Gday all

Just need to check on what warning lights people have, mainly on a manual series 2, On mine i don't have a hicas light but i do have a 4wd light with the little s in the middle and as

far as I am aware the 4wd light is only on auto's? The light is in the bottom left of the cluster.

I am having a few issues with my hicas and the 4wd (s) light has come on a few times and it has got me thinking (confused)

So if anyone else has a manual and a 4wd (s) light (good) if not WTF

cheers

get under your car at the rear... between the to rear wheels... there should be something looking like this... this is hicas... im fairly sure all rs4s have them... my 260 does!

on the cluster its the bottom left hole is hicas and next one is 4wd.

my s2 auto has that button with 4wd S on it... thats a center diff lock... unsure if maunals have this... i doubt it but may be wrong.

what problems are you having...???

with acc power you WILL get hicas and 4wd light. until it checks its all good like all other ones.

above all rip out your cluster and see what you have... i gota fealing they block out the ones your car wont use (lights)

if you have hicas but dont think its working or somthing most likely your allingments pretty ghetto spec.

theres a hicas diagnositc around+

a quick google showed all manuals have hicas... id get a $99 lock back and be done... fk it right off lol

yeah i defiantly have hicas under there.

The hicas pump is getting pretty noisy so i am taking it to the mechanic on Friday to see what our options are. I would rather keep the hicas if at all possible.

As far as the lights are concerned I have a 4wd with the little s in the middle on the far left then i have a 4wd light next to that they all light up but i am starting to think that where

my 4wd,s light is it should be hicas. ehter that or the hicas light is there but in a different spot and not lighting up due to a major problem which according to the manual does happen.

Or i have a auto cluster with manual surrounds to cover the gear lights :P which worries me!!!

mine has a hicas light . "hicas" . has a 4wd light . "4wd" no s in it . yours sounds like its half an auto or something . shouldnt have the 4wd light with the s in it as autos have this and its syncro . makes 50:50 torque split front and rear . manuals done have it . got a pic of your dash when you turn the key on and all the lights turn on

i dont have a manual cluster but that light with the 4 wheels and axel image with the "S" in the middle is the light that lights up when you press the centre diff lock/syncro button. the 4WD light is beside that one on the right and is a yellow light that just has 4WD on it. do you have a centre diff lock/syncro button, its right beside the rear de-mister button.

noisey hicas pump??? hmmm there isn't a pump, its an electric actuator. its like a big windscreen wiper motor that controls a linear actuator. are you sure its not you 4WD pump, its at the rear of the car, drivers side i think.

yeah sorry hicas motor, when i pull up it ticks for a couple of seconds, the other day i pulled up and it kept on going so i jumped out and the hicas motor was the only thing vibrating.

(black wiper motor looking thing hanging off the diff)

sounds like i might have a auto cluster, I checked all the screws around the cluster and they all look as if they have never been touched so i thought i would put the question out there.

No there isn't a 50/50 lock button which is a shame, not sure what i would use it for but would be cool!!

u my friend have an auto cluster.... what i would be doing is running the hicas diagnostic... or unpluging the cords at the hicas unit... this MAY get the 4 wheeled 'S' symbol staying on... this confirms you have an auto cluster i spose...

open your boot... right hand side little flap open it... and sus ur 4wd fluid resivour!...

the s one is the center diff lock... ONLY found on autos...

i have a hicas unit you could probly have if u wanted.

don't know if it will help at all, but I had both the hicas and the 4wd light on at the same time (and my car now has no HICAS, and has been converted to manual). It was the only time I've ever seen them come an, and it was due to low voltage from the battery.

Admittedly, the wiring in my car will prpobably be a bit differentto yours, but it may be worth checking your battery...?

Doesn't the "Auto Cluster" have the gear sellector possition between the tacho n the speedo. ie Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive etc

Maybe someone has changed that window.

the silver bit that covers the dails will be a manual one and will cover up all the "p r n d 321" on the auto cluster as it doesnt have the slot cut in it. my rs four s dash has holes for all the auto lights in the back of it

not to sure what the go is, normally i would be leaning towards the km's wind back, but the condition of the seats, steering wheel, pedals and everything else makes me think other wise.

as for the auto to manual conversion, yeah maybe, anything is possible!!!

I have also had a similar problem, after we got mine going with the fresh paint in the engine bay all the earths where not making good contact, constantly had the 4wd light on. Ended up scratching all the paint off and problem went away.

Hi can anyone tell me if my R33 1995 model has a fluid reservoir in the rear of the car for power steering fluid.

    • Racetronix also sells those ethanol content sensor bypass blocks. Adapter, Flex-Fuel E85 Sensor High-Flow Bypass, In-line No Sensor (ADF-FLEX-NS): Adapters - Flex Fuel | Racetronix Ethanol content sensor are originally designed to be on the feed line. These bypass blocks are meant to be ran in the feed line and not return. The continental ethanol content sensors have a 3/8" ID and not 5/16". This is why they are ran on the return line directly in conjunction with a low threshold sampling value VS in the feed with one of these blocks.    Haha we think alike, I used both original feed/return for 8AN feed, and one of the Hicas lines as a 6AN return. I also capped off and left the other Hicas line as a spare.
    • Interesting, I haven't read about the issue with oil getting into the speedo in the cluster before. I'll have to take more notice with mine. The speedo on my R32's when I've run factory diff and tyre size have never been accurate as far as I can remember. The non Type-M GTS-t did come with 15" 5 stud wheels and smaller brakes, but that's less than 5% of them.
    • Good to hear the condenser you picked up off my brother worked all good. Do you think there could be an issue with your AC compressor itself or the clutch on it then? I don't know a lot about them so I can't really help but keen to hear what it ends up being. Keep the build thread going man, it's nice to look back on over time.
    • This is a story of my life things, I learned eventually (thanks to someone calling me out) that my enthusiasm for discussing and sharing ideas that it came across as arrogance and I'm like... WTF?!    One thing I'm pretty sure I justifiably pride myself on is knowing that everyone will have things they can teach you, and you're always going to find out that something you think you know turns out wrong - you just don't know what it is until you get there.   Just the bursting enthusiasm that comes with ADHD when you hit something that gives you dopamine dumps can come across like you think everyone else is wrong or don't matter. But yeah, I'm a software engineer by trade and also do tuning in weekends and 100% have long had a reputation for  quickly making connections when resolving problems or forming solutions that I've sometimes had to take people form a long walk from start to end to explain how I ended up where I did when it's seemed "too simple" when I've stated my initial case, and had the "WTF" type reaction when they've realised how much was actually considered haha.   My reward is that I get all the curly problems thrown at me.
