Looks great. Does anyone in Australia/Sydney do this, is it exxy and does it wreck the underlying paint?

someone in melbourne does it, there was one at melbourne autosalon

Hi fellas,

My name is Mike. I am a noob. This is my fully wrapped car in Sydney.

Hope you guys like it...

Its no GTR but still handles nicely.

Mike

that look great. its a carbon fibre wrap yes? i was fantasizing about an all carbon 35 the other day.

Yep!

100% Carbon fibre vinyl wrap.

Turns a MX-5 into something that looks more potent.

More pics of it in the Gallery:

it's been done already

there is already a satin/matt black GTR wrap in Aus, in Melb iirc

and nothing gayer than being the second guy to matt wrap a GTR

unless you choose a different colour

ive yet to see an aftermarket matt paint job (there are a few oem's doing matt paint now) - reason being they are not daily driver friendly. A bird bomb will ruin the paint, even rain water causes hard water stains that cannot be removed. Not only is the vinyl wrap less porous than matt paint, if you do get some staining, you can replace that single panel

its around 5k depending on the vehicle for these wraps these days. They do cut alot of it on the car as it's all 100% custom, so be prepared for blade lines around window trim etc when/if you remove it - just like the hack clear bra guys used to leave before they started using pre-cut templates. When removing, all you'd need to do is give the car a good detail, some prepsol or IPA to remove the left over adhesive, and a quick buff to remove any marring from sliding the film over the panels during installation

We wrapped a brand new press car in early Feb '11 in matte black. This car will be covered by the automotive media in March '11. It seems that matte black is "in"; when car manufacturers turn towards the aftermarket. :)

Our work was overseen by the car brand's execs. We did not harm the car's paint in any sort of way, or we would have to buy that car from them. $140k. Ouch!

To avoid scarring the paint, we don't cut on the panel but on the excess over the edges of the panel and fold that excess towards the panel's rear (also achieves the "completeness" effect of spray painting).

We are wrapping a R35 GT-R this week. The first in NSW I believe. Pics will be up shortly.

The rear quarter glass seal lifts up easily, so we tuck the vinyl underneath it (no need to remove glass).

On the door windows, we lifted up the belt mold and tucked it underneath that.

This methiod can be used on most cars.

Pic will be up shortly (car will be comlete this Friday).

Real excited!

Here is a sneak peek of the stripped front-end. post-81935-0-08950700-1298295767_thumb.jpg

If you want Matte Black go for Hexis HX30000 in Satin Black only it is the best finish and the easier one to clean. 3M have a product called 1080 to catch up with Hexis but not sure when it is on the market.

If you want to stand out don't go Matte go WOOD, I have a ute we are looking at doing Marble.

Yep! HX-30000 Satin is the way to go. One wipe with a wet chamois and its like new.

The super matte black is like a chalkboard. Can write on it with chalk! :)

Our supplier once said that 3M will release a new product in April this year. But....I worry that it might shrink like their CF Di-Noc.

That bicycle is beautiful! Looks awesome.

Mike

The Hexis vinyls are pretty damn good, currently re-wrapping the interior of the 34 in the 30000 Black Carbon,

Also going to re-wrap the exterior when they finally release the 1600mm wide rolls which should hopefully be within the next 2 months....

Do the interior in the new Alligator pattern they have in stock, don't worry about the carbon.

hmm somehow i don't think it will fit in with the look i want, maybe more for a luxury car perhaps?

Im quite interested to see what the new mirror chrome wrapping vinyl will be like and how it will handle stretching... chrome R35 anyone?

anyone able to give a vague number of how much it costs to get a car wrapped? heh my 33 looks like a heap of shit right now and this could be cheaper than a total respray

Since you're in Sydney, ill leave that to the NSW guys, it is certainly cheaper to do a wrap than respray (this can change though if you go for some of the more extravagent vinyls), although i suppose that depends on the prices you get quoted, through us it is :)
