Should try make it happen as soon as there is a very promising weekend with nice weather will give us a bit of time ot organise it as well :P

Almost blown away by a Harley.............

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I raced a Harley the other day, and after some really hard riding I finally managed to pass the guy. I was riding on one of those really, really, twisting sections of Mountain road with no straight sections to speak of and where most of the curves have warning signs that say '30km/h' .

I knew if I was going to pass one of those monsters with those big-cubic-inch motors, it would have to be a place like this where handling and rider skill are more important than horsepower alone.

I saw the guy up ahead as I exited one of the turns and knew I could catch him, but it wouldn't be easy. I concentrated on my braking and cornering. Three corners later, I was on his tail. Catching him was one thing; passing him would prove to be another.

Two corners later, I pulled up next to him as we sailed down the mountain. I think he was shocked to see me next to him, as I nearly got by him before he could recover. Next corner, same thing. I'd manage to pull up next to him as we started to enter the corners but when we came out he'd get on the throttle and outpower me. His horsepower was almost too much to overcome, but this only made me more determined than ever.

My only hope was to outbrake him. I held off squeezing the lever until the last instant. I kept my nerve while he lost his. In an instant, I was by him. Corner after corner, I could hear the roar of his engine as he struggled to keep up. Three more miles to go before the road straightens out and he would pass me for good.

But now I was in the lead, and he would no longer hold me back. I stretched out my lead and by the time we reached the bottom of the mountain, he was more than a full corner behind. I could no longer see him in my rear-view mirror.

Once the road did straighten out, it seemed like it took miles before he passed me, but it was probably just a few hundred metres. I was no match for that kind of horsepower, but it was done. In the tightest section of road, where bravery and skill count for more than horsepower and deep pockets, I had passed him. Though it was not easy, I had won the race to the bottom of the mountain.

I will always remember that moment. I don't think I've ever pedalled so hard in my life. And some of the credit must go to Raleigh, as well. They really make a great bicycle.

hahahah Raleigh bikes, they where so year 4 ;)

so are you going for a ride on the weekend Ryan or have the police got you on lock down?

Hey Paul

i had the Suzuki RG500 2 Stroker

widow maker i think they called it

had the the worst front brakes ever, was going to do an RGV250 front end swap for the bigger brakes but didnt get around to it

dropped a oil feed line to number 3 cylinder and did some major damage

sold it with my RGV250 to friend and he re-built it

heres a pic

dude yeah the RG500 was / is awesome too. I nearly brought one of those aswell a while back. i'd still be keen to get my hands on one.

I orginally brought the RGV250 to do a 500 conversion on which guys are making pipes and parts to make the conversion pretty simple. That would be a cool set up. easy 1hp for every 1kg. But the GTR came along so i've canned that for the time being. There will be a few hot RG500 motors getting around now to, most of the speedway mini sprint cars that used to run the 500 motor have now switched to "diesels".

I think the RZ was also nick named the widow maker, certainly not many of em around any more, all been crashed. I've high sided and low sided one of mine. Yeah brakes and suspension is shit. One of mine has a FZR1000 swing arm conversion and also an R1 front end.

The other one has an RGV front end.

The yanks shit bricks over the RG and RZ or RD as it was called in Europe as they were never allowed 2 strokes because of emmission laws. There are a few nice ones in the US, brought in as "parts" from Canada and re assembled.

2 bikes blew past me in the tunnel today. So fcuking loud...HURT my ears even with the windows up.

May have been Harleys or Harley clones.

Probably they were doing 120 km/hr or so and weaving in and out of traffic. Impressive speeds for Harleys! :)

if the weather is good i will be doing a ride Wednesday 12 leaving from curtin or friday 11am leaving from curtin.

Let me know if your interested most likely do a river run finishing in freo

have post this on psb too so if u need a shadow u might be in luck lol :D

Ooohh, you went the 600 not the 750? I'm supposedly picking up one soon (as soon as I find one at a decent price, if not it'll be new) but the 750. There are a lot of people on here with bikes.

Went for a ride to halls head last night on the new freeway 75kms there is soooooo many flies my bike was covered in mozzies, dead things and insect blood ;). The normal route i take is only lik 58km so the new freeway failed.
