Yep, that sort of crazy :)

My brothers R33 GTS-t was making 466rwhp on standard internals back in 2004-2005 when R33's were nto very common at all. Plates were [sL33K GTS], some of you may know him/the car. That motor withstood sooo much punishment and never showed any signs of stress/trouble ever.

i had exactly those mods on my 33 and got 270hp on xspeed dyno, 260hp on c-red dyno.

boost was .9 bar, my turbo went bang after 30K km's.

i don't think you could get 300hp with those mods.

i have since put injectors, 040 and garrett gt30 on the car and got 340hp on c-red dyno.

mine is doing 240 rwhp, stock turbo, ecu, fmic, turbo back exhaust, boost controller..

Alistair ( autoworx ) told me that my next project is ECu, then it will go 270 - 280, then upgrade turbo, 300+ rwhp..

Because the question is "CAN YOU GET 300RWHP WITH STOCK TURBO?"

There is no mention of WA resources only!

Besides i am sure you could get E85 sent over.

Well i bet you "could" put wings on it and a jet engine and it "could" fly

here is the odd thing.. my cuzz has only a pod filter.... and cat back exasut and for some odd reason got 280 at rears on dyno.... so thats pritty much stock if you ask me... anyways my hole thing is around the 300hp mark a little bit less is still the same if ya ask me... anywasy why are there sooo many differnt opinions!!!!!

1/4 mile times are not a good measure of power at all!!!

Theres like way too many factors come into account...

Just by changing tyres / pressure results in lower times...

Dynos are just a BENCHMARK to Measure the cars power output 'not performance'.

Mph who is a huge indicator for telling what sort of power level you are at. Especially for similer car's with power claims. MPH is very important when you start running serious times. I bet all the R33'S with the mod's mentioned in this topic with different HP from dyno's would run very similer MPH, compared to 240hp or 290hp with 50hp difference. 300hp, sure with some good intake temp's and happy dyno's but how long for?. Reality I'm inclined to think not but for a once off to prove your friend wrong smash her on the dyno at 20 pound and let her go haha.

On topic today, my friends R34 GT-T did 245rwhp@Xspeed with fmic, fuel pump, ebc, pod ect.

having a heated discution with a mate.. would like to get your opinion..

on a r33 rb25det

can you get 300rwhp?

i say yes...

full turbo back system

front mount intercooler

intake

aftermarket piggy back ecu

boost controler...

what do you think..... ?

id say yes my rb20 has been build for 400 hp at the whells bigger turbo full tune intercooler etc etc all forged internals and been dynod at 406 hp at rear but detuned to run at 220kw only

youll need fuel pump and injectors to be on the safe side as the RB25's fuel system maxes out at 190kw. 300rwhp is possible on stock turbo but check the condition of the turbo 1st or it will just blow up while tuning. oh and keep boost below 13 psi((or at .9 bar) ceramic turbos hate high boost) and you should be fine. but it all comes down to the tune seeing as how some got more than 400hp out of stock internals these days (myth-RB25s can only handle 400 or less).

LOL ... you say a rb25 can get 300hp with those mods because ure rb20 gets 400hp fully built.

Hey Syfon... ur Friend's car Sleek GTS.. what his Mod list and where is this car now??? :-)

Hey mate,

SL33K GTS was my brother's R33. He brought the car as a stocker in 2003 and then by early 2005 the car had all of the modifications complete.

Off the top of my head the mods were:

  • Garret GT35R externally gated
  • Sard 800cc injectors
  • XF Falcon throttle boddy
  • GReddy copy intake plenum
  • Genuine HKS Exhaust Manifold
  • R32 GTR front mount intercooler
  • Stock RB25DET internals
  • Tomei Metal Head Gasket (compression ratio slightly raised)
  • Standard R33 GTS-t diff
  • Standard R33 GTS-t 5-speed manual box
  • Custom 3.5" turbo-back exhaust with not cat/muffler (was very very very loud and popped the BIGGEST flames)
  • GReddy Profec B-SpecII ebc
  • A'Pexi Power FC
  • Fully adjustable coilovers
  • Starcorp Racing 5spoke chromies - 8.5"F, 9.5"R

I'm sure there are a few things I missed but I'll try chase down the full list of mods/specs

He sold the car in late 2005 early 2006 to a guy in Townsville. To my knowledge, the owner in Townsville has recently sold the car, however he kept the exactly the same as when he brought it (stickers and all), and the motor is still going 4 years later - standard internals with 466rwhp :)

I believe your brother originally imported my 32 for a mate of his.

The rego papers that came with the car when I bought it had the plates down as SL33K GTS so I quizzed him about it ages ago when I saw his username

    • Have you put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on and verified your oil pressure?   Noise being on the block, on exhaust side, how high up the block does it seem to be? It could be the VCT system getting cranky, especially if it's mainly at idle, and when warm, as that'll be your lowest point for oil pressure. Could be showing that oil passages / VCT solenoid are blocking.
    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
