what am i doing wrong?...ive got a r32 running around 145 MPH weighing 1571kg...its got over 600kw at the treads.

Take the dead bodies out of the boot... Might shed a few kilos...

How do you have a fully stripped car weighing so much?

Also, to the dope asking if you double your torque will you accelerate twice as fast... Basically, YES.

Torque = Force x Distance.

Keep distance constant, double your torque, you had to double the torque.

Acceleration = force / mass.

From the above formula force just double, your mass has remained the same, therefore your acceleration just doubled.

So long as you put the power to the ground (And we weren't debating that, you were debating power figures VS MPH/ET)

A car that reads 400KW @ 10 000RPM HAS to be slower at its peak power rating (In terms of acceleration) compared to a car making 400KW @ 5000 RPM when it is at it's peak power rating... The 5000RPM car is pushing down double the torque!

Would low 11s be possible in a 32 rb30det with 300 odd rwkw with propper suspension set for drags and a pair of semis god and warmed up? I have a fairly consistant launch and usually pull a sub 2 60 foot time.

for a comparrison i ran a 12.1 at 103mph full street trim on tyres that were pretty much down to the wires and d2 coilovers. I think my 60 ftr was 1.64 or 1.74 or something that was also with 300rwkw so i am guessing with some decent tyres id probably just get into the 11's. Your car will be making more torque than my 26 though

i have removed the rear seat, boot trims, A/C and stereo...everything else is still there...its not as 'stripped' as a lot of people think. Add into that the weight of the cage and other associated safety items and its no featherweight. I built the car to comply with the ANDRA Sport Compact street class rules and they were quite strict in keeping the entrants genuine street cars. Anyway i like my carpet, power windows, sound deadening, factory controls, interior trims etc. stripping it fully would make for a pretty awful car to drive on the road.

its been a while since ive looked in the boot for stowaways so i might have a squizz and clear them out.

Might be making yourself look like the dope there chief. What is power? Work done. You can have all the torque in the world and go no where if no work is being done. Accceleration is the result of work, obv torque is directly related to speed and power. Two cars with identical power are accelerating at the same rate for the same mass, one car cannot accelerate faster without doing more work (power) than the other.

In reality the car with the highest average power will be quicker. If the gearing is right the car having that power at higher rpm (ie less torque) will likely be quicker given traction limitations assuming the same average power/weight etc etc.

It's making double the torque. Double the acceleration (Remember, comparing one skyline to another, you need to be keeping the gears etc the same).

I hope your not designing powertrains! You have failed to address the basic things I have commented on (physics if you will).

Might have been 107 mph i can't remember exactly but my first run was a 13.4 at 113mph

edit: yeah i was way off lol these were my times

1st run i ran a 13.4 @ 113mph 2.38 60ft

2nd run was a 12.3 @ 109mph 1.86 60ft

3rd run i ran a 12.1 @ 108mph 1.74 60ft

1st time at the track and had only owned the car for a month aswell

people who use the phrase "torque wins races" usually have no idea in the world what torque is...

Yes you should throw on your old hard rubber. federal RS-r's will not cut it on a prolonged dyno session. I have watched mine turn to molasses.

I had mine tuned ages ago and at the time it only had 250ish kw, but it was strapped down with NUMEROUS straps. Anyone who has been to the PITS knows the top notch setup matty has going on there.

Pluss I would think that it would have to be strapped down WELL due to OH&S requirements. I dont care who you are, not strapping a car down, or just using 1 strap is completely negligent.

Can you please get some pics and some info on this strapping method, on the DD dyno we have here in Georgia (Unigroup Engineerings old dyno) with my car on it i cannot stop the wheel spin at all. I am strapping it the same i did on other previous DD dynos and there was no wheel spin but now here.. its driving me crazy!!!

Maybe a car making 480RWHP at 9000RPM it is...

But if it's pushing 480RWHP at 4500RPM... You're making double the torque... IE, it'll accelerate twice as fast... :P

Edit: As to that video of the car "climbing" out of the dyno... I wouldn't even call that movement if you'd seen how mine used to walk around when coming on boost until we worked out how to strap it on perfectly...

