well they sent out an info pack with some paperwork for me to fillout and return if i was to go ahead and file a complaint. they said if my claims were valid and they denied involvement even thought evidence proves otherwise, they would be in breach of some act (cant recall name). as for the pictures, their authenticity needs to be verified. Basically, if i wish to file a complaint, i am to confront the business via writing, if they dont respond or we cant reach an agreement, i can fill out the complaint form they sent out. then they will investigate the case.

What did consumer affairs say about the whole thing? (apart from the piece already mentioned)

Are they going to do anything about it?

But you said you didnt want anything from them. So whats to agree on? What outcome would you like to happen?

Assume the manager says 'ok we drove the car to repco to pick up a part'. Then what?

Tell me where you live.

I'll break into your house without leaving a mark. I'll go through all of your things without leaving a trace. I'll check out your mail, bills and financial statements without leaving a trace. I'll check out your photo albums and put them back in exactly the same place. I'll check out your computer and go through it with a fine tooth comb, then clear the history and shut it down.

Then you can find out somehow that I had done this.

Wouldn't you feel violated?

I didn't break anything. I didn't leave any marks anywhere. I just did something without your permission and knowledge.

Technically in the eyes of the law I can be charged, but according to some here, I should be allowed to get away with it because I did no harm.

The principal of the matter has been lost.

110% perfectly said.

couldnt agree more.

The principal is whats been lost here.

Its MY car not theirs... why the f*ck should they drive it? other then to drive it in the workshop, then to drive out and park it in their parking lot. less then 50 metres. i dont care if they drive it to get some food and never take it over 2500rpm... i will still be pissed at them. Its my car.. my mileage... my fuel. Im not paying them to drive the car... especially when it comes to panel work.

Yes i would feel violated if you went throguh everything i owned.

However that did not happen. A car was driven 2.6km and reach a top speed of 80kph.

I think your comparison is completely the wrong end of the scale.

Seriously, avoiding the workshop at all costs is a bit harsh, especially advertising it on a public forum, thats alot of business a company could potentially lose over what? Nothing.

no it's entirly fair, if they have the arrogance to drive your car without permission or reason and then lie to you about it they deserve to lose business as a result. We all will go to a trusted w/shop rather hen a dodgey one, name and shame em then they will soon learn the way to get good business is to do the job right, be respectful because remember good words spreads aswell so guys post up some good experiences you have had let us know the people you dealt with and where they worked, if they put the hard yards and effort into making it good then let them be rewarded :)

What they did was wrong...

theres nothing that can be said to make what they did right. Pussyfoot or not.

so if nothing can be done too make it right and ya not going to lodge a complaint why carry on like ya got a carrot stuck up ya arse move on get over it life's too short its bugga all in the scheme of life . hell it's not like he stole beer from ya fridge or kicked ya dog

:) but fact remains that the car was driven. it was not supposed to be driven at all apart from moving it into the workshop and parking blah blah like brendan said. under law the workshop is to get permision from the owner of the car to drive it. none of that happened. i completly disagree with you on this brad. there is no justification for using a customer's car for reasons other than diagnosis. (which was not needed in my case as it was just a bit of panel work). from a legal standpoint this incident can be reported as theft. a respectable workshop would not have done what these guys did(and probably still do when a nice car comes in).

i hope this sort of behaviour is not happening at other workshops too........

R dirty 3, the comparisson may be dramatised but the principal of the matter is still the same, let me take your ride for a spin one day, if you dont know then whats the deal right?

Firstly, when you choose a workshop to do work for you, then you obviously trust them with your car.

I do not know you, therefore i would not leave you my car for you to drive it. There have been several members on this forum that i trust with my car and those people have also been given the chance to do laps on the track with my car. Thos members have driven my car further than 2.6km, faster than 80, and have hit the limiter.....Its no big deal....the car was built to do such things.

When a workshop takes your vehicle, they do take responsibility for it.

If it had been hoon lawed then i would be the first to stand behind with support for a thread like this.

If it were damaged, then the shop is responsible for that. It happens...accidents do happen.

If they used the car to drive and pick up some parts then i agree thats a bit of a prick of a thing to do, but i certainly wouldnt have gone to these lengths.

Humour me, can you PM the workshop to me please?

zerotohundred the OP of this topic, wasnt carrying on

He was simply asking what he could do about this.

is said workshop near an 80 zone? is it near a parts store or wheels alignment place within 2.6km there and back? the rear end had to be realigned? if they realigned it any decent mechanic would test drive said vehicle to check that everything feels right. or even run it up on a hoist. its very easy to run a car up to 80kms/h on a hoist. did your rsm record top revs made? the mechanic could have also test driven it around the block before and after they did the work. this is a lot of fuss over nothing

If that had been the case, then why did the workshop deny driving it?

If they were doing the right thing, they would have told the customer on collection that they had just taken it around the block to test the alignment, not flatly deny driving it when s(he) found out that it was driven.

lol i give up trying to prove to people that it is not okay to have ur car driven around by strangers. come to think of it koree, there arnt any 80zones in the area, that i know of anyways. why on earth would they run the car on a hoist up to 80ks for some panel and paint?
