We just sat down tonight for our committee meeting and discussed future events. We have some things in the pipeline but as I mentioned to the rest of the committee it would be a good idea to get feed back from you the members (and those looking to become one) as to what events you want from this club.

I've set up a poll above with 5 choices I think will be the "big ones" but have left an "other" category just incase I haven't covered all bases. More a fact finding exercise than anything, we want to put the feelers out to see what event will get the most turnout and where we should be focusing our time and energy on as a club

wheres the option for no car shows

I like shows, albeit in moderation... I'd do 2-3 a year I reckon, so I wouldn't wanna count them out

That said, i'd prefer cruises more than anything - and not just an ad-hoc cruise, I mean one where we get a massive turnout and stop off at many spots....

then grip days and motorkhana, even tho I've never done either, they would both be fun

-D

Edit ; female mud/jelly wrestling is my contribution for 'other', even tho it has no relevance whatsoever.

im wanting to join, just waiting on a reply from someone about a couple minor details.

but id like to do dyno days, shows, cruises and track days.

some advice id like to put in, that alot of these events need to be done on weekends to get maximum attendance, and vary the locations (south, north, etc).. just a thought. i could be wrong.

anyways, look forward to joinging and meeting more of you guys.

Strippers.

But car related events:

Grip track days

Motorkhana

Drag events (I know there is no track in SA) which leads me onto my next point:

Combined events with our SAU interstate brethren (probably the Vics because they are close enough to drive to) that could incorporate a SAU dinner, track day and cruise.

I think one dyno day a year is enough.

I think 2 car show a year is enough.

I think 2 big cruises a year is enough.

I like that idea, with of course some track/racing events mixed in.

All good points...

I personally David feel exactly how you do towards the situation (strippers included)

Cool. that said, if there is a limit on car shows, I wouldnt be adverse against co-ordinating them - I plan to do the riverland show each year for example...

There'd have to be a bit of time between them though, the extreme hp show ended up being too close to the riverland show for me to wrangle time off work

Edit - I also think Abe has a good point, 2-3 driver training events would be a very good idea, esp for the younger ones - potentially to get individual cams licences for the more track oriented people (or anyone who wants 10% off their insurance for example)

Agreed, definitely a case of terrible planning/timing

i personally think 2 dyno days a professional one like we have already had and just a sau|sage sizzle one to get base figures and check last results against new mods done

see what i did there

i think David couldn't handle to many cruises looking @ how the last one took out his engine

I like all the above.......including well organized cruises and car shows.

Here's some more to consider:

Ten Pin Bowling nights.

Go Kart Events.

Paintball Shooting Days.

Dyno Days & BBQ's.

SAU-SA Footy Match..........and all those that give me a hard time are welcome (so I can show them what a "shirt front" is):banana:

Motorkhanas are great fun. They are cheap, safe and the chance of damaging your car is very low. 4WD guys would definately want to run 2WD though, from my observation 4WD cars suffer from massive understeer and ofcourse if you do get "sideways" the way your front wheels are pointing is the way you are going haha.

Would also like to make a distinction between the rural car shows and the ones in adelaide... aka riverland and kadina, mt gambier etc vs the extreme hp show, autosalon (if its on), the show and shine @ glenelg etc...

I like the rural shows cos it gives me an excuse to get out of the city, so that'd be my primary interest

Could be an idea to have a couple combined bbq/dyno days, and some purely social events like pete just mentioned - and try to stagger everything out over the course of the year...

More than a couple cruises would be nice... one every 3 months perhaps, or 2 in summer, 1 in winter

-D

Edit - I'd also be doing a fishing charter or two thru the year, so that could possibly be considered an event - tho last time I organized we had 18 organized at first and ended up with only 4 (including myself - I would be ruthless in organising these just because of the 'attrition rate')

Attrition rate = people who say they gonna go to an event and then get really uncommunicative when people ask for status...

    • Bit of an update to this one. Having some issues on the dyno that held us back (boost spiking) and I want to pass some info over you guys and see what you think is wrong with my setup. The current readout on this dyno is 462rwkw on a low reading dyno so keep in mind it is a real world 500rwkw setup on a hub dyno. Don't read into the power figure too much as a sign of the issue. The short and curly of it is: 2.8 Litre Racepace build RB25 NEO N/A Head with VCT (internally standard however ) Borgwarner EFR 8474  Turbosmart 50mm Straight Gate + Mac valve 6Boost Manifold 4" dump to full 4" exhaust (nil restrictions) Wastegate plumbed back in and all angles in the exhaust system are acceptable and not too sharp. GFB SV52 BOV in cooler piping  Turbosmart BOV in EFR Housing   The issue we are having is it comes onto full boost for example at 4000rpm and spikes to 24/25psi, before dropping down to 17psi before slowly rising back up to the target boost of 23psi. It was extremely uncontrollable and the tuner actually had to ramp in boost progrssively with each 1000rpm on each boost setting we selected to try and reduce the amount of spiking. Sometimes we would see a drop of 10psi from the peak at the beginning of the run, to the low, until it took the next 500-1000rpm to stabilise back up to the target boost. The tuner is pretty confident that the straight gate is just a poorly designed product and leaks too much boost upon cracking the gate open and theres no way to fix it other than going to a poppet valve. He's also confient theres no ignition breakdown or floating valves. The fueling is extremely stable as well. Turbo speed is somewhere around the 109,000rpm area. The spanner in the works for me is that prior to this Borgwarner and StraightGate, the car was tuned on -5 twins at a diferent tuner, and he also had issues controlling the boost with it spiking around the same rpm range, so to me this sounds like the same issue and it can't be anything on the turbo side as this was all changed and I think the behaviour is extremely similar, if not the same. We also removed the mac valve and did a run on wastegate pressure and it still spiked and had the same behaviour. My thoughts on possibilities are: Boost Leak VCT Cam Gear isn't reliably activating consistently - (On this however, we did a run with the VCT disabled and the boost still spiked) Turbosmart BOV is not handling the boost? However this seems unlikely to not be able to handle 20psi. I have a couple of logs that I can't make sense of if anybody knows how to read them and can obtain further logs of other parameters if they are not enough, happy to pay for anyones time. The dyno readout with the power figure is the most recent last week. The other picture is from two weeks prior to that where we couldn't break 400kw (we removed the cat), however the issue of the boost control persisted. @Lithium @Piggaz @burn4005 @GTSBoy @discopotato03 I've tagged those that were quite active in recent pages here, no disrespect to those that know turbos well but I missed tagging. Cheers
    • I recently purchased a 2018 Infiniti Q60, which has an SD card navigation map. I can see my system has options for real time traffic updates etc, and am wondering if there is something I can purchase to get this working? I can see there are at least updated maps for USA and Canada, but nothing for Australia. Surely Infiniti took changing road systems and city expansions into account when they decided to use an inbuilt navigation over Android Auto/Apple Car Play, or are we doomed to drive on streets that don't exist in the navigation system if you drive to a new area?
    • Luckily I didn't put in etch primer as I just found out it's not compatible with my body filler lol. Also just need to sand the panel anywhere between 150-400 grit so I'm in the clear there. It does say to not apply to soft old paint, I assume that means paint that is flaking, peeling, etc
    • @dbm7 and @GTSBoy thank you both very much! will give that a shot!
