Off topic on that note i noticed alot of your comments in the past about the ps3 having far superior graphics to the xbox 360. I find it odd that you could have a such a strong opinion when you werent even playing in HD 1080p or at least 720p.

I have played it in HD before, just not my own, and it has been sometime since i have last played in HD, hence i cannot remember what kind of visual difference it has, no doubt im biased to Sony more so than Microsoft, but i try and be as open as possible, that said, i don't want this thread to turn into some fan boy rant between consoles as i can appreciate each for what they are, and personally prefer the PS3.

Alright, for those interested,

I took the cable back today and tested it, sure enough the cable didn't work,

I was given another free of charge, took it home, plugged it in, and presto, PS3 picked it up right away, had to reset the Display settings by holding in the 'On' button when turning the system on (for those who didn't know about that)

Now just have to get the lady off the tv so i can play some Fight Night round 4

hey, i had this problem too but it was because i had my audio coming from optical and my video through hdmi and becuase of this it defaults the playstation to component output

Hold down the on button for a good 10 seconds, until the PS3 beeps again.

This will reset the Picture to 560i - then you can change the settings in the display menu.

had the same issue

bought a sony HDMI cable from EB games and my problem was solved.

took apart the old cables head to find that over time. the cheaper $25 cables core just eroded

Monster HDMI cable for the win. Those cheap HDMI cables are shit, motion scenes never look as sharp due to the low speed transfer rate. When you spend big money on a 1080P hi-def TV i don't understand why people let it down with a cheap cable.

HDMI uses checksum as its digital - you do not nee some $150 cable with gold plating, super titanium insulation and any other marketing bullshit etc etc.

Put the same TV (a good quality 50"+ 1080P) side by side with a cheap cable and a decent HDMI cable and you will see a difference. Speaking from experience here, not "marketing bullshit". My parents have a 52" XBR and i have a 52" Sharp, both improved in picture quality from getting a better cable than what we had which was a cheap shit $10 cable. Not saying you need to spend top dollar, but not all those cheap cables are good.

It's either on or off. There is no degredation of the picture thats associated with analog signals like RCA.

I would like to see identical model TV's and everything else the same.

FYI PM-R33 - I have a 55" Samsung Series 9, their flagship. There is no difference

Monster have good promotion and marketing, but it is far from fact.

Over 5-7 meters i can see advantages of better shielded cabling etc if you run past big hi-fi and similar. However large portions of people are 5m or less.

It also makes me laugh you need the "super dooper" cable for 120Hz - The fken TV is putting 120Hz refresh rates out, not the player. What a load of shit.

And for the record, the naked eye can only see a tad over 60 FPS anyway. (you'll see now the latest TV marketing crap is 240Hz Refresh, load of crap)

Fact: I had some cheap no brand shit HDMI cable and while playing blurays on high motion scenes it looked out of focus, blurry if you may. Did this on both TV's.

Fact: Replaced the cheap cable with a Monster one and what do you know, it wasn't blurry any more and stayed in focus.

Take from it what you want, maybe the cables we had were bad, still doesnt change the fact that the monster one was better. There are 100's of different shit cables on the market, all im saying is pay a little bit more and you know its a good cable for a TV that cost 100 times more than the cable in the first place. God you love arguing over the simplest shit Ash, its a $100 cable compared to a $20-$30 cable....Ohhh look out, going to have to get a bank loan for that one.

Lol i aint hurt, i aint cheap to be cut over $100 on a cable for TV's that cost a few thousand dollars each for a home cinema worth even more. If i was worried about spending coin i wouldn't be driving a skyline.

I really didn't want to jump on board with this, but you are now simply contradicting yourself, re-read that statement that i highlighted in bold, then re-read what your initial posts said, initially it was that an expensive cable is better and will deliver better 'quality', now it is that the cheapie cable may have been fine originally but you bought an expensive one just to be sure that it will work.

So it's either, the expensive cable is better because it provides a better quality of image and sound, or it's better because you think that it is less likely to break/get damaged.

I think the general consensus with most things is that you pay more as you expect to get better build quality, but for something that is put under minimal stress at best, for the wider market, a cheap cable will do the job, and an equal level of quality.

Comparing HDMI cables to Turbos is ridiculous, totally different kettle of fish.

Here are just a few of the many results that turn up in google when looking for a comparison between and expensive and a cheap HDMI cable, there is not a lot of support for the big name big price cables to be found.

At any rate, the cheapie cable that i am using now works brilliant, delivers beautiful picture and audio.

Use what you feel works best, but for the record, there is no substantial evidence that i can find that proves an expensive cable to be any better than a cheap one.

Sorry, when i ment it worked originally i ment maybe some time when it was made, it never worked good for me.

But fair enough, i'll agree with what has been said. However in my situation the cheap cable didn't work well and frustrated the hell out of me with having such expensive TV's not looking perfect. Got a good one, problem was fixed Maybe it was interference with another part of the home theatre and the better cable shielded from it better. Who knows.
