Toyo Trampios R1R - Hybrid RSpec/Street tyre

folks,

just a quick thumbs up for the aforementioned tyre. i've had them on the vehicle for about 5,000km's with 2 trackdays and they are holding up extremely well, i predict them getting to 15,000km's without any drama's. I have 17inch all round, 255/40 on the rear, 235/45 on the front. Suspension setup helps alot though, i have Whiteline swaybars, camber & castor kits aswell as a rear diff brace.

In the Wet:

fantastic - you can easily light up the rear's but i put that down to a function of high powered rear wheel drive rather than lack of grip. Put it into a corner and it turns without understeer, maybe a touch of oversteer. With traction control on, its like driving a AWD - it has that much grip. In heavy rain i have never experienced aqua planing, water just washes off them...

In the dry:

sublime - grip when you need it without squeel or road noise! i am absolutely dumbfounded by the amount of road noise these tyres produce - practically none! for its soft compound nature, the road noise of these tyres are amazing! tyre wear is also impressing me especially after 2 trackdays and 5,000km's.

On the track:

utopia - im sure an Rspec tyre will have alot more grip but for the money i paid you just can't go wrong. just after the suspension was installed i had the tyres put on aswell. on the first trip down the car was terrible, i was understeering all over the place. dropped the tyre pressures on the front and it pulled it back in a little but it still had excessive understeer. on my return trip i tweaked the rear sway bar to its hardest settings and played with tyre pressures till i had the car almost the way i want it. it still has some understeer but the its more nuetral than anything. thumbs up.

they come highly recommended and i will definately be getting them again pending its tyre wear...as i said i've only ran them for 5,000km's i'll have to report back how much i actually get out of them - perhaps in a year or so then i guess

Yep - concur fully!

I had Trampios on my car when I bought it - everything you say.

I didn't replace them because they wore too quickly on the inside and outside, but this turned out to be worn bushes on the upper control arms. I went for Firestones instead and while I don't have any complaints about them either, I seem to remember that the Toyo's gave noticably better grip and especially feedback.

Hornibrook Motorsport sells them. He was handing out flyers last time out at Queensland Raceway. His business is pretty new so he would probably do you a good deal. I am going to give him a call when I next need tyres, he speciality is R-spec tyres so he seems to know his stuff. He is a mad keen motorkana man too so he speaks from experience. Unit 1, 5 Basalt St Geebung. 07 38651072. Let us know how you get along, like I said haven't bought anything off him yet, haven't needed to, but he seemed good.

buzz, great to see someone else using them, you mentioned that you bought the car with them on, do you have a rough estimate as to how many km's you put on them before they had to be replaced and how much tread, % wise, was on them when you bought the car?

knore, unsure of availability in brisbane, i would say goto your local and see if they can order them in at worst case? price was $300 for fronts, $350 for rears - they'll usually help you out on installation costs if you buy the whole set ...

Any ideas why Toyo's australiab web site says they are only avaliable in a 215/45 17" or a 205/50 16" ? Are you sure you got a 255 in a R1R and not the RA1? I rang a toyo dealer and they say only RA1's are in 255/40 17"

Ok I rang stuckey tyres and they say they have a 255/40 17" in R1R's. The Toyo web site must be old. The price was $519 each! where did you get yours from? Cause if I could get $350 for 255/40 17" I would buy them now.

Yeah tell me about it... I've been trying to get something going for about two months thou.

Firstly the budget simply doesn't stretch to $520 a tyre. Everywhere I rang for the Toyo's said 500 - 520. The Bridgestone RE55 are not going to be in for at least another fortnight. (Have been calling the guy for months to keep checkin') The Falken's are in shortage due to a fire in Japan or some shit like that. No one's got any of them!!

You got any other suggestions for me?

Scotsman, there is a place here in Adelaide that does RE55S 235/45/17 for around 350 each fitted, Not sure about 255/40/17. If I go to R rubber on the rear again, I will be going 235 in the RE55S, as they seem to be damn near the same width as the 255/40/17. They are wider than the RE540 in the same size anyways.

if you like I can get his number and he can send some over. They told me they send them over pretty regularly.

how wide are the 235 steve? And how are they doin on ur car. I was thinkin gettin some on the rear aswell, but i cant bring myself to go there after they have stuffed me around before.

Yep, that's Kym at Magill.

The inside of the tyres arent holding up so well with only 2 deg camber - but the rest is good - excellent grip and great handling. Heaps of tread on the outside, so it looks ok:p

Havent measured them exactly - but they sit wide on the 8" rim up front, wider than the rim slightly - lucky it has such a stiff sidewall. I might take to em with a tape measure tonight:)

Im after a soft compound tyre that really GRIPS in the dry

I was leaning towards Falken RT215s, i know u havent used these, but how do u think they'd compare?

They are both about same price, from looking at the grip, the toyos are semi-slicks yes?
