Hi,

Quick story, at the start of the year I had my engine pulled to be packed and shipped interstate because they can build an engine not only cheaper but better. Six plus months later the engine is back and getting put together when they tell me "oh by the way we have a storage fee of $x per week to store in the shed" which there was no mention the duration the car was there.

I acknowledge that yes they can charge a storage fee but 6+ months after telling me this has to be some sort of problem with fair trading and possibly even breach of verbal contract. When they told me this they said "you should have been told this" and clearly I wasn't because it would be cheaper to tow the car back home and back again

Thanks

Yes I'd go to the DFT to have that bill rescinded.

The quote "you should have been told this" also means, 'you weren't told this'.

Journalise every conversation/e-mail you've had verbatim... just in case.

yeah i reckon you might have a case.. ask them what happens if you tell them that this wasnt discussed and you would like the car back to how it was as you werent informed of this charge when you originally approved.. LOL

or alternatively you can take a bit on your shoulders as you say its a better engine build, and you could tell them you'll pay like 2 months (or whatever your happy with) storage and they wear the cost as you werent informed.. this might settle both sides

It could also mean " we told you, you just forgot"

I think that's more like, "you would have been told this."

There's a difference.

So blinksta, were you told,

"you should have been told this"

OR

"you would have been told this" ? ? ?

nah wasn't told at all i've even had the car there before for over a month and wasn't charged storage fee (hopefully i still have the receipt for that somewhere), and he said to me "were you aware that we have a storage fee" which i replied to "no" then he said "you should have been told this".

as far as i'm concerned they had plenty of time to inform me of the storage fee because from the start i said the engine will be going interstate and even rang them a few times to tell them about the shipping and even made an appearance a couple times and even asked how much is the tally so far to which they replied only 4-5 hours work again no mention of storage fee.

haven't been able to test the engine (wasn't built by the guys charging for storage) as well because they neglected to tell me when they were taking the engine apart from the start that my clutch will need replacing.

also they base there charge on the car being in the shed they have when i can 100% say that it hasn't been in there for the whole time because when i drove by i could see it outside and also one of my friends has a car there at the moment when he drives by he could see it and when i went in there it was outside.
