OmegaZ33TSP
Hi I planned to buy R32 GTR, but still cannot decide between import or buy it second hand. I know the advantage and disadvantage of both method. In carpoint.com.au, I saw some decent R32 GTR can be bought on $19.000 to $21.000 in Adelaide. But the problem is, I cannot find the car with the condition that i wanted (good for everyday use and clean interior) I felt maybe import can be a good choice for me. So my question is - Is it possible to get R32 GTR to be imported into Australia? (I heard 15 years old car rules change and i don't know the new rule) - Is it true total cost of import can be cheaper than second hand? (under $20.000 for R32 GTR maybe?) - I am finding Gunmetal grey or white R32, is it difficult to find in Japan? Thanks anyway for taking your time ^^ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/292179-import-or-local-second-hand/ Share on other sites
JGTC
People usually import only if they are after a rare or limited model of car, contrary to common belief that you can save money buying from japan, you actually pay a premium for good condition vehicles in japan - you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. If you're simply after a clean standard GTR, try look locally, interstate etc, If you're after an exquisite N1 or V-spec II then i would be worth it to scout in Japan - There is a very good importer in Adelaide, Kristian who runs Iron Chef Imports, he is a member on here aswell and would be very happy to answer any of your questions. His website is: http://www.ironchefimports.com/site/ Pics don't hurt either =P Do-luck R32 Happy hunting =) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/292179-import-or-local-second-hand/#findComment-4883076 Share on other sites
carizma
Hey Omega, Just for your info, when we are importing cars there are 2 models we pay particularily close attention too, RX7's and R32Gtrs, because condition is very very important. For a R32 Gtr you could get one in as low as $13K but they will be in bad shape, but for $20 you can get one in Top condition exactly the way you want it. We also recomend you stick to late 92 - 94 models because of the intrusion bars and also cause they will be better condition but it is easy enough to get one in. Our benefit is we do both the import and the compliance if that helps. Drop me a line if you have anymore questions, Regards Paul @ Carizma HiI planned to buy R32 GTR, but still cannot decide between import or buy it second hand. Birds
Hey David, Sorry to steal the thread but just one question from me...what's the landed and complied price range on an FD RX7 these days? I.e. poor condition low price and top condition high price? Iron Chef
I'll pay ya later Danny lol I agree with Paul though - better to spend the money on a nice low-km late model R32 GT-R. Getting earlier, rough ones can be a bit of a false economy, because you often end up spending lots of cash just keeping it on the road once it's here. $18-20K will get you something nice.
