Hey simon what are your thoughts on limiter bashing, my tuner and a fair few people here seem to think it cracks oil pumps and all sorts due to everything getting unbalanced and vibrating, thoughts?

My tuner personally likes just dropping it down to almost 10:1 where the red line is to kill the power and make the engine tend to drop back in revs anyway.

I'm pretty certain that many motors that have died as a result of cracked gears and limiter action were either a) non standard gears b) non standard pumps or c) combo of both and to much clearance.

Stock motors are fine. I've never once cracked an oil pump as a result of limiter in 10 years of drifting. All my motors see plenty of limiter action.

As for tuning it to taper off up top I would never do it. Most engines fall over and start losing power as they near limit anyway so no need to adjust that. If your motor is making peak power right near limit and still climbing then maybe adjust the cam gears a but to bring it back towards the midrange a bit

So that battle went to a re run and who went through?

I'd be interested to know why you didn't get the win off that first battle. To me you pull away out of turn one. Tom Carries less angle then chases you down. But that's with less angle. I would have thought advantage you.

Then your chase lap you emulate his angle and stay the same proximity all

Run. Advantage you.

Or am I missing something?

I see you have dropped the big wing as well. Any reason or just a change?

yeah the general consensus is that i won the first battle and it should never have been rerun...everyone has the same opinion, even tom said i won it haha.. except the judges. when i asked them why they reran it they said that i won my lead lap however on the chase lap they scored it 7-3 in toms favor because i sacrificed angle to maintain proximity... i mean really?!

its stuff like this that makes me wonder why i bother competing

as for the wing.. yeah i got over it. the grip isnt really needed for drifting in fact its more of a backwards step then anything. my car has a lot of mechanical grip as it is. With the wing on and doing 160 into the first corner to enter theres a lot of grip in the rear and it makes it hard to break away.. but once sideways you lose the aero and suddenly you have less grip. makes it feel a tad unpredictable.

Whaaat? Maybe for 2 seconds near the end, for the rest of it you were like a ghost of Tom's car! Anyway, top quality driving mate! That's the sort of thing I'm hangin out for in the ADGP at the end of October :D

It's easy to be an arm chair judge but I'm guessing that footage is shot from the judging area making it fair to judge from. There has been quite a few people upset this year from judges calls in the tassy series but where the majority of spectators watch from gives a totally different aspect to what the judges see so they can ony go off what they see. You do seem to get the rough end of the stick with calls thoe. Good driving non the less.

    • Some sense has prevailed! What kind of idiot spends money on intake, heads, and cams for a N/A motor in 2025? Lol. What maroons. Source:I am King Maroon.
    • So, cams are not getting installed......yet  Had a good chat with MX5 Mania about intakes, they recommend not to get ITB's, they recommend a plenum style for the NC So, one of these puppies is being ordered, with a larger TB to suit, when it arrives from the US the car will go in for the cams and intake I'm also getting a fancy rear box bit for the air filter box which will suit the new TB size
    • Clamp meter is pointless. Unless you're trying to keep average current under a set value for some weird reason (maybe you undersized your wiring?), then you'll get no useful info. What you're really trying to target is the flow of fuel coming back to the tank. You want some, but not a lot. You also want to make sure fuel pressure remains stable.   So, fuel pressure gauge, and fuel flow gauge. Set it up from that.
    • Aside from the fact it is likely fuel related if it is black, the symptoms otherwise sound like worn valve stem seals. Oil gets past the worn seals when the engine is off and burns when the engine starts. If it happens on deceleration while driving (puffs of white smoke) that is another valve stem seal symptom because oil gets sucked form the head into the combustion chamber under vacuum with the throttle closed. They can be replaced in the car if you have some way to keep the valves closed while working (eg compressed air into cylinders) but is much easier with head off.
    • Alright, fair enough. Expected as much. Possibly, yes. However the kit is apparently not including every single hose and it is out of stock too.
