failed it =[) big 18"s, decals, running a few A'PEXi bits of electronics.

I'm still going to play it safe and wind my coilovers up and drive out to brookton in a few weeks for it. I'm hearing good things about going really far out of the way for inspections.

For anybody interested, my first inspector at welshpool was bollocks, and failed to mention that my HKS bov would wualify me for an emmisions test, failed to mention that my car was ridiculously low, and all sorts of things. Now, this may sound good, but he then FAILED my car, and made sure I got picked up next time. Look out for a really unhappy man with no hair and a hat.

My advice is to see if you can get a guy called Geoff, who, albiet still failed me, told me what I needed to do, and printed me out the acts outlining all the rules and gave me a "If you'd just done one more things I could let you go, but if you fix ____ by doing ____ I can and will pass you" sort of run down.

Wasn't trying to be aggressive man, but there's alot of idiots on here that can read a clear statement 5 times and still think that swapping to factory gear for the pits then going back onto the road is the most genius little loophole in this emissions testing crap, really, its not.

How 'stock' are we talking about though?

You're average Skyline... pod, cannon, and PowerFC. Yeah, under the criteria, any of those are meant to land you at Kostecki's front door, realistically, it won't.

Anyway, I was told, by the pit inspector that checked over my car, that the new emissions legislation states that all cars that go to the pits for a yellow sticker, bumper to bumper check are now required to complete and pass an IM240 test. This test was not written on my yellow sticker but I now have to do it to get that yellow off.

From Konsteckis I have been told that modified cars do pass this test. Yes it's expensive, but it is just as expensive to keep pulling gear off your car and replacing it every time you get pulled over by a cop. I agree with Nic A31 as that sounds stupid.

Me personally I am going off info provided to me by people who I believe understand the system. I am also going to be forking over some cash and will be improving my emissions so my mods that I already have will be passed and hopefully legal after that.

That's the good thing about this emissions testing, insane engine builds that would not have a hope in hell of passing previously, can now be licensed if they pass the emissions testing.

Unfortunately, the implementation of the testing hasn't been the best.

Great so I have to let KEC work on my car to pass...wont happen. I'd rather hand in the plates and go racing. Maybe thats the plan.

Kinda sucks how the government is forcing us to use a particular tuner that most in our community don't like.

I certainly wouldn't be a fan of them tuning my cars, I already have trusted tuners that I use.. is there any recourse if Kosteckis blow your engine? considering they weren't your choice of tuner?

It is not getting pulled, and wont be. It is being postponed, until they sort out a better process (No 4wd testing facilities at all for example). Lets face it, we have been getting away without a lot of these emission laws that are enforced in other countries, it was only a matter of time before we caught up and its here to stay.

Simple really...

1) dont do something silly to get pulled over

2) dont have stuff hanging all over your car to give the cops a reason for a sticker

you wont have an issue...

First one is easily done, 2nd one is easier said than done, unless you got a 100% stock car, otherwise a cop can always sticker you if he/she wanted.

Having a fairly stock car works most of the time, ie I went past 2 cop cars on Saturday night at around midnight after work & none of them bother to speed up or do a 360 to pull me over, but I'm just considering myself lucky... no idea how long my luck will hold though... :D

Thats the problem Paul...the application or enforcement of the test by Police and Inspectors isnt really examined. I'm not sure if the test is discretionary or manditory. My problem is the cost and the lack of accredited facilities. There is a relatively high cost for compliance, Replacing aftermarket gear with stock, the dyno pulls plus the cat. Add those numbers to a day off work and no guarentee of passing and it becomes onerous. This will end up breaking alot of enthusiasts.

In reading the Antilag thread...35 pages and growing, it seam the MTA are for a moritorium.

IM240 Emission Testing

As many of you are aware the MTA held an Industry meeting on the 12th August to specifically discuss issues relating to an Information Bulletin distributed by the Department for Planning and Infrastructure on ‘Changes to Emission Testing of Light Vehicles In WA (April 2009)’

The purpose of this member alert is to inform you of progress to date on this subject.

At the meeting which was attended by representatives from the Department of Transport and NATA, several key issues were identified as major concerns to the motor trades in general and more specifically to:

· Performance modification centres;

· Exhaust specialist equipment centres;

· Gas fitters and conversion specialists;

· Aftermarket performance product suppliers;

· Aftermarket exhaust and catalytic converter suppliers;

Some of these issues included:

· The lack of industry consultation prior to the introduction of the bulletin

· The lack of accredited testing facilities and associated costs for testing

· Fitment of aftermarket catalytic converters and exhaust systems

· LPG installations on vehicles that may not have passed a test prior to the fitment

· Confusion within the police Service about changes to the standards

· Lack of provision to test 4WD vehicles for emission testing

Following the meeting it was agreed the MTA would write to the Department for Transport and the Minister for Transport to immediately suspend the introduction of the bulletin on emission testing, for a period of time, to allow further consultation with the Motor Trade Industry on all of the issues raised.

Peter Fitzpatrick the CEO of MTA has both written and met with the Minister for Transport on this issue and there have been several meetings and discussions with senior Departmental and Ministerial staff up to present day.

The Motor Trade Association is strongly supportive of a proper emissions testing regime and is willing to work with the Department in achieving a more practical and sensible way of implementing reforms in this area.

We are confident as a result of the industry meeting and subsequent representations made by the MTA to the Department of Transport and directly to the Minister for Transport, the industry will achieve a sensible outcome.

"I have just returned from a meeting held tonight run by the AAAA. They have been in touch with the Ministers office and the word is that this IM240 testing as it is now, is going to be quashed inside of the next couple of days.

This doesn’t mean that emission testing is cancelled, but the testing and implementing of the test, are going to be postponed, pending the proper consultation with vehicle industry, manufactures, industry bodies like AAAA, MTA, IAME, and the minsters office.

Anyone considering having an IM240 done prior to this announcement should delay or seek advice from the AAAA to save financial loss.

There may well be compensation due to the wrongful implementing of this testing. Hopefully.

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance 
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened. 
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
