hey guys just recently got my hands on a r33 gtst, im new to the whole turbo scene and wanna sort some stuff out to be sure im not doing damage to my car in the mean time,

firstly, my car has a electronic boost controller which has 2 settings, lo and hi. the boost controller reads in a %, does this mean its calculated from a % of the stock boost? and if so what is the stock boost a r33 gtst, ive heard its 8 psi. when saying this i mean if i set my boost controller to 20% for my lo setting this would mean id be running, 8 psi + (20% of 8 = 1.6) so my total psi would be 9.6. Also wat would be a good safe lo and hi setting, lo for everyday use and hi for an occasional use, i was thinkin 8 for lo and 12 for hi?

also the car came with a after market air intake, Ive been told to remove it and replace it with a stock air box because they suck in to much hot air and increase work for my cooler but ive also been told thats not true and to leave it.

sorry for any stupid questions just wanna clear things up so many people telling me different things.

thanks

ok thanks mate so theres no way to set it to i can see the actual psi on the boost controller im currently using a PRofec B-spec II, if not is my best bet to just get somone to fiddle with it while driving it and keep a eye on boost guage?

get a boost tap instead

downgrading is always the best way is it?

you can set it yourself if you can watch boost while driving (depends where your controller/gauge is) but if not get a passenger to help.

as for setting the boost you want, have a read of this

basically increase the percentage til you reach the boost you want then play around with the gain and set gain to bring it on boost harder/softer. if it spikes back off the gain

Your best bet is to use google and find a manual for your boost controller which should explain what everything does, if you cant find one (or there all in jap) search this and other forums, will be a tutorial some where explaining what everything does.

If you have a pod that is not shielded from the under bonnet heat then you will just be sucking in the hot air from under the bonnet, airbox's have been proven over and over again to be able to flow enough for 250rwkw (some claim even more) with a good panel filter, if your in vic you will get defected for having a pod and a front mount so your best off going back to an airbox.

Also in vic that hard pipe its self is another defect, you can only have 1 intake mod, if you have a pod, intake pipe and front mount intercooler then you have 2 defects there already, there is a thread in the tutorial section showing you how to make it so the rubber intake pipe does not suck closed.
