After my last track day my clutch is slipping so bad I can't rev over 3k rpm without losing all power to the wheels. Which isn't great timing considering the private track day we have in a couple of weeks.

Was going to get a Exedy HD Organic kit (part NSK-7172 SC) to replace my stocko but I'm having some trouble finding a reputable installer.

So far just for the part I have been quoted from ~$800 up to $1650! Installation pricing has been likewise BS >.<

Anyway I need some advice on an installer. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated, PM if the reponse is going to violate forum rules obviously.

I dont mind travelling anywhere in Adelaide if the job is done right.

consider this...we can do a GTR clutch and flywheel replacement in under 2hrs. (1hr50mins) and i dont work on cars for my day job.

anyone who quotes more than double this in regard to labour is blatantly ripping you off or has no idea what they are doing/how to do it.

How much power are you making, or planning to make?

If it's anymore than 250kw in a GTR i'd move away from organic clutches (personal preferance)

Have you rang Adelaide Clutch Service (or what every thay have changed their name to now), they are the manufacturer of the Xtreme Brand Clutches and they are in Adelaide.

i can recommend

Kent Brake and Clutch had done 2x installs for me charged me around the $400 mark and i supplied my own clutch from Xtreme to which i possibly wouldn't buy again

Adelaide Radial Tyre look after us will charge around $350-$400 labour there is more for machining of flywheel

Boostworx will charge around the $450 mark and that includes a flywheel machined

obviously all these prices are labour only

and as Dale has said i would move away from the organic and get a 5-6 puk cushioned ceramic

Talk to Kudos Motorsport (in the traders section) He will sort out a Genuine Exedy unit for you at a great price (cheaper and better than an extreme, and not a mix and match kit like so many others out there which fail very quickly), I got mine delivered in 3 days. GTR clutch and light weight flywheel cost me just over $1000 delivered.

As for installation, if you're north try Rhemac Motors in Gawler, talk to John. Since they are a machine shop (the best in SA) they can skim your flywheel in house and possibly save you a bit of time/money. They fitted mine, plus s.p.i.g.o.t bush for under $400(don't quote me on that)

Give these guys a call http://www.directclutchservices.com.au/index.htm they're building me a clutch atm and it is built to suit my power and driving style. It was also the cheapest twin plate i could find. If you look at their web site you'll see that a fair few drag racers use them and so did last years Drift Australia winner.

2 hours you say? Hmm I was advised 5 by my usual workshop...

280awkw currently. I thought organic as its my daily and didnt want something too "grabby" in heavy traffic. I would like to occasionally dump it from high revs but is really not essential. I tractor round Mallala about once a month so it does need to handle that.

I looked at Xtreme as the other options, didnt realise it was made in Aus which I would prefer. Why wouldn't you go Xtreme again Steve?

Nice price on the twin plate exedy, would be great to race with.

There is some work to do tomorrow I think :D

i think my money could be better spent else where nothing wrong with the 2 extreme's i've had so far just might of been over priced paying for the name type thing

ive had ceramic clutch in my car for the past 4 years and wouldn't go back to organic its very easy to drive not too grabby doesnt drive atm so cant really show you we'll could chuck a battery in the ol girl and drive it 10 meters up the driveway :D

My mate Chris and myself have been doing a few clutch changes this month. Dan (Inline 6), Chad (Dstroy) is in the progress atm.

Takes us a couple of hours as we dont have a gbox stand yet so a wheelie bin and 2 15's fix that.

We do have a hoist tho with a huge amount of tools.

I've got an old extreme in my shed that has been fried, was in a 200kw car and daily driven. Didn't even do any big launches as it was crap and would slip even from new. I only tried it once and realised it was never going to happen.

My R32 has a said clutch, and quite often it sounds like mechanical armageddon when selecting 1st gear, and subsequent gearchanges when under load ie. hills driving.

Went from thrashed OEM to xtreme in my last car, NEVER AGAIN. Engagement always felt spongey, only dropped the clutch twice after that wheel spin attempts were fail, wouldn't snap shift, launches always sucked and the overall feel was terrible, ruined what used to be a good daily driver.

funny, my xtreme clutch works beautifully. hasnt slipped, has never sounded like 'mechanical armageddon', never felt spongey, never had trouble snap shifting with it. and im not exactly easy on my clutches, i have very little mechanical sympathy for them.

Hi Chad, interesting pic, idle curiosity, was wondering how long this clutch was in service, rated transmitted hp & did you get any feedback from the manufacturer on this failure? I was thinking it looks a bit like a metalurgical problem (manuf defect, either temper or selection of base plate thickness ~ I've seen a few mis-matches in other power transmission applications over the years but not an expert) or mis-matched power rating?

The clutch was installed in about 2006 when my car had a little old RB20, It's an extra heavy duty single plate, not sure on its power rating. My car now has a RB26 making 324rwkw and has seen about 5 track days. Since the power increase i have gone very easy on the clutch. I haven't spoken to the manufacturer about it as im pretty happy it lasted as long as it did.

Had a new Exergy HD clutch fitted todayby Sinergy motorsport, looks like they did a good job. Where most other workshops couldnt accomodate me at such short notice they had the part shipped and installed within 3 days, only left my car at the shop for a few hours. Price for install was the nicer side of $400 as other posts had suggested it should be.

    • YO- have been searching and searching for an a31 chassis plug pinout, or someone who knows which wire is for tach.  ceffy was flooded past dash during a hurricane.  having an electrical gremlin appear. tach is wonky reading consistent with a short, and on occasion the right side of my speedo lighting will flicker just for a second then go back to normal.  if no pinout available does anyone know if the tach harness opens or branches anywhere behind the dash? im suspecting a possible root behind the radio as there are more shorts in that area on the accessory loop.
    • Means something is not set up right, tune/calibration related.  
    • Finally replaced the previous temporary mesh indicator surrounds (temporary was the last 10+ years 😂) with a 3D printed GTR style version for the front indicators. I think it looks a lot nicer than the old setup and at least the indicators now point in the correct direction rather than angled off. Needed a little bit of tweaking to deal with the intercooler piping but got there in the end. Old and new photos below. 
    • It's weird to me that you say this because I'm pretty sure locals with relatively standard standalone tunes (boost/barometric compensated alpha-N) still have driveability issues when they pop intercooler hoses. Maybe with enough data I can just train some kind of model that spits out an expected grams/cyl given every sensor input except MAF like what FCA did with their Pentastar 3.6 ECU logic. Basically stock everything. The main motivation honestly is to have a sensor that can be a decent baseline source of truth. In scenarios you're describing obviously it won't work every time but it seems to me the number of corner cases that exist in MAF load is maybe not as severe and difficult to manage vs ITB alpha-N with some MAP/barometric compensation.
