That makes 2 of us! The 6th will be the first time i have driven this car on the track, i cant help but thinking i will have to be in a gear lower than the evo around turn 6 and the tighter stuff. say 2nd gear instead of 3rd.

Are you finding your short shifting 2-3 on the exit of 6? and does it drop much off boost doing so?

turn 6 isnt the problem so much. its long enough that you can take it in 3rd gear and just hold the throttle down most of the way through the corner and control the oversteer with the steering wheel. dont worry about touching the ripple strip - more important to take the corner faster and have the power down than to take the shortest path through the corner so aim for a slightly wider apex.

The real problem is turn 3/4 (the dipper) on the sprint track. I have found that trying to take it in 3rd gear leaves you in a world of lag coming out of the dipper.. You can take it in 2nd but then you have to be really gentle with the throttle as your exiting at 80-90km/hr - basically peak torque/power area which means the ass end just slides when you try and nail it. Even antessa can't save you ;) The fact that the exit is negative camber doesnt help either. Feel it out and see how you go. Happy to take you round in the passenger laps session if you wanna see what i do. I'm no Jim Richards though.. you'll prob lap faster than me anyway :)

SIF use a T04Z and only want 370rwkw... Why have a turbo that will do 440rwkw in a sniff if you only want 370? - GT35 all the way

car puts out 420awkw on high boost

Running wide coming out of the dipper is pretty comon for me on sprint, the Evo is just drawn to the dirt, must be in its heritage!

Should be good fun anyway, i have been spoilt at how easy it is to drive the evo quickly, will have my hands full again back in a quick gtr.

Will definately have to have a chat with you up there. Would it be fair to say you will be in the 57,s or there abouts?

"Third gear should be fine for turn 6....if its not then you aint going fast enough into it"

I would normally agree with you but i have a feeling that this one will have too much lag, cant see myself on boost @5000rpm in 3rd

mid corner, only time will tell though..

fark no ;) My current PB is 1.00 flat, though I did that with the exhaust leak and on my last lap of the day, so i'm still improving. my tyres are shot though so i dont think ill be cracking any mega fast laps this time. testing and tuning a few things not worried about lap times.

ohh sorry your running a to4z too...i missed that bit..

Shit like gervase was saying...the dipper, our gt35r is abit dull....id imagine it would be a fair whack worse with a to4z.

Well maybe the extra horsepower will help you down the straights...

I was looking at the timeattack website and just assumed that it was your 33 that did the 58 something on the holy grail list.

Upon looking again it was Darren Mcmahon.. Similar looking car. No graphics though i think.

I certainly hope so...I really think my Evo will be alot quicker through all the tight stuff even as stock as the Evo is.

The straight however will be a very very different story, the Gtr comes on late, but very very strongly indeed.

I think its going to be a calculation before the apex to get on it, and hope you got your timing right as it comes on boost near exit!

Twins would definately be a better option for clubman and sprint. What sort of times are you guys getting?

last TA, 57.8x or something i think...have to check the website...but PB is 56.3.

If I dont crack that PB at next TA on tuesday im gonna be well and a truly annoyed.

What times were you doing in the evo?

59's in the Evo. Just a reflash, plenty of neg camber, different pads, re55's, Stock everything else.'

It really needs an exhaust, more boost and a bigger rear sway bars and early to mid 58's would

be pretty acheivable.

I would be equally as dissapointed and pissed off if i didnt beat my Evo's 59:7 in the GTR!

Looking forward to seeing you in action. ;)

things that make it last.

safe tune

keeping it under 8k with a soft limiter.

not thrashing till the oil is up to 70 degrees or so.

good air cleaner (not k and n) foam types filter the best. if you can incoporate a paper one then better

lots of oil.

kepping everything under 110 degrees.

oh and obviously a well put together bottom end..

my engine did 50k before i pulled it out with 376awkw on 1.6 bar ,didnt loose 1kw on same dyno from initial tune to last time it was run. not much blowby but having a good sump is key.

100k between rebuilds shouldnt be out of the question.

Me too :P

The GT35 would wake it up and be faster over the course of a lap.

Are you really set of lap times etc? Or not really that concerned?

If you are, then it might be worth a look to select the best turbo for your power aim, and just let go the 420rwkw peak/street squirt power... but again, ultimately that depends on the perferred use of the car/what you want to achieve ;)

Safety is the first priority. Timeattack by virtue of its name is all about times though. We all try and push ourselves and get the times down.

I really dont think that 370 to 420 will make very much difference in the terms of times. At 370 we will have to moderate the throttle on the

Exit on all of the corners. the straight on the shorter tracks isnt that long so for the sake of 2 tenth i would rather keep the output down and be a little on the safer side for the motor/turbos.

Money no object i agree there are other more suitable turbos for short circuit work, Twins would be better again though i feel

hell no! Foot flat to the floor pre apex and then clench your sphincter and hope your tyres are up to it :P <3 Attessa

hahaha.... Good times!!! I never worried too much about any corner until on July 8th a VS SS lost it on turn 6 and ploughed into pit wall right were we were standing, we saw it happening and managed to get back about 3 metres, just far enough away that the glass from the headlamps showered down just behind us. Incredible! I actually have a pic that my mate took just before impact that i will post up tonight. I think we all slowed up for at least ten minutes after that!

Well 370-420 is a 50rwkw difference, the extra response you get will make a bit of a difference, it would be noticeable (more so than 2 tenths a lap) - but each to their own :P

  • 4 weeks later...

Well 1 track day down, 2 to go this year..

We took some advise and added some vp109 to the 98 octane.

We added 20lt to the tank to fill it up. The car ran very very well

the only problem had was one of the intercooler pipes [the only non silicon hose]

developed a split that opened up more as the day progressed, resulting in lower power

than we hoped. It was only running 1.1 bar on sprint circuit as opposed to 1.3 [low].

R31 Nismoid, we only ran low boost on the 6th which was a good way of getting to know the car

but next time [without a split hose] we will run all 420awkw, which i imagine will bring our times

down significantly. So in short yeah it would be silly not to use its full output especially with some

race fuel in the equation.
