Hi All,

I was thinking about a 30 conversion into my 32 GTSt a little while ago and ran into some difficulty with regards to "legally" doing a 30 swap, mostly around emissions and VASS stuff...

So I have decided to go the path of the RB25DET

Im asking people who have done this conversion: How did you go about getting it to be legal?

If you could please post your issues or successes that you had when doing your conversion/

I dont want to be in a spot where I may have to remove the engine if I get a picky officer unlikely as it may be....

Thanks - also can we keep it on topic - I dont want people saying "Just do the 30".. blah blah blah.

Im also looking into putting a S2 RB25DET into my r32 gts-t too. I rang up a few places and was told that you have to get the engine swap approved by some company in the governmental industry .... and worst of all it was going to cost $900!

Im just going to save my money and get a r32 gtr

VASS varies - place to place.

Enkelman in Braeside are a place i've used, and many friends, their pricing is a bit more reasonable @ $600 ish... $500 cert, $100 brake test.

Either way you need a RWC to cover the basic stuff, and a Engineers to cover the motor conversion and anything surrounding it.

It will help if you have the weight of the motors and so on, although Enkelman are reasonably well versed now being they've done a fair few RB25 & RB26 signoffs now (myself and a few mates).

It should be very easy, i suggest talking to them FIRST however.

See i did things like RB25 gearbox, new diff, brakes and so on... so they could see i'd dont it properly. Not sure if they require the gearbox and similar.

Go down, have a chat, go from there. Should be a piece of piss though.

Hahaha cln - all well and good till they find a diff engine number! I thought about that with the 30 - noone could tell the difference.

Nismoid - Thanks, seems reasonable, I'll be doing similar to yourself in that the gearbox and brakes will be upgraded too so it sounds like I shouldnt have too many issues.

I spoke to a guy on the VASS list, he said I would not need a roadworthy though?

Also what aftermarket stuff did you have? ECU, Turbo etc? or was it all standard to pass the cert?

VicRoads might with regards to the conversion, might not. Just give them a ring. Imports get treated differently to Aus delivered cars as they are "high risk".

I had a standard 26 in there. You should put a standard 25 in, pass that, then do whatever you need (obviously they wont know if you upgrade turbos if they are the same etc etc)
