HI guys,

Long story but ive got my hands on a GTR r33 1997 model, the car has compliance but is not regested, Im just not 100% sure if it can be yet, because it has had the brakes changed on it too smaller ones (i think GTST ones) and the headlights have been changed to GTST ones as well. also i have not had the engine checked yet but it seems to spool up funny- maybe coils but your opinions may help. The outside of the car has no dints or scratches, ive got a few options:

1: sell the car as is- would be looking at around 20,000.

2: strip it down to sell it for parts

3: or go and get the car looked at by a mechanic and spend some money getting all up to scratch.

Would do you guys think?????

i think if you tried to sell it you wouldnt get $20,000 for it since it doesnt have the gtr headlights or brakes and there might be something wrong with the engine. doesnt make much sence that someone would go to the trouble to fit worse brakes and headlights, and those gtr items arent going to be cheap either.

why would u want to buy a BCNR33 with ECR33 brakes and headlights?

Especially a series 3...those HIDs are hot property...and smaller brakes? why?

It'll cost you a bit to fix it, but it will be worth it.

Still dont understand why those items were changed, however.

    • Last year I got a set of MCA street coilovers for my turbo Forester after my son hitting a concrete gutter/wall on a small bridge causing the whole drivers side suspension to get bent because the rain just made the car slide out I love them, I think they were $2400. even had a hiccup of have the wrong hub configuration (my fault) so got onto MCA and they sent the correct shock ends overnight parts from QLD, for free!  I was very impressed with their customer service and quality of the product
    • They've had some weird failures on their brake actuators. One of them was because they added some kind of lubricant to the factory fill brake fluid that aftermarket brake fluid didn't have so it would affect the seals. Another was just mysterious, probably internal corrosion or something eating away at Prius brake actuators. Parts alone for those are a few thousand USD so not a cheap fix.

    • KYBs are typically twin tube, putting them in the lower tier of desireability. Do you just want to replace worn out ones for the lowest cost? I mean, you wouldn't just replace one end of a car, if the rears are a similar age to the fronts, then they are probably nowhere near what they should be, and likely won't be great against brand new fronts. So, to spend ~$800 on 2nd tier dampers, when you could get a decent set of MCA coilovers for <$4k.....? As to the strut tops. 1st up, the Sparesbox site specifically tells you that they are not correct for an R33. Beyond that, why do you think you need them?
    • That's not very Toyota of the Toyota!
