Turbo Advice

hey guys/gals, found this turbo and was wondering if it would suit my VQ30DET at all????

whats your goal?

dont really wanna push it too hard, aiming for around 300ish hp at the wheels, with room later on, once funds permit injector upgrade, tune etc etc

300rkw? yeah that turbo will get you 300, i'm not an expert on VQs, but i hear good things about them, have you consider a twin turbo setup?

nah, 300rwhp, to begin with, but after upgrades hoping for around 500ish rwhp,

does it matter that the turbo is suited for a diesel???

i have thought about twins but im trying to keep the build cost at a minimum, twins would be good coz of the v configuration, tho im happy with a big single

yeah keep in minimum for now.. but you will wanna upgrade in like a month or two lol, i jumped from my 200rkw to 300rkw, and was bored in about 4 weeks lol...

ye with the one turbo i can use factory manifolds etc, works out heaps easier just using one, just wanna upgrade turbo to a decent unit i can push over 12 psi coz the factory turbo is ceramic etc

This turbo is made for a truck. Note the split palse turbine, I delt the internal gate is going to work either. for $1000 I think your best bet is one of HyperGear's TR43i internal gated turbo.

i been sussing out a gt40r for it, as i can get them for relatively cheap, and they look like a good turbo, would it be too big tho?????

i wouldnt mind if it didnt hit full spool till around 3-4ish k rpm

as the gt35/40 seems to be the best choice for this engine, very linear power, and very responsive, so i would think the gt40r would be similar, tho a little more laggy

should mention to pt67 will be either .84 ar t3 or .96 ar t4

gt4088r will be .94 ar

Why do you want such large turbos for only 500rwhp?

A GT35 will do 370rwkw/500rwhp.

Seems like you need to do a LOT more homework.

thats exaclty why im asking mate, i have been searching but getting mixed results with the gt4088r, my first response was it would be wayy to big...

and my next one was the precision pt67 as it is smaller, comparible to the 35r, but didnt know if it would run out of puff etc???

what would be perfect would be spool/boost characteristics for each, as when they would start and reach full etc

GT40 will be way too big...

The GT30 series on the RB30DET setup is spooling generally between 3 and 4 K...

GT40 is way bigger!

I'll assume the answer is a no.

Select the turbo that fits your power goal, it's as simple as that. There is SOOOO much information in the pages of this forum about GT30/GT35/GT40 series turbos that you couldn't possibly be in the dark
