That aside, just saying it's a valid point. It was interesting to see how some people handled fatigue later in the day, which is when more 'incidents' occured.

So, when I say it, I'm being soft, but when you pay someone to tell you, it's a valid point :)

A 5 lap session is hardly going to tax you, but when you string a dozen of them together over a day, it does wear you down, despite how hard youo think you may be. Keeping cool and refreshed certainly makes you more alert and slows down the onset of fatigue.

We find the same in rallies - none of the individual stages are exactly taxing, but when you string together a whole day of them, you end up absolutely knackered. Anything that can help you stay alert in the last few stages (which are often 9pm or later - used to finish after midnight in the good old days) has got to be a good thing.

Hot and sweaty definitely has its place. I like to engage in hot and sweaty action with my navigator after the event - not during it.

I think people should be more aware of what they do and don't eat during the day than worrying about a bit of heat in the car.

Eat the wrong shit, high carb stuff for instance, and watch your concentration ability plummet. And keep your fluids up, not fizzy crap, cold water.....

lol no when you said it was still a valid point but sounded soft, just like when Luke said it. I didn't magically go ZOMG NOW I RUN WITH A/C ON FOREVA lol I just went back to my a/c off and windows down approach, I like wind for some reason. I tend to drive around with the window down all the time too, much to my missis dismay.

Agreed, I had a Powerade and drank water all day, ate well and I felt pretty good.

It wasn't until I was coming home with the car on the trailer that I really started to feel tired but given the weekend I had that's not that unusual

I've been thinking about this all day, still not swayed either way. I can see myself (and the missus) appreciating having the air con when staging etc coming into the warmer weather but also see that it IS weight that can be lost and a tiny bit less for the engine to do, though not much as it's obviously only requiring work when it's engaged.

Very true Ben. I think the lack of water and crap track food contributes lot to how I feel at the end of a day. It's good to make a conscious effort to eat well and drink plenty of water.

Just to get back on topic... it seems nobody has a before and after of actual real world performance differences of removing the A/C but I guess it's such a small gain on its own that it's probably not worth measuring.

Let the frivolity continue :)

Ryan: Yeah I don't drive with her much but I'm intending on training her as a navigator so her weight will be a part of the car in the future.

Dane: Agreed, I try to bring snacks and in some cases lunch from home so I know it's decent plus I stick to water.

But seriously - definitely keep up the fluids. We stick to water - sip it all day.

During an event, I just munch on fruit and nuts, with maybe a bread roll or some crackers thrown in. I'm never hungry, and have to force stuff down, otherwisw I do start to fade. I find if I have anything heavy (cheese, dairy, meat) it makes me feel doughy so I avoid it.

Mind you, once the action is over, I chow down on the biggest fkoff steak burger I can find, and wash it down with several scotches (or beers)

"Go Natural" have a great range of low-gi bars, they last ages, taste good, and aren't overly processed. also covers the gluten in tolerant. I got through timing/passenger at DECA on three of them for the day, the mrs hand bag usually carrys a stash for day events, f**k eating crap food when you have a long drive home... also great for road trips. just a suggestion... I don't see how people can have a maccas brekky and expect to make it through the day.

Dan- I know what you mean about passenger, eventually I will be double entering when i get out there with the mrs so she can have a steer, so she should see what to(or not,) to do from the passenger seat.

On topic- My air con needs gas in the 32. is it worth taking the belt off til i get it gasseD?

Yeah I usually take a protein bar or something with me for a pep me up, as well as some maccas for breakfast... :P

Ben: You're not wrong mate, the protein bars I've been eating are 99c fro Vitamin Me and $4.20 from a servo!! Wowzers

Go Natural stuff is nice, and I usually take a few myself, but my word, forget them at the supermarket and buy them from the servo and be prepared to spend as much on nut bars as fuel! Fark me!!!

haha yeah, 5 for 5 at the supermarket, or 2 for 5 at the servo... bags of nuts are banned in my cars though

sorry to get back on topic... but for interest sake i thought id just post this up.. i removed my a/c in the engine bay last night.. compressor, bracket, bolts, condensor, piping, reciever dryer - 15kgs

hicas valve in engine bay - 5kgs

battery - 10kgs

by moving the battery to the back.. thats 30kg in front of the front wheels.... gone!!.. i picked up my 2 15kg weight plates to feel how heavy 30kg is being able to be held in two hands and its heavy..

next thing im going to try and do is locate the charcoal cannister, power steering resovior and coolant bleeder tank behind the front axle somehow.

back on the new topic at hand.. i find i have difficulty breathing with the a/c on and i harldy ever use it.. its never worked in the 32 and weve survived a summer and a winter without it.. now that its not a daily driver or even weekend warrior, im sure it wont be needed.. i need fresh air.. even if its warm..

I had a friend end-for-end his car at Targa in '06 after a long touring section and wrong food. Big accidents caused by this kind of thing is likely alot more common than we think.

so you're saying the 4 VBs and battered sav I eat at trackday lunch time is a bad thing.... or? it certainly keeps the fluids up and as a bonus many a fast lap time can be had trying to finish a session quickly so I can have a slash.

also helped by slow reaction times for braking points and a small case alcohol induced invincibilty.
