Hi all,

Engine is RB25DET R33 S1 (body is Silvia S14)......dynoed & got 255 bhp atrw.......Mods made to my car:(very basic ie not much)

Stock turbo

3" exhaust

3" J pipe

r34 SMIC

running boost at 0.8bar

HKS pod filter

Walbro 255l fuel pump

Aftermarket Fuel Pressure regulator

Wishing to get more bhp.....if possible 300bhp without changing the stock turbo??

My question is if I install a Blitz FMIC will it increase my bhp to maybe 280bhp? Sorry if lame question but i'm thinking that if with stock boost I wont get much increase in HP by changing to a FMIC.....but i hope with the higher boost of 0.8 then there might be a more substantial increase....

Intercoolers are more of a supporting mod than a hp mod. If you aren't heat soaking the one you have, and the side mount can flow enough (I dunno about that, but I'd guess yes) then it's not going to make any more hp just by slapping it on. You might get a SMALL gain if you had it tuned at the same time if you could indeed put more timing into it.

Bottom line, your not going to get 25rwhp from just installing a FMIC.

Thats what I was thinking also.. the flow rate....I wonder if the R34 SMIC flows enough at the current boost of 0.8 bar? I was thinking maybe I could put the FMIC on, then maybe increase the boost up to 0.9bar.....then possibly get about 280bhp++?

No idea about the 34 SMIC. Turning up the boost with out a tune will make you loose power after a point also. Lastly, your boost with the stock turbo isn't limited due to you intercooler, it's the fact your exhaust wheel will eventually explode off the shaft.

If you want 300rwhp, get all the supporting mods needed (you can research that yourself) and get a tune.

on a stinking hot day after thrashing it a bit, you will make more power with a fmic than the stock cooler. the stock cooler suffers from heat soak pretty quickly.

you won't really gain any power from a fmic, as has been said, although you can gain a very small amount simply because of the fact that while a fmic doesn't suffer heat soak as quickly as a stock cooler, it also means that it holds the cold better as well, so on a cold morning it is going to keep the chill longer. basically it is just a different way to look at it. and this is why most people feel a gain in performance when they put on a fmic. with the stock cooler and slightly higher boost, you give it the beans once and it feels good, although the next time you do it the performance will be slightly less. with a fmic you can give it the beans a few times before you start to lost that performance due to the (stock) cooler working less efficiently.

as for making 300hp on the stock turbo, it can be done, just don't expect the turbo to last very long at all.

also around 270 to 275hp is going to be about the absolute limit of what you can make before the stock ecu packs up it's bat and ball and goes crying home to mummy, although you might not even get that high.

to safely make 300hp you are going to need some sort of aftermarket management, aftermarket turbo and possibly fuel system upgrades

A R34 GTT SMIC will support just over 200 kW's

280 Bhp = 208.80 kW's (Approx)

Anything above that I would go OEM GTR FMIC as they are good for over 300 kW's (402.31 Bhp, approx)

A OEM GTR FMIC would be cheaper then a Blitz one and you would gain a similar result until you want more power.

LOL! I measure power in kW's not Bhp, so I have to do some conversions.

Installing a FMIC will allow better flow, more cooling surface, which in result you may gain a slight boost increase, but I don't see it boosting from 255 Bhp to 280 Bhp.

+ You have the stock turbo from a R33 GTS-T, I would not go anything higher then what your doing, unless you have rebuilt the stock turbo with steel internals, the ceramic internals will not last long.

Heya mate,

My engine is s2, 12psi safe tune, stock computer (but some wires are cut .. :S came like that when imported but still has speed limiter..) Has a front mount (800x 300 i think) K&N pods with pod cover and cool air intake, boost tap that doesnt spike or over boost or all that other foul electric crapola... and a full stainless kakimoto zorst and she put 202rwkw on a conservative dyno which i think is 270rwhp... so if u have those mods your not far away from ur goal of 300rwhp. I would say get a computer and get a better tune that would put it up closer as the stock computer retards timing when running higher boost then 12psi (wat i been told and what i noticed). And if ur pushin for a lil bit more maybe cam gears and a manifold??...

just a fast reply, yeah it will take abit. Just be happy with what u can get safetly, cause at the end of the day 270hp at the rears is still really quick, people underestimate horsepower these days. cause every man and his dog in his commonwhore has 280kw factory or some shit.... but they dont HAHA!

*edit* A different plenum wont increase power but it will increase response if you are chasing that ... ??
