guys i really don't drive my car often, but today when i was driving for the first time in about a week, i gave it a nice boot. I very rarely hit the limiter in it, but today i felt like it was cutting out at for like 0.5 sec @ 5k RPM (like a limiter kicking in) and then continues to go after that to 7k rpm (but it feels like the car is struggling). Then like 10 minutes later it was fine. Then once again, limiting 20min later wtf?

Any ideas wat this could be- Miss fire? i have done a search- spark plugs or coils seems to be the answer?

Does this sound like missfire? not sure wat it is, cause i have never had any problems with the beast (never, only when i put the BOV on for 2 days lol). Wats the difference b/w pining?

Look forward to hearing your input

ok it won't be pinging. pinging will still be igniting the fuel so you still make pretty much full power, it just doesn't do the engine much good. you are right in your research narrowing down to coils or plugs. there are other possibilities, but they are much less likely than a spark issue. the big question is, how old are your current plugs, and what type, gap and heat range are they?

also, what model car do you have? if it is a r32 or s1 r33 gts-t (or gtr) then it could also be the ignitor pack. they can have issues when they get hot.

without taking into account how old your plugs are (since you haven't said), i would be pulling the coils out and inspecting them for signs of arcing. if they appear to be in good condition then grab a set of spark plugs. they should only set you back about $30 for a set of coppers. stick them in and see how it goes.

that is very true i haven't given much information!

Its an R33 turbo (gts-t),series 1. i service it on time always! About 20,000 km ago iput the NGK niridum (i think that is how u spell it lol). They should be good for 80km but i planned on changing them at 40km so i think there is still a bit of life in them! I never spaced them as the guys that i bought them from done it for me. But i never had any issues before, so not sure if it could be the plugs (they have been through a couple of track days and they were perfect).

I might have to have a look the coil pack? would a series 2 coil pack fit or are they different?

Also can anyone shine some light as to wat are the signs of pining?

well last night i decided to drive my car again and to see wats going on, and amazing after i reset the ECU it was running fine. I was really booting around for like 10min constantly on the redline and it was good.

Very weriod ?!

Can someone explain what does a motor that is pining feel like?

You keep dropping the g....

The way you notice bad pinging is the rattling, diesel motor like noise the engine makes, and then later the motor stops because its broken :-)

you'll also see a light flashing its tits off in the right hand upper corner of the dash - its an orange engine silhouette. This light is set to begin flashing at around a knock level of 50-60

BTW pining is something your gf does when she can't have Brad Pitt and has to settle for you.................lol

I thought that was a PowerFC feature.. didn't think stock ecu's displayed any visual alert for knock (pinging).

sounds a little like RnR to me :P

It sounds like spark breaking down if it can struggle past it.

Could be ignitor getting hot or plugs that go onto the coils falling apart.

P.S. NGK copper plugs work perfectly fine

P.P.S. you should always be checking the gap of plugs even if they come "pre-gapped" and if you are having misfiring issues then first step it to gap down to 0.8mm and see if that helps.
