you wouldnt catch me dead in any wrx, sti or not..... when i think of a wrx is for the people that just have no idea about cars, and just here people talkin about "rexxy's bro" and they think there the shit.... than u buy one and gotta spend 10k on the engine to make decent power, and the second u flat shift it the gearbox gose through the floor..... Grab a brand new WRX sti or wateva. and a old r32 gtr, 2009 vs 1989..... put 15grand into both and see who comes out on top.... plus remember you just spent 60k on the wrx and 18k on the gtr

I've had a GT Legacy , a 2002 WRX STI and for last couple of years my GTR33 and in the snow and ice the GTR kicks arse all over the subies, it should be the other way round but it feels the safest in lethal conditions and ridiculously too much fun, Winter time where I am in jappa is 4 months of daily drift action, fun as f#ck.

The GTR all the way for me!!

As for the new WRX's ugly as..been beaten way too hard with the ugly stick but mind you this was at HKS the other day and did look not too shabby!

The latest Evo weighs over 1800 kg so I cant see it being any lighter than a gtr skyline :whistling:

It's a trend in car design.

Evo II = 1,180 - 1,250 Kg

Evo X = 1,420 - 1,600 Kg

I'm guessing the Evo X GSR is closer to the upper range of that spread making it quite a bit heavier than say a 33 GT25T which is criticised for being heavy ironically.

also, while the evo x may be heavier than the evo 9, they are a quicker car around a track. at the bathurst 24 hour the evo x's were doing better than the 9's.

Highly unlikely, Group B was outlawed in 1986.... And the GTR was built to be a Group A car (Which replaced Group B as a racing and rallying formula)

Apologies I thought it was Group B, (rally video games have destroyed my mind). Either way, my point is they were rallied at one stage.

Had two 00 WRXs great car, got a 98 R34GTT and I'm enjoying it, realy can't compare the two the drive is so different,(AWD v RWD) it would be interesting as a point of interest to see these driven stock by people who can actualy drive quickly at the track.

To compare the STI (and be fair) I think you would have to compare it with the same year GTR .

Actually you should compare the STI version w/ say a NISMO 400R since both are tuned up 'in house' version of a factory high performance model.

STI = Nismo 400R

WRX = GTR

GX = GT25T

In relation to your NISMO comparison I have to disagree, several tuning houses take the STI to another level and these may be comparable to the NISMO 400R .

It's hardly relevant to compare specialist production runs unless you do it with a comparable car on the year.

Reality is straight off the production line.

WRX = GTT

STI = GTR

And IMO both of these comparisons favour the Skyline unless you're basing the comparison on the AWD in which case you can't actualy compare WRX and the GTT atall.

I see your point but a GTR is NOT a tuned up GTT or GTS25T...it's very different (drivetrain, engine etc)...a different car basically, whereas an STI IS a tuned up WRX, it's just that lots of STI's were made compared to say NISMO models.

How is a GX comparable to a GTS25T?

Isn't the GX the bottom range of the Imprezas? its just a point A to B transport rather than a sports car?

So its more like just a regular lancer with 4wd?

Nah the bottom of the range Imprezas were cr@ppy FWD versions. There have been AWD versions below the WRX...various models over the years.

Point is it's not fair to compare an STI version with a stock GTR since the former is specially tuned up by the in-house tuning team. It's apples vs oranges.

all the imprezas are now AWD, not just the upper models. you have to go back quite a few years to get a fwd, but that would put you at around the same years as the skylines.

so you would do the comparisons as follows

GX = GT

WRX = GT-T/GTS-t

STI = GTR

i'm suprised at how people ignored the non turbo skylines. if you really wanted to you could say that the very base model impreza is like the rb20 powered skylines, the next model up (RX i think it is) is the rb25 powered, etc. while the STI may have been tuned up, does it have a larger displacement than the base model wrx? yes (in some models). does the gtr have a bigger motor that the gts-t? yes.

also you have to take into account the cost. the wrx probably isn't that much different in cost when new to a gts-t, and i'd say that the gtr probably costs as much, if not more than an sti.

Haha what a bunch of BS being thrown around in this thread. :P Sound like a bunch of school children....

I've driven many Skylines, GT-R's included, and have had a 180SX for 6 years (which is my track car), and love Nissans. I bought an '06 STi a few months ago because it is simply the best value car on the market for the money in my opinion (along with Evo's, just depends which you prefer). Take one for a drive before judging it... I was looking for a Lib tuned by STi until I test drove an '04 STi and had to have one. Their ability in stock form is amazing and will embarass a lot of so called performance cars.

Judge it once you've driven it.

I think alot of people here have driven them phunky...they aren't going to be to everyones taste though. Some people buy Evos, some buy an STi, others buy a Clubsport.
