Hi all *waves*

I'm one of these people who's got their dream car.

It's a S1 R33 gts-t 5spd, in the almost black, grey color. I paid $9000 for it a couple of months ago, she's totally stock except for the turbo which was replaced by the previous owner (middle aged suit) when "it started making a strange noise - but building boost fine". It's now forced by a KKR430 running at 8psi. Like I said everything else is stock, right down the wheels, I wanted the tame look, I don't get much cop attention :cool: . Things change however and I no longer have concerns about being pulled over for drug searches/rbt's so the quest for more power begins!!

So far from my understanding having this slightly better turbo is only getting hindered by my stock intercooler and exhaust, an ideal upgrade for my low income and semi-mechanical mind would be the stock SMIC off a R34 - I also want todo something about the air on it's way out, so I want to try do exhaust and intercooler at the same time, but I've run into some questions and I know someone here will have a good answer for me, I'm looking at getting a cat back exhaust - however I'm unsure if there's any point to it while I have the stock turbo->cat exhaust in place;

In short is an upgrade from 100% stock exhaust to a 3inch cat back worth $200? Is it just going to be a new note, or will it help the breathing?

even if it's not noticeable I expect that I'll be able to upgrade the exhaust from the turbo-cat at a later date when more money comes my way, correct me if this isn't the case.

Any other tips or advice for a new skyline owner would be greatly appreciated, I'm always happy to learn new things, and meet new people.

long answer short. it'll just sound different.

Gases are hottest take up more volume and flow faster at the turbo exit, so the dump, front and cat are the exhaust sections that make the biggest impact.

Best approach would be exhaust (dump, front high flow cat) and if possible and ECU upgrade of some type.

With that your only concern really is heat. And to be honest most people stay off boost on 40 deg days anyway.

See if u can get a vipec or a apexi PFC in your budget (you might be looking at 2 grand or so for the ECU and exhaust combined).

quick edit, is a cat back worth $200?? well thats for you to answer, i wont increase performance but it will look and sound different. Is a different look and sound worth $200 to you??

Well I was quoted $500ish for a new cat back+cannon from my local exhaust bloke, and I can get a used one off here delivered for around $200 and just bolt it on myself, but if all it's going to do is make it louder and a different note then I'm not sure if I want to bother. Unless it would be beneficial to have it already in place when I get the dump, front and high flow cat?

the way my income works I get varied bursts of cash coming in, so it makes knowing what money I'll have and when; hard, so I tend to get what I can if it's compatible with future upgrades (before the car was the computer lol).

Might see if I can find the more critical end of the exhaust for the same sort of money.

Where bouts you located as i know of a few people that import cars and strip of the goodies and replace them with factory parts then sell them of for extra coin!!!

I picked up full Kakimoto racing 3"exhaust plus Trust down pipe for $400 quoted the down pipe in shops and your looking at $350 seperately so thats a bit of a tip for ya plus the Exhaust is a very deep but quiet note sounds tuff as guts!!!!!
