Hi guys,

This is the official thread for the NIStune group buy. Please ask all questions and register interest in here only. This group buy will run for 14 days only, starting from today, so this offer will end on the 15th of Ooctober. You MUST have your money paid to me by this date!

This group buy is for NIStune solutions for the RB25DET NEO only (for Series 2 Stageas, make sure your ECU has "JECS" printed on it). Currently on offer are the following three options:

1: Daughterboard + Installation

For $314.20 + your ECU sent to NIStune, NIStune will supply and fit the Type 4 board (go to http://www.nistune.com, click the "About" link and go about 1/2 way down the page for an explanation), then post the unit back to you. This is broken down into:

$243.10 for the type 4 board (RRP $286)

+ $ 56.10 for the install (RRP $66)

+ $ 15.00 postage to get it back to you. (Total RRP is $367, so total saving is $52.80)

2: Daughterboard Only

For $258.10 NIStune will send the Type 4 board to you. This is broken down into:

$243.10 for the type 4 board (RRP $286)

+ $ 15.00 postage to get it to you. (Total RRP is $367, so total saving is $52.80)

NOTE!! If you are taking this option, please read the Type 4 Board Hardware Installation documentation.

NOTE!! Postage for customers outside of Australia is $25.

3: NIStune Software

For this group buy, the cost of an Individual Users License has been reduced by 25%. This takes the $220 RRP down to $165 (total saving of $55). This group buy does not cover Tuners Licenses.

I currently don't have a confirmed price for the software on its own posted out, but I'd imagine it'll be the cost of the software + $15 for postage. If we have any interest for the software on its own, I'll enquire and update this post.

What Information Do I need to supply?

As per the NIStune website, I need to know your vehicle's name, model and year.

Things to note:

We need at least 5 sales of the daughterboard (either on their own, or installed) for the daughterboard prices to happen.

We need at least 5 sales of the software to obtain the software prices also.

Questions and answers:

Q: Are Series 1 RB25DET stageas covered by this group buy.

A: No. The series 1 Stagea has an entirely different ECU that NIStune don't currently make a daughterboard for. They may offer a daughterboard in the furutre though.

Q: How long does it take?

A: Outside of postage there and back, it takes 1-2 days to fit the board to the ECU, test it and then package . Usually they are done in a day though, so that there's no backlog. Individual items such as software and individual daughterboards are generally sent out the same day the order is received.

Q: Can you adjust boost pressure with the NIStune ecu?

A: This is the reply from Matt at NIStune:

Interesting question. I'm investigating right now. In theory I know we have a boost map and we have a boost sensor. Consult-II actually reports the boost sensor voltage btw. However we haven't played around with them at all (yet). I'm in the process of taking the solenoid from a GTT and measuring the duty cycle measurements as the map is changed. Currently in Nistune there were two maps displayed for boost, but only the second one is actually used. It will be necessary to adjust the nozzle size similar to what the guys have done on the S15 SR20DET. There is a document on this thread worth reading http://forum.nistune.com/viewtopic.php?t=1114

Q: If my Stag is completely stock, with no immediate plans for mods, is this still worth it?

A: Yes and no. No because: Having the daughterboard installed will make no difference, as the original tune is retained until you take it to a tuner and get it re-written. The Series 2 Stagea does run an excessively rich top end, so a tune on a bog stog Stagea should at least see you with some better fuel economy and a little better power, but it won't be anywhere near as good without supporting modifications. Yes because: If you have any plans for modification at all, this is a good price for a fantastic tuning option. As it is a dauhterboard, it also retains all of the of the more standard procedures like factory cold-start and proper integration with the auto-trans.

Q: Does this mean i need to unplug my ECU and then refit?

A: Yes. If you're purchasing option 1, your ECU needs to be sent to NIStune. Removing the ecu is as simple as removing the passenger kick panel, then unbolting the loom from the ECU (1 bolt from memory), unbolt the ECU from the chassis (3 or 4 bolts from memory) and it's off. Reinstallation is the same thing in reverse.

Q: If i got this done, would i go straight to a dyno for a tune, regardless of the fact the engine is stock?

A: Your car will still run as it did before the NIStune installation, as the original tune is still on the ECU. You can take the car to a NIStune tuner at your leisure.

Q: Can I acquire a daughterboard on its own without having it installed at NIStune?

A: Yes. Please refer to option 2 above.

Q: Can I pay you by PayPal?

