Is It This Simple Or Do I Need More Work.....

Hi guys/girls,

Im in need of boot room. Just took out my twin 12" subs which obviously took up all my boot space. As you can imagine the sound system is now CRAP.

Saw there is a spare tyre. Can I remove the tyre and cut a hole in the cover panel and just screw 1x 12" sub there.

Can anyone let me know what work will be required.

depends... on lots of things...

under the rear tyre is a little notch that sticks up to keep the tyre in place, the sub might be too big and foul on it.

it will sound like shit unless it's enclosed in a box, so you would have to make that fit the space

What most people do is make a false floor, basically just make a box that fits in that area and raise the entire floor up as much as need be.

It is quite a lot of work to do it right.

just get a good single 12" and do mold on side of boot

that way you keep your spare have bass and boot space

how much would i be looking at for a 12" sub box to fit in side. Just wanting to keep cost as low as possible as im strapped for cash atm. Would it be worth selling my sub box but keep my subs.

Its a pioneer, outside of box has carpet stuff all over it. Aluminium or metal of sorts trims. Inside of box is lined with a cotton foam material.

the fibreglass corner boxes are crap, they sound bad and they're expensive.

i've seen a few fits done where you cover the wheel well in alfoil/glad wrap, and then fibreglass over it, and layer dynamat in the fibreglass and make a sort of bottom for the box, then build a false floor and sikaflex it on to the bottom section....

either that, get over it, you've got a skyline, its not a family car, stiff shit if there's no boot room, go buy a commodore if you want boot space...

i can actually fit both subs where the spare goes. they sit about an inch or so above the wheel well, will this be a problem being magnetic????

my plan was to use same material that is inside my sub box (cotton fluffy stuff) and line the wheel well, then cut 2 holes in the tyre cover to fit subs and sikaflex + screw tyre cover back down. screw subs in and connect.

The boot already has dynamat throughout the boot lid and i have the stock card boot lining things.

If it sounds real crap then i can just put the sub box back in and have no boot once again since the sub box will cover my 2 holes i will cut.

What difference will it make if i face my subs into the car, as they now are facing out of the car????? (meaning turn my box around as this will create a little more room)

My skyline is a family performance car....lol, fits shopping luggage gets me from A to B FAST and has a good sound system.

if Fhrx Studios recommend and install these in their sound wining cars and not being to exy then they do sound good.

im not sure where you heard corner boxes sound bad but if its a home made job of course it will not sound good

imo skylines have a decent boot and a side box would be perfect for what his guy needs

thanks 08r3308 i think i will get 1 box and put to the side. any rough idea of cost for box...i will install myself.

since im only running 1 sub, will it sound better. the car came with both in it and if my reading is correct I have a 600W amp and 2x 1000W subs (400W minimum) the sub box only had 1 speaker cable to the amp and then it run another cable into itself. im presuming it split itself so both woofers running but through 1 amp terminal.

mm sure... i've retailed the fibreglass boxes made by innovation audio on the gold coast. they sound really bad, as the fibreglass flexes, and defeats the purpose of a box all together.

im heading to sound in motion tomorrow and see what they have in the way of sub boxes.

there's your problem right there (innovation audio) , not all subs are suited to one box.

maybe you should get yourself down to Fhrx Studios and you can hear many , because that guy does wonders with sound.

bought a sub box for $80 today (just mdf sealed box), fitted it and wired it myself. have my boot room and the sound is even better than before.

now i have a spare 12" 1000W sub and a twin 12" sub box........
