Hey guys, Im from the US. I have an S13 with an RB20det installed.

Heres what Im workin with...

Rb20det

Precision SC61 turbo

Z32 MAF

750cc RC injectors

Nismo bypass to Aeromotive FPR

Walbro 255

ROM tune with Ostrich and Carl H's assistance

Consult

Innovative wideband

Here's my prob.....

I run VERY rich at idle and at cruising speeds. Under load and boost the motor performs great.

I run so rich, my WBO2 reads "9.8".

Everything Ive checked, checks out fine. When I hook up the consult, everything "seems" too be running and checking out to spec.

MAF .50 key "on"

TPS .44

????O2.......which is reading .95 lambda = 14.0 AFR???

ECT within spec

Fuel Pump within spec

Timing 15*

Ive checked voltage and ohms on everything I can think of and its all fine and Ive changed the plugs 4 times now.

On Carl H's end, everything checks out to what its suppose to be with the ECU, according to him.

I'm at a loss guys, does anyone have any ideas on what else too check that would be causing these probs?

The weirdest thing I see the stock O2 sensors readings. Its not reading what the WBO2 is..not even close.

the stock o2 sensor isn't a wideband sensor. it is only designed to read between 14 and 15:1 and send the ecu a signal of either lean or rich. anything leaner than 15:1 it says rich, anything richer than 14:1 is says rich and in between is stoich. they ecu doesn't actually monitor the exact AFR.

it may possibly be that the stock o2 sensor is dead and that is why you are getting shocking economy, or the closed loop tune may be innacurate, or not even activating, however then it should just run on the same map as wide open throttle. i would be leaning more towards the tune than the o2 sensor.

I agree, today I did some test and came too the conclusion that the O2 sensor is fine.

I did find some, what seems too me, odd findings during my search today.

Let me ask in the form of a question lol

If I would check for continuity between the 2 pins of an injectors pigtail, should I get continuity?

I also put one side of the ohm meter in one side of the injector pigtail and check down at the ECU and I had continuity from the #6 pigtail to all the injector signal wires at the ECU.

I then put the one side of the ohm meter on the other pin of the same pigtail and did the same test and got continuity on all the same wires.

......does this sound right?

    • Can't see that being a thing.
    • My fob has never worked, I once attempted to follow the procedure to re-key it, (I have other fobs for the car alarm thing in there). I actually have three of them. Do aftermarket alarms take over the pairing mechanism for central locking? Or do they piggyback off it? I suppose it depends on the system, right? I have four sets of keys/keyfobs. One definitely works, one I think works, one definitely doesn't work, and I have the OEM one that has never worked :p. Is this fixable/workable/whatever? I mean I know it's beyond "just clean it" but how *do* they get synced up?
    • It's actually a really weird comparison... the MX5 is on another level and I kinda question this comparison at all. It'd be closer to compare it to a GTI/Golf/Hatch anything that kicks around. NC MX5 with a turbo has the right to go up with and beat the FD RX7 or 180SX or any other JDM hero car. That's the comparison that would really ruffle feathers.
    • @MBS206 you need more shed in your life... What sort of car is your mates race car?  Hopefully he returns the favour when you're ready to get cracking on yours! None of my mates are into cars so I don't have to worry about that as a distraction thankfully.  I have enough other distractions so I don't need that one too!  Between working 6 days a week (5 1/2 really so 55 hours or so per week), both kids have basketball almost every week night (including Friday night in Melbourne - 2 hours away), my daughter plays netball as well, my sons footy has started now and I coach his under 14's side as well as I'm on the Footy club committee this year, I ride motorbikes every spare Sunday I can find, plus trying to be some sort of a husband.  Life is a busy little exercise at the moment!  I wish there were 8 or 9 days in a week sometimes!
    • Ha ha, that is very true!  I'm too scared to leave it in the position though, it tingles my balls seeing it like that!
