Erm, ylwgtr2, the GT500 GT-Rs have run a VQ30DETT for a couple of years now...

Just like the GT500 Supras run V8s (a stroked 5.3L 3UZ-FE Lexus mill), as does the HKS Mercedes CLK (a Merc 5.0L).

The GT300 350Z uses an NA VQ35 and revs out to 850rpm (or near there)

Oh, and the Monaro might make 600hp from 427ci, but it's redline is down near 5-6000rpm so it's not spinning like the other cars in the class (Ferrari, Porsche et al)

If you put JGTC up against Nations Cup, there's no way the Aussies would win considering the level of modification the Japs are allowed. Although, if someone was to bring in a Ferrari 575GTC, Chev Corvette C5-R or Lamborghini Murcielargo R-GT it could be a different story.

U can make a pushrod 7 litre engine rev more than 6000rpm, if it did rev like the ferraris then it would be scrap metal after a few laps.

I actually don't mind my V8....4 cams, 32 valves, 6 bolt mains and 6500 redline.

Actually a couple of other manufacturers have been interested in V8SC and were willing to build approx 4 litre 4 cam in one of their 4 door variants. Has all gone quiet as the established brands wanted them heavily limited, given the technological advantage and regardless of the 20% less capacity

sigh, the monaro 427 is completely legitimate. It just has a stroked and bored stock engine, it is not the supercar that holden were planning on making, just a regular monaro with a massiver engine in it. Oddly enough the only thing in that car that is from a monaro is the shell. The race was clearly in favour of the monaros though, the rx7s had to run less than stock boost yet the monaros were able to increase their engine displacement to 7 ltres... bs fair competition

The 427 is a Big Block V8, not even close to an LS1, it has a Hollinger 6 speed sequential gearbox, the diff is a Ford 9 inch, the body with roll cage was built by Dencar, the brakes are etc etc There is very little 'Olden in them. Plus the 3 were built by Gary Rogers Motorsport not HRT.

If you want to get into V8dinosaurs, there is more "Ford" in a Commondoor than there is "Holden". The diff is a Ford 9 inch, the gearbox is a H pattern Hollinger 6 speed originally in a Ford Top Loader case, the front suspension is double wishbone (not struts) so they have the same adjustablility as a Ford, the engine has equally spaced inlet ports (copying a Ford) whereas Chevies are siamesed, the rear axle is live (not independant) which Commondoors haven't had for years, the chassis aren't even built by Holden, etc etc.

Someone said the GTR in the JGTC was more Nissan than a V8 Commondoor is Holden, well I agree. At least the GTR has a Nissan engine, the Commondoor has a Chevy with a copy of a Ford cylinder head on it.

A small block is defined by the bore spacing. The LS1's bore spacing is that of a small block so therefore it is a small block. It uses a motorsport block which has thicker walls (anyone remember the thick wall Group A RB26 block)

I guess GTR700 really sucks because of all the non production and modified parts on it.

The RX7s run lower boost to compete with WRXs, Evos and HSV GTSs. They are not in the same class as the Monaro...

well, not really, if you want a car built from the ground up to race just grab a formula car, V, ford, f3 etc etc.

Production cars have a couple of advantages tho, available base model, parts, 2 seats to scare the crap out of passengers, and ability to keep costs low

so true, when the cheating monaro won bathurst the holden sales pitch was monaro wins game over, trying to say they can beat porsche,lambo and ferrari.

When the reality is that any production monaro would get its ass kicked by a porsche,;ambo or ferrari in every respect!!!

Does anyone really think that though... Is it just a bogan stereotype?

I certainly don't think the taxi that drops my drunken carcass home on after a Friday night has anything to do with the machines nudging 300km/h down Conrod Straight.

What about Supertourers, did people like them? I mean they were pure racing cars, billet suspension arms mounted about 15cm from the original point, tubbed more than any drag car you have ever seen, sequential gearboxes and funky diffs, 19" wheels back when 18" was still considered massive... They really had nothing to do with the cars they were based on...

Supertouring wasn't my favourite racing.

And Duncan, I can't fit my bargearse comfortably in a GTR34 seat let alone a formula anymore.......and you race....so you know that inexpensive is a relative term...especially with no sponsorship.

I found an GTR34 a bit squeezy too... Not good... Too much good living.

If only they would get on and make an R35 GT-R so we can have a proper argument when PROCAR hobbles it to let the Monaro win :)

I enjoy the V8 Supercar series, but I would prefer some variety of vehicles in a highly tuned state. I hear that Toyota were considering entering this competition. Probably some way off yet if it ever happens.

I think that the Holden 427 should never have been able to race in the Bathurst 24hr. Who is going to beat that car? Not one of those things has been on sale to the public. I sure the government were involved somewhere along the lines of that decision.
