must be fckn good. I'm used to mine and its hard to imagine what the VCAM must be like. I've resisted the temptation to tune mine hard for big power on the top end but the torque as it is now is amazing. I can't wait for you to take me for a drive in yours. I may end up pulling the add of carsales if I do. Maybe I am better off not going in yours.

FYI, at the power you have now, a 35 will be dust. I've rolled on Snowy with his extra 60 at all fours and his with the extra power just pulled ahead, marginally. Your has more power than mine and a stock 35 has heaps less than Snowies did. You'll own them no problemo.

WOW Matt the car looks absoloutly stunning in those pics. I wouldnt be to concerned about the power mate as I am sure there is plenty more in yours with the tune finalized. I pulled and easy 30 or so extra AWKW on top of the dyno sheet in my build thread with the map trimmed up and an extra 1000RPM. In saying that the 2860-5's are a good thing for the price but I have no doubt there is extra to be had with the 2530's a lot of people think they are the same but the HKS turbos allways make more power and are definatlet not the same as the garrets so if you are considering a turbo upgrade i would highly recomend the 2530's but my advice would be to just enjoy what you have mate and get it out to the track. Once you get to the track i am sure the bug will bite. Once again mate stunning car.

Those that have run the same turbos on the same engine confirm that the -5 is more responsive and much better on the throttle response (supposd transient response of the turbo) So i have no doubt te 2530 may make more power, but it seems they will not provide the same response either...so its horse for courses...lol as is always the case with silly Dastuns :P

Mate I know a few people that would diagree on that point Roy. From my own experiance there is no advantage in throttle response between the two and the HKS turbos definatley do make more power. Not sure if you are refering to the single turbos on RB20's as the single turbo version of the -5's has a different rear housing than the twin version so this may change things slightly but everyone that i know that has used both turbos on RB26's all rate the HKS tubos over the garrets.

Maybe Matt will go down the 2530 route and can give a definitive answer.

LOL, this in the internet so usual caveats apply :/ If this was a finanace website i would say something like "do your own reearch :) "

SO I am talking out my ass as most know, but i think you will find why he has the -5s in the first instance is that the engine builder/tuner has had more success with the -5s then the 2530s. There are a few in the Vic club that have gone from 2530s to -5s, some because they wanted to go tarmac rallying, others because it was seen as an upgrade...though they do concede that the -5w make less power, in Vic anyway there is a trend to use the -5 as they are better for track work. (on 2.6Ls anyway)

So, take that with a grain of salt as the above is just an obersvation, and perhaps i am reading too much into the fact that this build uses -5s in the first instance. After spending all that cash on 2.8L, V-Cam, brakes etc etc i would be surprised if it wasnt a concious decision to use the -5s.

Sexy ass Car man insane build, i was at race pace a month or 2 or ago to get my car tuned and walked past this beast, if u think it looks good in the pix..you should see it close up. Got butterflies in my tummy!

Job Well Done! :/

Thank you all again for feedback!

The photos really show off the lines of the R34 GTR well!

Sorry Roy and Dazmo, I did not mean to incite an argument on selection of turbos - HKS 2530s vs Garrett -5s. Roy is correct in saying that Vics have some favoritism towards the -5s. The choice I made was NOT based on cost, but rather on Beno's advice. We pondered over choice of twin turbos setup - Tomei Arms B7660; HKS GTRS; 2530s; Garrett -5s and various Racepace spec turbos. In the end, Beno says he has tested them all and in his opinion, the off the shelf Garretts -5s were the way to proceed. I am sure he has his reasons and I did not persist with questioning him in detail.

That's the thing with extensive rebuilds, especially when one has limited knowledge and minimal expertise in motor mechanics, automotive engineering etc. (like myself), you just have to TRUST your tuner wholeheartedly and have faith that what the tune recommends will deliver.

See you Vic members at the Show n' Shine! I am looking forward to it.

Cheers

Matt

I have just finished reading this thread, congrats on a beautiful build!

I feel the need to embark on a long and expensive journey now curse you...... A stock R35 has nothing on the heart and soul of your car.

As Eric Bana says in his 'Love the Beast' documentary; his car (in this context, my build thread) is like 'a camp fire', where his mates (our forum members) would gather round and derive enjoyment and comradery.

Everyday I look forward to reading new replies. I guess this 'camp fire', metaphorically speaking, is the heart and soul of the build.

Thank you all for the congratulatory comments, its like having a new baby in the family!

To gain respect from a R35 owner certainly means a lot to me!

Hi Az,

It must have been another car with those gold TE37s. I did consider getting some gold mags at one stage, but in the end decided to stick with black.

Cheers

Matt
