Recommended Posts

hi to all im getting my Ps soon in a few weeks im thinking of buying a old corolla $1500 of some sought, and also just bought GTS-T

Now if i get a exemption which i will for work, i work at hunter holden and the boss wants me to road test selected vehicles and some might be commodores v8 hsv's and some astra turbos, now i will defenetly get an exemption for work.

now my question is can i also apply for my GTS-T as my 2nd backup car ( only to get to work and back), is it possible i will be exempt for my skyline or no?

Think theres a guy on here with a Black R33 GTR Series 3 on Ps. Can't remember his forum name though. Pretty sure he got exemption for similar reasons to those that you have stated. If I remember correctly, they were for him to drive it during work hours only.

You answered your own question - No.

Whilst you are on your work shift, driving a car approved by your work place, you will be exempt as per the letter and conditons.

However this does not mean you can just get into a high powered vehicle whenever you feel like it.

It will only be during your roster/contracted hours of your employment.

There is no "backup" car. The exemption only applies at your workplace

So if you get busted on a Sat night for example, expect to loose your license AND your exemption on the spot, or when it goes to court.

Don't think you can wave an exemption paper in front of the eye's of Police and get away with it, the reaction won't be pretty.

Silly gamble if you ask me.

no thats fine i get what your saying but can i drive my skyline to work even though i have a corolla thats my question will i be exmept to drive my skyline to work somedays?

If you have the corolla. No.

If the skyline was the absolute only car you could drive and was owned before a certain date in 2007. You can get an exemption to drive it depending on what you need it for.

Which is what i got.

How about you ask the respective transport authority?

Because all we can do is speculate, although given you've had a shit fighter registered to your name, if you just up and sell it i don't think that is honestly going to work.

The Gov't and law makers are not as silly as you might think. I would be of a fair assumption they would do some research into the matter.

If it was the ONLY car in your entire FAMILY. Then you would probably get an exemption to/from work.

However i doubt that is the case, so their response is probably going to be no.

If i was the person responsible for signing exemptions for high powered vehicles, you can bet your ass i would do some proper checking given the media attention to hoons and similar these days to stop the kids trying to circumvent the laws that are there for a reason.

fks sake... NO.

Why?

It honestly sounds like you are young and naieve mate, will try it, loose your license. then your job.

I can see it going down like this...

1. Contact the Transport Authority in your state and bounce these silly idea's off them and see what they say

2. Try it anyway in total disregard because you think you should be able to

3. Look for a job near public transport because you will loose your license, and your job because of it.

If your stated reason in your exemption application is to test drive cars at work, then no you will not be able to drive it outside of work hours on work business.

They will define a period of time in the exemption form during which you can drive the car.

so say i sell my corolla and is only left with my skyline, can i drive that to work i will only drive it monday to friday, only goin 2 work and returning home, i will not drive it on sundays and saturdays just to get to work and return home.?

If the cops decide to be pricks they'll see you sold a P plate legal car and retained a prohibited one (which they'll do if they issue you a fine and you try to contest it). Are you going to go to court trying to cry wolf saying its the only car you could possibly own?

The judge would probably slap you with some kind of extra punishment, on top of the standard one, for that bit of bullshit.

You've managed to grasp the point of the P plater restrictions. Bravo.

if i get the exemption for roadtesting vehicles at work, say i drive my skyline on my way to work, and cops pull me over am i aloowed to drive my skyline to work even if i got a exemption to road test vehicles?

If the cops buy your bullshit story that your work has this car as a second hand vehicle it is trying to sell, then yeah you might get away with it. Of course, if they run the plates and see that its registered as a privately owned vehicle then you're f**ked.

You'll lose your license, they'll take your exemption (and you can pretty much kiss any chance of getting it back goodbye), and then if you can't perform your job-related tasks you might even lose your job.

If you have an accident while driving your Skyline, you've got no insurance cover.

Don't be stupid.

ok i will ask do yous know of the number to ring i dnt know if i ring the rta or theres a hotline number or sumthing anyone know?

OK. Seriously. Do you need someone to wipe your arse for you too?

If you don't have the intelligence to type "RTA" into Google, and then search for a "Contact Us" link, then I'm starting to suspect you're too f**king stupid to be allowed to drive.
