666DAN
Just thought I'd tell you guys of a fcouple of things I've found out about my R34 over the course of owning it. The tiptronic gearbox in the non-turbo is the same unit as the turbo one has! I'm guessing due to the expense of developing two differnet items for a car that had a limited existance. I'm yet to confirm this for the non-turbo manual 5 speed, as I don't have access to one to check out. Also R34's use top-feed injectors for the whole range..from RB20, RB25 to RB26...yet another strange thing. Sumo
R34's came in RB20? I thought that motor was given up on when the r33 came out? Sumo Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/29202-strange-things-about-r34s/#findComment-599664 Share on other sites
Rezz
Thats right Sumo, an RB20DE was present in one of the R34 models... and if that doesn`t scare you, there was an RB20E (thats right a single cam!) in the lowest spec R33. DaiOni
I have an rb20e 33! That's why I call her 'the slug'. Actually not a bad engine, despite how miserable it seems on paper - I've driven far worse. Okay for a shopping trolley/daily driver for the wife/snowmobile Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/29202-strange-things-about-r34s/#findComment-599823 Share on other sites
IanH
666DAN - Our GTT's (RB25DET) use side feed Injectors, not top feed (see Here) and, at the moment, I can only find one injector upgrade (Nismo 480cc) because they're some kind of special plastic version and therefore R33 ones won't work! (unless you change the fuel rail and/or the resistor packs) PS Here's a piccy of an RB20'd R34 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/29202-strange-things-about-r34s/#findComment-599831 Share on other sites
ed
the AWD 34 GTT's only came out in RB20 form too. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/29202-strange-things-about-r34s/#findComment-599998 Share on other sites
ed
oh and they use side feed injectors as IanH mentioned Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/29202-strange-things-about-r34s/#findComment-599999 Share on other sites
Rezz
the AWD 34 GTT's only came out in RB20 form too. All 4WD R34 25GTs came out with an RB25DE actually... The only R34 Turbo 4WD is of course the GT-R. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/29202-strange-things-about-r34s/#findComment-600041 Share on other sites
dangerous_daveo
That is really really said. Heres me thinking only cefiros had RB20Es in them... Anyone have any idea why they use that engine? Demon Dave
MY old GTS was powered by an RB20E. It wasn't that bad! It wasn't good either, but it was a skyline and it was cheap. So, if I had to guess why Nissan made the Skyline range available with a RB20E I'd say to reduce the cost of the entry model to appeal to more people. The surprising thing about the skyline is tha although it's a kick-ass sports car, it's also a 4 door family sedan that Grandpa Joe likes driving around in...and granpa Joe usually doesn't care how many cams are under the bonnet... 666DAN
But Nismo only supply top-feed aftermarket injectors for the R34 series, as they are the only direct replacements for the factory rail...which is top-feed....go have a look, I've even taken my one out. YES R33 RB25's use side feed...not the R34. Check this out... IanH
so are they low or high impendence?would GTR ones fit? They're the opposite of the GTR ones but I can't remember which they are (I think it's high) the only upgrade I could find (from any maker) was the Nismo 480cc ones, but if you alter the resistor pack then you could fit GTR ones I suppose.
