OK - I can give you my recent experience with both makes.

New to Skylines, and the forum.

12mths ago I purchased a 03 STI (with medium mods) - sold it within 3 mths!

Noisy.

Slow, if not on boost.

No torque.

Front torque steer under power.

understeer.

It was like driving a highly strung race car on the street, which needed the crap revved out of it to have any fun. - very annoying.

3 weeks ago I purchased a R32 GTR - stock standard. I love it. I have had plenty of performance cars, currently race a 4cyl Alfa in Historic Touring cars, (I am 45 yrs young), and the GTR is a serious car. It is the real deal when it comes to serious performance cars. I also considered a EVO, but same issues as above with the WRX(to buzzy/rice burner type of thing.

In the end I really wanted a super/muscle car. A make/model with race history, something original and to hang on to long term. I could have spent $40 - $60K on Aussie muscle, but in the end spent $14K!! on a true performance (race) car.

When driven at full tilt, the GTR is a more capable/satisfying/mind blowing/enjoyable experience.

Being from the old school/V8 type back ground, the best way to sum it up is that the GTR is more like a cross over between Aussie muscle with Jap hightech, - if you know what I mean......even my HSV/FPV mates rate it highly - surprise, surprise!!

If you want a "sporty" car - maybe a WRX (but go EVO)

If you want a true supercar (a legend) - go GTR

Thats it, now I'm off for a drive along the coast in my new toy, and then maybe give it a wax, and just stand back and admire. (never felt doing that with the STI)

Steve.

Good post. Welcome to the forum. :D

An alternative to a 'sporty' WRX/Evo could also be a Skyline GTST or something. Still get that smooth RB, and with a few mods they are not slow. :P

http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/lofive...hp/t452714.html is the main one i was reading.

I have a feeling i started reading at the wrong point in the thread though lol, now i don't know what car they are talking about. I tried to find specific mention of the car, but all anyone seems to be saying is GTR ETA runs a RB26/30, and then people are also talking about a WRX, and after re-reading it, not sure they are talking about the same car as there is mention of an S15 as well... Lol, too many cars with the plates GTR ETA, just goes to prove that the GTR is what they are aiming to beat :D

Im pretty sure the GTR ETA there refering to is a S15 with a 26/30 from QLD

Yeh, hence my confusion with the mention of a GTR ETA at powercruise. My bad, full apologies, WRX's suck :P Friends? :D

Now ive never even been in a GTR, let alone driven one, but i have driven my mates 12 second '97 WRX STI. I can tell you it does understeer quite badly, although i found it quite decent through the whole rev range (antilag + twin scroll conversion on a ihi vf37 helps a bit i imagine). Dog engagement gearbox is a cop on the streets though, i didn't find it much fun to drive at all.

I think it is pretty hands down for the GTR

^^^ Fail at not being able to say p i g on the forums... clearly wasn't referring to police at all, and now it sounds offensive towards the police

    • I much prefer that to an actual oil pressure issue, never would of thought it would of been a volt drop issue but SAU brains win again. Guess ill be turning down the oil pressure limit for the track and hunting some grounds. Ill hopefully update this thread with some high oil pressure and solid ecu voltage logs.
    • You've just discovered a really good reason to tell yourself, yes, I do need to buy an aftermarket ECU. Put the MAF in the bin. Slap in the new ECU and have a think about what turbo sounds you prefer.  Do you want a 90's style BOV wooosh? Do you want a hektik tsututututu?  Mate, can't go wrong. Just gotta get that ECU and the world is your oyster.
    • Hi. Iam just curisou about this topic. I saw this video. It is about Greddy Type FV2. I know that BoVs are about that sound but how and when to use it? I read some topic here and from what i have understand on stock RB with MAF there will be some "problems" if you use this BoV? It vents the air in to the atmosphere and the MAF on stock car needs this air back in to the intake and not out? Or is it wrong? If so...i saw you can put some adaptor to circule air back...but does that not "loose" that sound? I saw another BoV from Turbosmart and it has two "exhaust" like ports? One is for the stock tubing for letting air back and one is for "sound" and let the air in the atmosphere? Can someone please explain? This is the Greddy one:  And this is the Turbosmart.     THANK YOU!! EDIT: So i read about this topic some more and i if i understand that correctly: That Greddy can function either like BoV or 100% Bypass valve? And that Turbosmart is what they called hybrid so you can adjust what and how many air can be vented out or back in? Is this right? THX!
    • That dirty voltage drop is the culprit I suspect
    • i cant get them all in 1 screenshot unfortunately as i just dont know how to move things around tbh, but they are all from the same log and the line crosses at the same point for all of them
