Lack of Skyline for sale lately

I brought my R33 about 3 months ago now, at that time there were so many to choose from, it was great.

Recently while helping a friend to look for one, i noticed that the number has more than halved... Im guessing theres a hold on imports at the moment untill the new year or??..

Im planning on buying a late model series 2 sometime in the next 6 months, does anyone know when/if there will be a good influx of our favourite car?>

Well ill be selling my series one in a few months probably.. things can obviously change b4 then

but im looking to buy a series 2 96+ manual, basically dead stock, With preferably less than 60,000km on it

will pay upto $25K

Its going to be my project car

can anyone tell me the real differances between a series one R33 and a series two R33 Skyline?? Im looking at buying one next year.. but I dont know the real differences

i dont think they'll ever return to the good ole days for a few reasons...

1. increased insurance premiums for high perf. imports

2. greater choice of locally delivered cars

3. slump in economic climate

4. tighter import regulations

that said, there a few good signs that they may improve....

1. worsening yen, increasing aussie dollar value

2. growth in import performance car scene

3. greater choice of jdm cars

4. affordability of r34 and r32 gtr's.

of course, im not a speculator :)

ok maybe we missed the point... i mean in the specs of the car. Diff in engine (if any), interior, features etc etc... Sorry if it came across wrong?

theres a plethora of information regarding difference between series1 and 2 r33's, just have to use the search button dude.

OK, I will help, as I have a Series 2, or had one till Tuesday as it was sold for $25,000.

External Differences.

S2 has different bonnet, front bar, rear spoiler front quarters (more squarer), boot lip featuring skyline logo are color coded.

Internal Differences.

S2 has dual airbags, some have ABS, different trim inside, mostly the same as S1 just those cosmetic differences. Different warning lights on dash as well. Also features 6 x 9 speaker covers on rear shelf, but still a round 6" speaker within, just a bigger looking cover.

I sold my S2 with 63,000 km, and some nice mods for $25k. Spewing because I needed the money and had to sell now. Had a been a bit financially better off, I'd sell it in March/April, when prices keep rising and imports dry up.

Also, you wont see a flood ever again, thats what RAWS was brought in to prevent. On the LVI scheme, only a few thousand vehicles should come into Australia. Last year alone, over 20,000 vehicles came through to Australia, prompting investigation and a system overhaul.

Plus local second hand sales fell, as young people and old, prefered to spend 10-30k on a range of low mile, good quality, high performance imports ranging from silvias, 180's, Skylines, etc.

Why would you buy a second hand commodore?? thats the whole point, they wanted to protect the local industry.

So buy a skyline or import whilst you can, because it will get harder and harder, and before long, the only way to get one will be to privately import directly from Japan for yourself.

Well a mate and i went car hunting and we could only find a "few" good 93 for around the 20 to 23K mark. (dealer)

If you want a good stock 95+ model expect to pay over 25k now.... this is due to SEVS

there was a total of 10 (r33) Skylines we looked at and we went to 7 dealers. the most expensive R33 was over 33K and it was stock with low k's

I just sold mine. I knew they would start going up. I bet they'd go allot higher too.

SOmeone said R34's cant be complied anymore? Is that true?

And also, when the car turns 15yo, is it true you dont need to comply it? Does that mean you simply register it and drive it?

I had a quick look around at the local import yards yesterday as I had a day off due to the weather. There really wasn't much on offer. I bought mine over two year ago now (94 R33) for $23K which I though in hindsight was a bit much, but when looking around yesterday it looked like a good price. I saw a few with $25k+ on them that were very rough. Obvious accident damage, missing nearly all the boot trim, just very ordinary condition in general. I would hate to be in the market at the moment in the Brisbane area. I should be selling mine around March/April, should be interesting.

      I think, given the usage model described in the OP, I'd never ever experience the wonders of the 400kW upgrade. What I really need is boost from 2000rpm and probably no more than 260-270rwkW. But I suspect that the highflow is not actually the turbo for that purpose, so I may in fact need to get a G25 or 30 or something right sized and very spooly. We shall see after it is tuned. I've had to back the boost and boost ramp off to stop the thing from pinging since the highflow went on, so I've been almost living the NA life for 9 months now! Injectors are recently in hand. AFM is in hand. Dyno is fixed. Just need to clear a queue of f**king Supras out of the way (and probably fit my new gearbox). So....some time this year? Lol.

      For what I gather is a Sunday/summer car....braided is fine. You're not going to be left without a vehicle and you have plenty of time for inspection/maintenance. Oof. I wouldn't use them that way. They can probably handle the temperature** but the internal corrugations means that their flow characteristics are a bit shit. Lots of extra friction and pressure loss. Makes them flow like the next pipe size down. ** They are stainless, and the stainless can usually be at least something like 304L, which is pretty good at higher temperatures (unlike 316L, which I would use for a wrt/corrosive environment, but not a particularly hot environment). But the welding needs to be top notch. And even then, because you usually need at least one cone-seat end on them (because you can twist the hose and do up both ends at the same time unless one of them is a union) they can be prone to coming loose with heat cycles.

      I don't have the OEM oil feed lines though and the turbo-wraparound line is torn, only has water. My plan is to get replacements for these and just connect a braided line to there. And make sure it's leak free. Hoses like these are also sometimes used to connect external wastegates, so for an EGR I think you're good using them.

      Alright I understand. The most likely case is probably gonna be that I just keep the OEM unit in the car as long as it works.
