I guess it depends if your after Drag or Circuit racing. Very different requirements on the tyres.

Good point GTRman1992, this was very much aimed at street use tyres.

I personally use R type tyres for circuit work, they are in a different league for performance (but aslo cost :D ). It would be interesting to see an R type tyres comparison thread.

I haven't heard of them, but the pay for what you get it true. My first set of tyres were NangKang and they were shocking, the rubber went off easy and squirmed on the tread and they were destroyed after around 8000km because the tread blocks had ripped out. Also on the limit they were scary.

My last set of tyres were the Yokihama 539's. I thought they were great, really progressive at and beyond the limit of traction without any nasty characteristics. I also measured 1g cornering with an accelerometer around the big round about at the end of Centenary highway and Ipswich Rd.

I have these tyres aswell (Yoko A539 235/45 R17) and have also found them to be a very good street tyre. Good all round performance wet or dry, give great confidence in all conditions. Have also use them at willowbank and had reasonable 60ft time of about 2.1 to 2.2 and they didn't perform to bad at Q.R either, although it did wear them down at record speed!

Had Federals before this (they came with the car) and in the dry they were not too bad, but in the wet they were terrible.

goodyear f1's are absolutely crap once they heat up after a bit of braking or two... absolutely no grip whatsoever... in the wet though they are ok, but i've ahd better experinces driving with the falkens and dunlops mentioned in the review.
