i want to upgrade from my stock turbo, and my budget wont alow me to go all out at this point in time, so im thinking of hiflowing the stock rb20 turbo. i was thinking of throwing on a 33 turbo, but i think a hi flow 32 turbo would be more fun. anyone running a hiflow 32 turbo with any advice/ dyno graphs? cheers adam

hiflowing will set you back $1500~?

You can pick up a HKS2530 turbo for that price which will make 230kw atw w/ supporting mods.

The hiflow rb20 turbo would probably just hit 200kw atw i reckon

doesnt hypergear do rb20 hi flows for around $800?

would there be much difference in power/ response between hiflow 32 and stock s2 33 turb?

ah $800 ey not bad. Although a rb25 turbo sells for around $200~

for $800 you can import a hks2530 from japan

When i was looking back at getting a hiflow rb20 (at one point I had one but didnt fit on car) I was told it could make 210kw atw, whereas a rb25 turbo on a rb20 would make around 180-190kw but I couldnt find any evidence to back up the rb20 hiflow results.

I guess ask hypergear themselves how much power it can make and if its larger than a rb25 or is it smaller?

Let us know what you decide on.

$800 is bush bearing, not ball bearing.

Ball would be around $1500.

RB20's benefit the most from decent turbos - So if you are really dead set... spend as much there as possible, get a HKS2530 if you want the best suited

thats what im trying to find out. there is plenty of dyno results on the rb20 upgrade sticky about rb25 turb, but almost nothing on rb20 hiflow. i know it will be a few hundred $$ cheaper to get a 33 turb, but it will be a second hand turbo, quite possibly ready to f**k out on me. im not really after any specific number of rwkw, just a nice basic upgrade. i would imagine tho that 180-190 would be a realistic target, but a good tune is more important to me. i will let you know rekin. cheers adam

are 2530's BB? what hp are they rated to? are they a direct bolt-on to rb20 manifold? thanks nismoid

220-240 rwkw seems to be about the ball park for one, depends on supporting mods tho. Will bolt on to the RB manifold so long its a T3 flanged one.

personally i'd go a HKS GTRS over a 2530 but they are a little more exxy again

gtrs would be great, but the car is 17 years old. i dont want a track beast, i dont want some wank-off dyno number, ive spent the money on supporting mods, now i want a very basic turb upgrade.

The hks2530 is ball bearing, not sure on power rating. Will direct bolt on manifold, dump pipe another story...

HKS2530 came out in 2 models. Series 1 and Series 2.

Series 1;

- Has a unique flange and needs the matching HKS cast dump pipe to be able to fit onto car

- Has more fins on wheel

- No split between wheel/wasteage

Series 2;

- Has a T3 flange which direct bolts to rb20 dump pipe

- Has 9 fins on wheel which has been redesigned to be more responsive

- Has a split between wheel and wastegate as opposed to the series 1 hks2530

how much does the 2530 go for brand new, compared to the GTRS.

is the GTRS also a direct bolt on like the 2530?

thanks.

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.

    • Welcome Gabriel. At least your car has a glorious RB and not the shitty CA18. As MBS206 mentioned all the good bits can be added later. Two doors or four?
    • And half of them have been converted to turbos.
