Exahust Cam Gear

Went to my tuner today and he said the exahust cam gear i recently bought to put on is a waste of time and wont dont do anything and is more just one of those pointless mods unless big power is wanted.

He mentioned that all it does is trick the computer into sucking more air or something like that....

Im wacking it on a r33 gtst currently boosted at 10psi and tuned with SafcII

From what i read it will help with the flat sport rb25's often have and will give me more midrange but comprimise the top end a bit

Does anyone have any opionins.. im gathering eh knows what im talking about

With a comment like that I would probably walk away and find a new tuner who knows skylines. The best application of cam gears I think is shifting torque, best use of them I think is gaining more midrange torque without sacrificing any (or very little) highend power, as a result boost will come on quicker and car will be a much nicer daily. Whereas at the track you might want max power so sacrifice alittle midrange for max topend power.

yeah thats what i thought mite have to try someone else.... I hope i dint waste a 150 buks dont really one to take it to him if hes only going to put it on and not do anything with it

IMO not worth it - you have VCT, you'll find more gains there for free... but you are only running a S-AFC so that option is also out.

Considering the level of mods - not really much point.

The money spent on the dyno trying to muck around with it on such a stock setup is better spent trying to get the car to the next stage.

Yes I think he's giving you an honest assessment.

Your mods are minimal and time spent on the dyno chasing a very few Kw will cost you a lot more than your $150.
