hey guys,

i gave my car in on monday for some minor body repairs. before handing over the car i recorded my odometer reading and reset my rsm(for speed only)

got the car back today, car has done 2 .6 kms and rsm indicated top speed of 83km/hr.

i called these guys up and asked them if they needed to take the car to another location for work. they said no and denied any of the guys there taking the car out.

what can i do about this?

:P

id like a pm as well mate.

what i usually do if i have to bring my car to the work shop is let the manager or boss know what the current milage is at... have it written down on the quote that they give u.

That way if it is out by a few km, he cant say it wasnt driven, cause he knew what the kms were before taking the keys to the car..

Only got to 80kms? I don't really see what the issue is as long as its all running fine when you got it back.

On that note alot of places road test cars to check everythings ok, guess it depends what you mean by minor body modifications.

But seriously 2.6km? It's not like they went very far, nor very fast, and I doubt you would of noticed if you hadnt set the odometer/rsm.

yes true, I don't notice anything different. But I don't think any one here would like it if their car was driven without the owners convent. Plus they denied ever taking it out of the workshop.

I had an accident a couple of months ago where i got hit by a stupid woman in her camry coz she was on the phone. Took the car to these guys and they didn't align the back properly and they dented the RH fender. They gave a lame excuse saying that it happenned when parking or something. Now I'm starting to think otherwise.

I dunno, they could have red-lined it in 1st for 2.6 km or done a few burnouts.

The imagination boggles. :D

the issue is they took it and drove it then denied it. If they took it to see if its was ok, fair enough, why deny then? besides u dont need to road test for 2.6km for cosmetics... i would of been interested to see what rev range they got to.

IMO Sachee you have every right to be pissed at it. I would be too.

there is not much you can do, what i would say though is that to ring em, let em know your a member of SAUWA explain what it is and let them know that ALOT of people are aware of this instance and will not be willing to do business with them, them may think little of it but if they check the site and see how many users there are, they may get a rude shock as to how many people wont be going to them :D

Can you post what workshop this was? I'm in your neck of the woods and would like to know....even if their 'misdeed' is only being alleged by you (hint, hint).

I think it's more respect for the owners vehicle and the fact it was driven without his permission. 80kmph does not seem like much but that's belting first and hammering the start of second around a commerical block for a few laps, especially if you have 2.6km up your selve and in a modified skyline could see you through someones backyard. This is pretty common with young staff test driving car's at workshops.

I often set my RPM limit to 2,500 and reset the ODI whenever I visit places that I don't use often and have to leave the car. Might be a idea for the future dude.

I'd contact the workshop again in person and speak to the owner.

I see your perspective. You want to ensure there is never going to be any potential 'blow-back' to the site owner.

OTOH has there ever been an Australian website owner prosecuted for defamation?

Seems a bit unfair that one can post positive experiences with a shop but not negative ones?

...and I don't think the OP was talking about opinions but FACTS.

and you still sent your car to them after the 1st incident??

Hi Joe,

You are quite welcome to post negative experiences to another member via the PM feature.

This is it in a nutshell.

You have to be able to trust the workshop to do the right thing by you, and to deny that the vehicle was taken out is a lie. This constitutes mistrust and the workshop responsible should lose business due to their actions.

As stated previously, it may only be 2.6km, but how was it driven in that distance?

+1 for the PM man.

    • It makes you wonder, all these people starting to make a billet replacement head, I wonder if any have thought about trying to adapt tech from newer engines into them. You're already at the full design stage to make a billet head... Why not really spice it up and had some more modern tech into the mix too...
    • Connect all the plumbing up properly. The actual worst part about having the turbo unable to actually build boost, is you can and likely would over soon the turbo if you drove the car (free rev while stationary isnt likely to manage it).   If you do have an air leak as Duncan suggested, you'll have a bad time as the AFM will be saying different to reality.   As you have had the engine out, I'd go over all electrical connections again. If you have a consult cable, plug it in, and see what the ECU thinks is going on. Did you touch the timing belt? If so, double check your timing on the gears is correct AND put a timing light on it while it's idling and see what ignition setting you have. Is the AFM you've installed the one that was in the car previously? You said you replaced seals, what seals exactly? What have you had apart?   From memory when I had my RB25DET with factory throttle, there was two plugs the TPS plug on the loom could go to. One would leave the car running like shit, the other made it work, I think one plug on the TPS area was for something else (an option). It's too many years since I saw that part of the loom to remember properly though.   Is the car idling smooth (as smooth as an RB can)? Does it smell fuelled up?   I have a feeling either timing in timing belt is off, or a sensor isn't right.
    • Theres still skid pan and motokhana days up in QLD at least that are $100 or less. The ones that are ran as "driver training" less so, they're expensive, but just normal skid pan days like SAU ran are still low cost. And thats one of the places I learned to be a lariken, purely by asking for passenger rides, and how people were doing crazy things. Reese gave me plenty of pointers back in the day for skid pan! And yes Duncan, I will never forget your pointers for track work. Especially after Neil got out saying "I am NEVER getting in the car with him again!" 😛
    • 49719 is the cooler loop. Right at the front, LHS of that diagram. Return line from rack (LP side) goes to cooler loop on RHS front of car, then back under engine and returns to bottom of tank. 49717M is feed from tank to pump. HP line out of pump is thick rubber, followed by the hard line that runs down to crossmember and runs in parallel (but opposite flow direction) to the LP return line. Nothing goes anywhere near the firewall or interior of car. The closest they get to that is the connections on the rack.
    • Thanks, plan is to drain all fluid tomorrow and do smoke test to find out the leak.   Appreciate your help and want to understand how the system work. So cooling is achieved by the long loop not any rad? The diagram seems to suggest it connects to somewhere inside the cabin and I thought that is a cooler inside firewall. If you look at the diagram it seems to show it connects to something inside firewall. I tried chasing it but not easy unless I take loads off   i am confident pump is good as fluid goes in and it gets soft( steering) but as soon as I turn engine off , loads of bubble come to surface and overflow. When engine is on , fluid level is below minimum but when off it shoots off and thinking it is sucking air in. I suspect aluminium pipe may have a crack line or whole   smoke test with no fluid should be a good start and if needed will remove the pump   In addition, the one going under the engine bay is high pressure line and one directly connecting from pump to resorvoir is return/ low pressure?   finally I searched and suggestion is to use dexron 2 but that is discontinued so bought dexron 3 as all research suggest it is compatible and shouldn’t cause any issues/ blow seals. I bought two liter of dexron 3 motul atf
