i have searched these forums and couldnt find what im after.

the last week or so ive been having this blackboard scratch/type sound on sold starts, sort of sounds like as if someone is scratching a black board.

it sounds like the enging is struggling abit to rev when i turn it on, and its not my turbo because ive heard this sound on n/a cars too.

it only happens in the mornings and after work.

its a r33 rb25det.

thanks

Obvious guys.

Struggling to start? Noise after it starts?

Your starter motor is on its way out and its weak. The gear is not retracting after it starts the car thats where the noise comes from. Change your starter motor. Do it yourself and save money.

yeah after doing abit more research ive come to the conclusion it is the starter,

a more detailed description od the sound is; it sound like you turn the key in your ignition when the car already is started and it grinds.

gonna get another starter and replace it myself, from what i hear its not the hardest thing to change, ill have a look first though, thanks guys.

REDGTT is on the ball.

def the starter motor not retracting.. well the relay. Happens to me too. Happens to my mate with an R as well. No biggy unless the sound is VERY loud, then you need to pay some attention.

What i do is that I crank it a few times without letting it start.. then start her up and the noise wont happen.. or will but very little. Not a fix but will reduce the noise.

  • 2 weeks later...
mines been doing it for 2 years...still does it and i still dont care.. :O ..as long as it starts

just out of interest how much did a starter motor set you back

i payed 70 bucks for mine, but ive seen them cheaper after i bought mine, second hand that is..

put it on your self and youll save a bit of money there.

also gave me a chance to check my car over for leaks or anything out of the ordinary while the car was over the pit.
