HEKT1K - 2 reasons to be honest, 1 is because i want to lower the car abit more, 2 because 235 tyres are alot easier to come by as i work at vw.

hamish - haha funny you say that, as i work on burwood road close to tyrepower, im good mates with mickey, sami, loc. got my wheels from there also.

and about the legality issue, well my car has a high mount setup on it now, and the wheels stick out the guards (18x10 +22) so i think ill be screwed over for other stuff anyway. (no this doesnt mean that i dont care about any law lol)

I had a 215 on a 9.5 and they didnt look super stretched.

but then i had a bridgestone 235 on a 10 and it looked like massive stretch

But hang on, you guys arent mentioning anything about PROFILES, when that is the second most important thing when stretching tyres...

Bas, the guys at T.P Hawthorn chucked on some 225/45s on my 9.5 rims fairly easily, took them a few goes but they got them on, 235s wouldnt be a drama on a 10 as long as you use 45 profile. They have the equipment down there to blow the tyre onto the bead.

I want to try a set of 215/45 on the 9.5 next time lol.

HAHA yeh i know matt, but what they tried with mine was 235/40 not 235/45, they did tell me the 45 profile would fit but not the 40

i can see the benefit for a roady maybe, but i just booked in for Traction Tyres to fit/balance a set of Kumho KU36's, 245/40/18, $1k. Fair bit less if i wanted to stretch some 235's on (much more common size) but they said for a 18 x 9 rim, with track work, no less than 245. So that's what i did

although, if i was JUST driving on the street, i probably would consider some second hand ones. But Ash is spot on though, if they've seen quite a few heat cycles, the tread could be great but the compound has just gone to shit (a bit like my $$ bridgestones are now) and makes the tyres worse than a set of Lin Longs or something
