Hey guys Im having some troubles trying to get my car running,

I have an rb25/30 in my series 1 r33 gtst. The ecu has not yet been tuned but I dont see why it should still not start and run roughly. ECU is a microtech LT12s. You might mock it but thats what the majority of tuners are good at around here.

It is only sparking on Cylinder number 2 and only putting fuel into number 6. What the hell could be causing this? I have checked all the connections many many many times to make sure everything is all plugged in. I have changed the plugs to some new ones at the right gap and there is still only spark on cylinder number 2. I have also fiddled with the CAS and still nothing. I have also tried fitting a working CAS and it is still doing the same thing.

What could be doing this? Could it be that the igniter is broken? Would the igniter being stuffed affect the fuel injection or could it be a coincedence and something else is f**ked at the same time. I am kind of hoping that the ECU isnt f**ked but I dont have a standard one to test on the car just for initial start up.

All suggestions welcome  Thanks guys

I would suggest that the LT12 isn't configured correctly to run a RB engine in sequential spark/injection mode. Get it to the tuner to have it set up correctly.

BTW -spark plugs themselves have no effect on spark delivery or timing.

yes i agree it should kick over and run terrible.

To me it seems that you may have to have your ecu tuned, depending on the item, or worst case your ecu maybe dodgy? is it 2nd hand or brand new?

The ECU is second hand. However it was from an rb25 and the car WAS running for a couple of laps around the block before this kind of shit happened when trying to start

tuning the ecu wont make much difference if the injectors and coils are not firing. have you checked that you are getting the signals to fire the coils/injectors?

Nah I havent. Where exactly should I look for signal to the injectors? Or just check power is getting to the injector plugs? I doubt 5 of 6 injectors are broken but I will check if there is any signal being sent to them. Should I just check for a signal between the ignitor and the coils? Do you suspect broken injectors or coils? Cheers

The injectors should have permanent power when IGN = ON. The ECU switches to earth to open the injector.

Pull the CAS, turn IGN -> ON, slowly rotate CAS shaft and listen for injector and coil activity.

Check that you haven't bent the pins inside the connector plugs when you connected everything up.

Yeh I have pulled the CAS off and have rotated the shaft around. It is still only activating inj 6 and coil 2. No pins are bent

It is sparking to all cylinders now. But why no fuel to anything but number 6? Could it be that the ignitor may stilll be faulty? Is it worth buying another ignitor and stock ecu to see if this could be my problem?

If my injectors plugs or ignitor had a crap connection would that put the car into a sort of limp mode?

Main question. should I try getting a new ignitor and ecu and trying that out?

Cheers

So it was working fine, then it stopped working, now the coils are working but you haven't found and fixed any faults? Sounds like the ECU is dodgey or the loom/connectors between it and the coils/injectors.

The ignitor should have no effect on your injectors (if that is what you were asking).

Pull the CAS out and plug in a stock ECU and see if turning the CAS fires all the coils/injectors. If so then it would point to your ECU being faulty. If not then check the loom out.

Ok I will get it checked out as soon as I can and get a stock ecu on tuesday or so. Im 350kms from the car so gotta try and get a mate to do it at the moment. I would much rather the loom be faulty than the ecu >_< Should i put the ignition to ON and just unplug one injector plug at a time and put the test light on each plug to see if they all have power? Will try and get an electrician friends out there to have a look

    • Hi, does anyone know how I can, or can a moderator remove this advertisement please.  Has been sold a long time ago and would like to remove references. Thanks.
    • There are adaptors that allow you to delete the booster and use an s15 clutch master cylinder.    if you want to keep the booster they are still available brand new
    • I visited again today: It would appear they have painted the main body of the car and some parts of some of the panels, so I can say that I now have BMW parts in my car, much to the envy of @Dose Pipe Sutututu It is still covered in dust which is quite the tease but I did look at a few circumspect spots that will be behind bumpers and such and wiped some dust away: After my repeated begging to PLEASE DONT PAINT OVER THE ENGINEERING CERTIFICATE (you have to re-engineer the entire car if they do) I see THIS: Which is great. Excellent job tbh at least to me. A better non dusty example would be the backs of the doors that have been painted: Giving a reasonable contrast between old and new (I know the old isn't clear coated on the inside of doors). The door card will well and truly cover where the old paint is, you can see in the second pic some of the black butyl/whatever shit is sticking the plastic sheet behind the door transfer that has happened since it's clearly been stuck back on. The most maddening thing about this colour is every time I saw it in the wild it looks like another colour, same with photos of many cars with the same colour looking wildly different in every photo anybody ever takes and this is no exception. But stand a little further back and it suddenly looks dark AF. I did tell them when I was discussing which of the 70 million charcoal colours to choose from (a porsche one, a BMW one, or a R32 GTR one etc) that if they just ignored me and chose one at random I would probably never notice. Maybe they did. But the colour is supposed to be B39 (BMW Mineral Gray). Boring I know, but the R34 sedan (to me) really shows off it's boat-ness when you paint it in a bright colour like bayside blue or white or whatever else. I do have a fondness for AR2 Nissan Red, but decided against that because it'll have pretty odd contrast to random bits unpainted (like engine bay, bits of trim etc, and maybe it'll fade). And people will always fkin comment on AR2. Everything remains super dusty. I have tracking numbers for the new heads, as well as some Improved Racing goodies, but they probably will be a next year thing by the time they end up on the car. I did some maths on the heads and I know why nobody goes to this extent in Australia, because it's really not worth it, given I could have just CNC'ed my current heads, bought a FAST102/TB and used my current rocker/spring/cam combination and get a 383 stroker (or stroked a 6.0 GenIV bottom end to 6.6L) built for the same price of just the setup in the mail/on the floor here. Or I could have bought a LS3 and a Drysump system. And then have a complete engine to sell. Oh well
    • We just disconnected the vacuum line if I remember correctly, booster is still there. Is there a rebuild solution for the booster or a different adapter that will work for GTR chassis?
    • Yeah 4wd (boosted) has a recess in the firewall for the booster, and 2wd is flat - the example in the link shows the flat surface. When you deleted the booster, did you just attach the factory slave cylinder directly to the recess in the firewall with no adaption?