Car used to walk 1.5Ft sideways, and if it didn't go sideways, it'd climb OVER the front of the roller and nearly touch the front of the dyno... Oh, and the whole time it's doing this it's filling the work shop with tyre smoke... :P

Took us a bit to work it out, but lower the ramp rate, and we actually LOOSENED one of the straps to stop it wheel spinning so much... Still shredded the tyres though in the end... And they were just normal streets!

What way was it strapped? and what ramp rate did you end up using?

    • I think the concept is highlighting the various scenarios where thicker oil helps, and thicker oil potentially doesn't help and only generates heat and costs power, in turn for safety which isn't actually any safer (unless you're going real hot). If anything this does highlight why throwing Castrol 10w-60 for your track days is always a solid, safe bet. 
    • Jason should have shown a real viscosity vs temp chart. All the grades have very little viscosity difference at full operating temperature.
    • Oops... I meant to include the connector  view... BR/W - power from fuse L/W - motor negative to fan control amp (and off to HVAC pin19) OR/B - PWM signal (from HVAC pin20) B --  ground  
    • Yep, if you are applying filler it sounds like there is something wrong with the body lol. Safe to assume there is going to be a lot of sanding going on if your still applying fillers.  Picture a perfect bare metal panel, smooth as glass. You lay down your primer, it's perfect. (why are you going to sand it?) You lay down the colour and clear, it's perfect. No sanding at all took place and you've got a perfectly finished panel.  You won't be chasing your tail, sounds like you were prepping to start laying filler. If your happy with the body after the sanding, there is some bare metal exposed and some areas with primer, no issues at all, start laying the filler. You are safe to lay filler on bare metal or primer (of course check your technical data sheet as usual for what your filler is happy to adhere to).  This isn't a 100% correct statement. There is primer that is happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. There are fillers that are happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. Just make sure you're using the right materials for the job.  Typically if you are using filler, you would go primer, colour and clear. I've never seen any instances before where someone has laid colour over body filler (maybe this happens, but I haven't seen it before). So your plan sounds pretty normal to me. 
    • I don't think there's any way someone is push starting this car.. I honestly can barely move it, and moving it and steering it is just flat out not possible. I'm sure it is, but needs a bigger man than me. I have a refurbished starter now. The starter man was quite clear and consise showing me how nothing inside a starter really should contribute to slow cranking, and turned out that for the most part... my starter was entirely fine. Still, some of the wear items were replaced and luckily it didn't show any signs of getting too hot, being unfit for use, etc. Which is 'good'. I also noticed the starter definitely sounded different, which is a bit odd considering nothing should have really changed there.... Removed and refit, and we'll pretend one of the manifold bolts didn't fully tighten up and is only "pretty" tight. GM only wants 18ft/lb anyway. I also found a way to properly get my analog wideband reading very slightly leaner than the serial wideband. There's Greg related reasons for this. The serial output is the absolute source of truth, but it is a total asshole to actually stay connected and needs a laptop. The analog input does not, and works with standalone datalogging. Previously the analog input read slightly richer, but if I am aiming at 12.7 I do not want one of the widebands to be saying 12.7 when the source of truth is 13.0. Now the source of truth will be 12.65 and the Analog Wideband will read 12.7. So when I tune to 12.7 it'll be ever so slightly safer. While messing with all of this and idling extensively I can confirm my car seems to restart better while hot now. I did add an old Skyline battery cable between the head and the body though, though now I really realise I should have chosen the frame. Maybe that's a future job. The internet would have you believe that this is caused by bad grounds. In finding out where my grounds actually were I found out the engine bay battery post actually goes to the engine, as well as a seperate one (from the post) to the body of the car. So now there's a third one making the Grounding Triangle which is now a thing. I also from extensive idling have this graph. Temperature (°C) Voltage (V) 85 1.59 80 1.74 75 1.94 70 2.1 65 2.33 60 2.56 55 2.78 50 2.98 45 3.23 40 3.51 35 3.75 30 4.00   Plotted it looks like this. Which is actually... pretty linear? I have not actually put the formula into HPTuners. I will have to re-engage brain and/or re-engage the people who wanted more data to magically do it for me. Tune should be good for the 30th!
