I tracked down a pesky oil leak that is comming from the back of my passenger side cam cover near the half moon so Ive decided to pull it out, clean up the gasket and half moon and put it back on.

My question is should I also run a little gasket goo around the gasket for that little bit of extra insurance or should it seal up properly once I give both surfaces a good clean?

The workshop manual dosent say any thing about a a gasket sealant but IMO it couldnt hurt, any views?

Can using Goo cause any adverse negative effects?

Sorry should have stated in my first post the gaskets are only 2000ks old, dunno why they started leaking, the only thing I can put it down to Is that after a few runs of getting hot then cold then hot etc I shouldve maybe retightened all the cam cover screws????

Gasket goo all around the half moon, both the crescent and flat parts, no need for the goo anywhere else. Put the covers back on, tighten the screws starting from the inside and move outward. No more leaks :ninja:

Doesn't hurt to check the screws after a few weeks, you'll probably find that they can be tightened a bit more as the gaskets settle
