I know it might be what trent said with the cas but has anyone thought about the mechanic taking the car for a testdrive; thrashing it for an hour n filling the tank back up with regular 91 octane fuel? thats why its knocking so bad.

plausible as if u only had quarter tank n he used most of it, refilled with 91octane and cos ur car is tuned for 98, its knocking.

jst a thought!

if you fill the tank with 91 driving like miss daisy with a tune for 98 will still cause ~100 knock or more the moment you go near a slight incline.

Na mate,i was there most of the time and he's not as dumb as that.Filled up since then too

If the person changing your cam belt marked the cas and put it back in exactly the same position your timing will still be out bacasue of the new belt. 'Tell your tuner that your cambelt has been changed and you probably just need 5min of his time to check the base timing - not a 2 hour tune, and he should be able to fit you in (if not get another tuner).

yeh my tuner said the same thing.I'm taking the car down there tomorrow.Cheers

Just got back from seeing Matthew Spry.He got the timing light out out and adjusted my CAS.He said it was out bugger all but all is fixed now.A Big thanks to Matthew and thank you to everyone who replied on this topic!

Unbelievable! Went for a drive this morning and got knock readings of 75 and 121 while giving it a squirt in 1st and 2nd!!! Just driving normal im getting readings up to 30.So after matthew Spry adjusted the base timing it was good for a couple of weeks and gradually got worse.Really getting frustrated.

so has it always been like this or just started since the service

if always

then how was it tuned, if its just tuned on the dyno

then its likely to knock on the street, most cars knock differently on the street vs dyno

typically the owner abuses it thru the gears which is different to load simulation on the dyno

the end result is you touch a few cells tht might have too much tming, so these needs to be fixed

if only just started

then check what was changed and adjusted at the service

You need to take your car to a good tuner and get him to check your cam belt timing. If your cam belt timing is out then it will cause knock as well. once the cam belt timing is checked then check the ignition timing. if the ignition timing is okay then its possible the cam belt or ignition timing was out when it was tuned so now that everything is set correctly there are problems.

Stop flogging the car you could damage the car.

Get everything checked including the cam belt timing and then ignition timing and then get the car completly re-tuned.

    • It's the adhesive holding the ceramic wheel to the shaft the fails on 90% of them.
    • Foreign debris, physical shock, boost leak, could be anything honestly. The danger in taking all the timing out of a tune/hitting the R&R corner is that even if the engine doesn't detonate your turbo is taking a lot of abuse from high EGT. Also, even if nothing goes wrong it is a journal bearing that is spinning at 100k RPM on boost. Eventually it goes through enough cold start/pressure cycles to wear it out.
    • I kinda accidentally saw this, and was interested, but It actually seems to replaces the whole center computer, using the existing screen and buttons. AND it may only be for a G37 and not compatible with a Japanese 370. So its not for me, but someone else may be interested to look into it. Its about $680USD. If I am understanding it right, it basically replaces/installs and android pc that integrates with the existing screen. But I could be wrong. https://gromaudio.com/vline/ The video I first saw was the following, with very little and unclear details.     Even if your not interested in the system, the video on their site was pretty comforting in showing how simple the whole centre comes out

    • I’m with Shannon’s for all 5 of our cars. Agreed values seem fair, premium price is okay. ($210 ish a month, all comprehensive).  Have claimed once with them for a not at fault claim with another car where my car had no damage. Was one call after the incident and an email after. Deemed not at fault so premium didn’t go up either.    I have called up and spoken with people who are not familiar with certain cars and didn’t agree with me on value or let their personal vehicle preferences effect the call. But called back later and got someone else who was more agreeable.