A: Yes, but I'd rather you don't. PayPal will cost you more, because there is a surcharge at my end for receiving a payment. If you don't have the funds in your PayPal account as well, it can take quite a while for the money to clear. If you would still like to pay me by PayPal, send me an email and I'll find out what they charge to add to your bill.

hi pyro-ns im interested in this for sure but i need to know when i can send my ecu away because i need it back asap as i have a drag meet at the end of the month and it will be the stags maidin voyge down the strip so would like to have it sent on tues so i can have it back within a week so i can get it to the tuners and check for bugs before her run

regarding the boost controller, see the third question in the Q n A above. There's a document posted in that thread. If you're comfortable with that setup, use NIStune, otherwise an alternative boost controller will be what you're after. JayCar have a cost effective EBC which allows you to set boost via injector duty cycle (so how much you put your foot down). there's a few threads on here about it also :)

Hi johnny. The earliest you'd be able to send the ECU away would be so that it arrives around the 19th/20th. The money from the group buy wouldn't be transferred to NIStune until the 16th (the day after the group buy ends), then allow 3 or 4 days for it to clear, as transfer is by bank deposit. What date is your drag meet? I would have thought that a NIStune tuner would be able to tune a car in a few hours. There shouldn't really be any bugs with a reputable tuner...

to the best of my knowledge, the daughterboard doesn't hold the tune. it just enables you to burn a new tune to the existing ecu, as well as monitor/log data. this means that there will be absolutely no change to the standard tune, because the daughterboard doesn't edit the original ecu in any way, until you tell it to burn a new tune into it.

Guys i have just got one of these installed on my gtt..

Only basic mods done, Just jap FMIC , 3 in turbo back exhaust...

Went from 155-160 to 221RWKW.. tuning only took a few hours , bt i havent had any trouble with it, no cold start issues or anything.

Do they have stock maps they can provide so that I can load them on once I get the board installed locally? (if anyone else is in Perth and wants a board installed, let me know)

we install the factory ROM into the board which matches the Nissan part# on your ECU. The ECU will function identically as before. For example on my GTT I installed a board about a week after getting the vehicle :) but we didnt upgrade the parts until many months later. First went in the injectors/turbo and I resized from factory to 480CC Nismos whilst at the fitters and got it home. After that we took it for a spin and maxed out the factory AFM quickly!!

After a few weeks was was installing Z32 AFM at my place in the driveway and then resizing inside Nistune to that. After about a week we finally took it to the dyno for a tune and that was the first mapping done on the board. So the tune is already in there and the minor tweaks required no major changes. Note that I didnt boost it until we got to the dyno because the enrichment changes are theroeticaly only and need to be checked with a wideband AFR meter

Lastly, do you know if they are able to translate maps from another ECU into Nistune maps? My stag if reasonably heavily modified and if they could come close to replicating the current tune that'd be fkn awesome!

This is a tricky one... the Nissan maps are 16x16 grid and the load scaling depends on how much power your engine makes to how you setup the scaling. Nissan ECUs use a 'TP' value for load so you would need to translate the equivalent from the other ECU.

Fueling on a factory ECU use Fuel and VE maps. VE used during O2 feedback and fuel maps may be different to how the aftermarket is setup. You would probably be best starting with the factory tune and then tweaking that. For RB25DET NEOs we found with mine that the fuel map did not need much changing. Other tuners have said the same, that they basically left the factory fuel map alone as the AFRs were all good.

Probably can view the timing table from the aftermarket unit and use it as a reference I would suggest and just copy the timing maps across where possible. I wouldnt do it here though on the bench... leave that for when the car is ready to be tuned

quick question. do i need the software to run the Nistune ? just trying to work out a budget to grab one of these suckers !

if you're tuning it yourself, yes, you need the software to run it :) if you're getting someone to tune it, who can tune it (ie: make sure they can tune it before you shake on anything), they will have their own copy, so no need to worry :) if you're tuning yourself, you'll also need a consult cable to connect the ECU to the computer you're running the software on and a wideband O2 sensor to tune it properly.

if you (or anyone) needs a consult cable, let me know. am already considering a consult cable group buy :P

i've just asked my workshop about it, if they can tune it. if not i have a backup plan B. so i guess soft ware is a no go for me,

now i'll just email Matt from nistune, to see the charge for paypal, cause this way the women doesn't know im buying it muahahah :P

oh and should i let him know im from the SAU group buy ?

im sorry to be a pain in the ass but i think some one has screwed with my ecu. i am going to pull it out and have a look at what it is, i will let you know asap if i still need the nistune. sorry for any trouble i have caused. its just there is nothing on my case and i want to be sure it is a nissan ecu and that it is a jecs board,

Im not going to be able to have mine off the road for time its getting done now :P

But still keen on option 2, so will transfer money next week when im finished work.
