my front bar has had the fibreglass work done to it which i didn't do

it's mostly painted still with full clear coat with a couple of parts of unsanded fibreglass where it's been repaired

basically there is a little bit of bogging to do then the whole thing has to be sanded for painting

i'm going to do the bogging and sanding myself

my question is, what grit sand paper should i be using to get it pretty spot on for a panel beater to paint?

Thanks

sand whole bar back with 240 dry

bog imperfections

spray light mist of cheap supercrap spray can

sand with 120grit till black is gone, if there is some black left it means its a low spot and apply some more bog and repeat ^

then go over it with 240 dry

then spray the front bar with surface primer 10% is good

mist again with black

wetsand 400 till gone, if there is still black you'll want another coat of surface primer, u can lay this shit on pretty thick

then wetsand 600 to 1000

then paint ur final colour then add another coat

if your using 2pak a clear is not nesesary, but if you add up the layers say 3 layers then you just cut/polish it back and it will come up unreal.

here are some pics of my work.

^^ now its ready for its 2nd coat.

and im a electrician, so no i don't have any painting experience. im doing my entire car, i really advise if u dont have the money or time to spend on proper equipment or setup get a pro to do it and save money.

cheers,

dave

yeah that's pretty full on

this is just a fibreglass front bar

apart from the bits that have been fibreglassed the rest of it is in perfect condition, it had some repairs and resprayed not that long ago :\

i don't think it requires me to sand back and spray and sand back etc

and i'm not painting it as it's a custom pearl colour that i don't want to f**k up

how f**ked is it? pics? chances are the fibreglass will need to be covered up with a highfill primer before paint so all id recommend doing is sanding it down with 400 gritt disc on a good orbital sander then taking it to your panel shop.

don't get to involved with paint prep to save money, most of the time people get it wrong and create more work for the painter anyway.

some spots on front bars cant be easily accessed with a sander so hand rub over them with 500 gritt.
